H&R Block Booth Receives 100+

Visitors During Event

On Saturday, Oct. 18, H&R Block’s New Orleans

District took part in the 4th Annual NOLA East

Friends Fest. The community organization

Friends of Joe W. Brown Park hosted the day-long

event on Read Blvd. It featured entertainment,

food vendors as well as free health screenings

courtesy of the Daughters of Charity Health

Centers. According to our estimate, more than 100

NOLA East resident and business owners stopped

by the H&R Block booth. The image on the left

shows some of the giveaways available to booth

visitors. Very special thanks to the dedicated CSLs

who took time out of their day to spend a few

hours staffing our booth, including Veronica

Coleman-Hunter (9954 Lake Forest), LaDonna

Sims (Clearview Mall) and Gwen Mullen (111 E.

Judge Perez, Chalmette).

Emerald Advance Updates

For the EA season, offices should use

current TS14 inventory first before

switching to the new card design.

Select EA clients will receive their new

cards in the mail in early November.

Select non-EA tax clients will receive their

cards in the mail in January.

Encourage your clients to bring their new

cards when they come in to the office their

year—and then use throughout TS15.

Associates who have an Emerald Card will

also have new cards mailed to their

addresses on file by the end of the year.

When you get your new card, just follow

the instructions to activate it.

part in the Introduction to Marketing training

sessions on last week. From understanding the

Drumbeat, to Good Neighboring on a regular-

basis—H&R Block makes it easy for tax pros to

take marketing into their own hands.

I hope all of the CSLs are contemplating ways to

BLOCK PARTY – SATURDAY, NOV. 22

NOVEMBER 17, 2014 VOLUME 1, ISSUE 3

Calling All Tax Pros & Associates

We are only days away from the New Orleans

District’s first Block Party.

Here’s the details:

Saturday, November 22

Noon – 5:00 p.m.

303 W. Esplanade Ave., Kenner

Why W. Esplanade? Well, not only is this an

EA location but it is also an LDO. We are

hoping for as many available tax pros to assist

with this community event. Several

neighboring businesses have agreed to

participate in our Block Party.

The flyer created for this event invites anyone

and everyone who has a tax related question to

stop by our Block Party and speak with a tax

professional. It also states, “We have expertise,

support and flexibility to assist with tax

preparation, personal finances, health care

reform and more.”

Obviously a huge focus of this Block Party is

Emerald Advance which begins on the following

Monday, November, 24. Here’s some fun news,

a local inflatable bounce house company will be

on site with one of their best bounce houses for

the kids to have fun. We also plan to have hot

chocolate, games, prizes and of course valuable

information.

If you have ideas or are interested in helping with

the Block Party, please contact me.

INAUGURAL FAT CITY FESTIVAL

NOVEMBER 17, 2014

VOLUME 1, ISSUE 3

Metairie Neighborhood Event

Saturday, Nov. 15 marked the first Fat City

Festival. If you’re not sure, Fat City is considered

the area in Metairie where the H&R Block at 3501

Severn Ave., Suite 14A is located. Taking full

advantage of our district’s membership in the

Jefferson Chamber of Commerce, we participated in

the five-hour event along with several other area

businesses.

The main objectives of participating in the event

were to increase awareness of Emerald Advance.

Festival-goers were thrilled to spend time at the

H&R Block booth and kids of all ages enjoyed

spinning the prize wheel. Some even took advantage

of entering our raffle of $50 off new client tax

preparation.

Friends of Joe W. Brown Memorial

Park (Continued from pg. 1)

In addition to an upcoming tax talk to organization

members, Friends of Joe W. Brown Memorial Park

has expressed great interest in becoming a nonprofit

referral partner. This move will help the New

Orleans District with our goal of acquiring 50

Incremental New Clients. During TS15.

Organization leaders have invited us to participate

with their holiday celebration event “A Winter

Wonderland East of the North Pole.” This event

takes place, Sat., Dec. 13 and includes a toy

giveaway, pictures with Santa Clause, ginger bread

house workshop as well as entertainment. Stay

tuned, more info to come!

Be sure yard signs are displaying EA

messaging in addition to “Now Open”

signage. If you have to place the signs in the

morning, then remove before closing—do so.

Ahead of the Block Party on Nov. 24th, we

placed 4 double-sided yard signs that

highlight “You could get up to $1,000” and

removed them when the office closed.

New Orleans District Numbers

As of Nov. 24, our district is at 8.45% new

client revenue growth. In order to reach our

EA goal of 20% increase over last year we must

get 505 new clients by Dec. 15th.

We’ve Reached The Peak

We are currently in the peak season for EA.

Now until Dec. 13, let’s work hard to spread

the word and get NEW CLIENTS into our

offices. Based on results from prior years,

this is the week H&R Block sees the most

EA applications. Let’s capitalize!

Our Tchoupitoulas location has multiple yard signs

at the entrances & exits of the shopping center.

Very special thanks to all who helped with Saturday’s event at 303 W. Esplanade. The Block

Party was successful in regard to increasing visibility and partnering with local businesses. On

the other hand, the chilly weather and forecast for rain may have kept some potential clients

from stopping by.

Who’s Your Office Marketing Ambassador?

Each office in our district should have a designated Office Marketing Ambassador (OMA) who

can help assist the office with local marketing initiatives and execution. This person can be

ANYONE in the office, but must be someone who is willing, able and eager to help grow new

clients for the office. While the CSL is responsible to communicating and executing local

marketing initiatives for the office, the OMA is one who can assist and ensure the entire office is

in the know doer all things marketing. Please let me know your OMA by Dec. 15

Partnering With Nonprofit

Organizations

I truly believe nonprofit partnerships can

play a huge role in the New Orleans District

growing new clients. If you are a member of

any nonprofit organization, which

oftentimes includes religious, educational

and charitable organizations—please work

with me to register the group for this

referral program.

Once these partnerships are in place, it will

allow us to have more of a role in

helping/volunteering with the

organization—in which many CSLs are

already taking part in. This is a way for you

to help your preferred nonprofit raise

money.

This Week’s Drumbeat

Plan a tabling event near your H&R Block

office and look for new clients. Visit a big

retailer and ask if you could leave some EA

information for their employees. Put gift

baskets full of candy canes in break room of

Bog Box Retailers. Fill baskets full of EA

marketing collateral. Include some water

bottles. Remember always get approval from

the manager of these locations prior to

placing any material.

Countdown to TS15

Only 30 days remain until TS15 is here.

Amid all of your training as you prepare

for the tax season, keep in mind some of

the marketing tactics and events you’d

like to carry out. If you share some of

these ideas with me now, we can begin

putting the plans in place to ensure a

successful marketing strategy for each

office in the district.

Black Friday & Bayou Classic Marketing

During the rush of Black Friday shopping last week, H&R Block was invited to a promotional

event already taking place at T-Mobile in Metairie. We were able to share information on

Emerald Advance to customers looking to spend money on Black Friday deals.

The main event surrounding the 41st Annual Bayou Classic in New Orleans is the football game

between longtime in-state rivals Grambling State University and Southern University. Ahead of

the gridiron battle, myself and the Baton Rouge Marketing Coordinator handed EA wrapped

water bottles to individuals at the Pre-game Fan Fest.

Office Marketing Ambassador Selections

Have you selected your OMA yet? If so, let me know! If not, please do so and let me know who

will lead your office’s marketing initiatives throughout TS15. New CSL’s are more than welcome

to serve as OMA as well as Prior CSL. But if you know someone in your office who enjoys Good

Neighboring, distributing flyers and telling strangers how H&R Block can help them—please

appoint them as your OMA by Dec. 8, 2014.

Every office has a goal of 50 New Clients per

office during TS15. Keep in mind this is

incremental new clients. Meaning, if you had

100 new clients last year, you need 50 more, so

a total of 150 new clients to win this year!

Cricket Wireless Partnership

We have partnered with Cricket Wireless and

Optimal Wireless to carryout marketing events

throughout TS15. On ACA Day, we hosted a

pop-up event at 1037 N. Broad St. Cricket is

currently offering a deal exclusive to H&R

Block clients. It includes a waived activation

fee and a free set of headphones ($60 value).

Pat yourself on the back for excelling when it comes to

office visibility. Many offices used signage, yard signs,

and balloons to ensure everyone passing by knows

“It’s Tax Season!”

It was freezing! But cold weather didn’t stop us from

hailing traffic toward H&R Block.

Executing The Drumbeat

This week’s Drumbeat focuses on several types of

businesses we can target with flyers, new client

coupons, as well as other partnership opportunities. A

great approach to carrying out the Drumbeat is to

partner with a local trade school to do a Tax Talk on

education credits, planning for 1099, occupational

write-offs, etc.

National Employer Solutions (NES)

All CSLs have received the list of NES participating

businesses. It includes the employers offering

discounted tax preparation to their employees through

H&R Block. I also took the initiative to compile a local

list of the businesses in the New Orleans District.

You are encouraged to use the list to:

Identify participants near your office

Contact employers about New Client Coupon

The coupons can be saved to your computer and

emailed to the employer OR you can bring them in

person along with “It’s Refund Season” flyers and

“Affordable Care Act” flyers, all included in the

Marketing Kit sent to each office.

IMPORTANT:

Don’t distribute coupons or other printed

material without permission.

Don’t be surprised if they are not aware of the

program.

New Client Growth

Based on the chart above, our district

is down 32.98% in New Client

Growth.

GOAL: 50 New Clients

Reminder that corporate has set a

goal to get 50 incremental new

clients per office, meaning 50 more

than last year for each office.

SUPER BOWL & VISIBILITY

JANUARY 26, 2015 VOLUME 1, ISSUE 11

Marketing to Super Bowl Fans

This Sunday, Feb. 1, 2015, millions of

consumers will tune in to the Super Bowl.

Here’s our chance to tap into a huge market

of local football fans. Show your office team

spirit leading up to game day by hitting

your local pizza spots with box toppers. It’s

up to you to be creative on how you

celebrate success and out National “Get

Your Billions Back America” (GYBBA)

campaign! Read on for more ideas:

1. Pump up the office, create a team,

partner w/ pizza places, sports bars

and sporting good stores to leave

GYBBA flyers (all included in your

Marketing Kit and there are more on

FAMS). Set up a table to talk to

potential new clients, or host a raffle

to collect leads.

2. Throw a Super Bowl (tailgate) Block

Party in front of your office on the

Saturday before. If you are near a

grocery store they will be very busy

as people stock up for weekend

parties.

3. Connect with local sports bars and get

pens and table toppers of our National

Campaign on the tables and

information on their take-out bags or

containers.

Office Visibility Excellence

Check out the pictures above from the

NEW LOCATIONS OFFICIALLY OPEN

JANUARY 26, 2015 VOLUME 1, ISSUE 11

Grand Openings/ Ribbon Cutting

On Friday, Jan. 23 we held ribbon cuttings

and grand opening celebrations at 6600

Franklin Ave. and 4704 Veterans Blvd.

These events really let out neighbors and

local businesses know of our presence. Thank

you to all who helped to make these grand

openings festive and fun. Now that we’ve

shown our presence, let’s keep the momentum

going throughout TS15 and work toward

meeting all the goals set before us.

Who Says You Need An MC To

Have A Successful Event

I am amazed at the independence shown by

CSL Jackie Dillard and her initiative to

partner with Metro PCS to hold a tabling

event on Saturday outside the Williams Blvd.

office. Check out the photos below! In

addition to this event, Jackie delivered NES

coupons to Wendy’s, Family Dollar, Office

Depot, McDonalds, FedEx, and Dollar

General. She’s even getting her TPs on board

with marketing initiatives and already

planning a Super Bowl event. Keep up the

phenomenal marketing!

CSL Germain Wharton and TPs Avis James & Gwen Terrel and

DGM James Beason are all smiles as we officially open the doors

at 6600 Franklin Ave.

NEW CLIENT GROWTH -25.66%

NOLA Can Beat This Goal

The chart to the left shows where each

office stands as it relates to New Client

Growth. Our goal is to get at least 50

new clients above last year. Don’t stress

about these numbers, but do keep them

in mind. YOU CAN DO THIS NOLA!

Metairie Church Tax Talk

Cold & wet weather led to low turnout,

nonetheless, the church wants to

schedule another & we collected 4 leads.

Chalmette MLK Day March

Thanks to CSL Gwen Mullen for

securing a table inside the Sigur Civic

Center in Chalmette where hundreds

gathered after the MLK Day March.

This was a great opportunity to

interact with community and we

collected 16 leads.

The above photo (left) shows great visibility at Chalmette office which was along
