The new Orkney collection for Morris & Co. by Freespirit curates designs inspired by the incredible talents of May Morris, daughter of William and one of the most influential figures in English embroidery. May’s beautiful designs and distinctive style has been carefully captured and redrawn by the Morris & Co. studio to create a stunning new collection which reflects the history of this iconic heritage brand, introducing their stories and legacy to the next generation.

New to the Orkney collection is the design Melsetter, which features intricate and beautifully printed birds and flowerheads trailing a central fruit tree. This design was inspired by the bed hangings at Kelmscott Manor, recrafted for Melsetter House in Scotland.

The moody, wild, seasonally changing landscape of the Orkney isles, isolated from mainland Scotland by the bracing North Sea, was harnessed by the Morris & Co. studio as inspiration for the colour palette and title of this collection.
