SPEAKERS

Ian Ballon is a litigator who co-chairs Greenberg Traurig’s Global Intellectual Property & Technology Practice Group. He represents clients in copyright, Digital Millennium Copyright Act, trademark, trade secret, right of publicity, privacy, security, software, database, and Internet- and mobile-related disputes.

Mary Beth Borgwing is the President of Standish Cyber Corp and founder of the Cyber Social Club. She serves on advisory boards for HyTrust Corporation, Robodub Corporation, ClearForce Corporation, and Bluewater International, and is the Co-Founder of the Uniting Women in Cyber Conference 2018.

Bryon Z. Bratcher serves as Managing Director of Gravity Stack, a data-driven legal solutions company, and is an expert in legal technology. Mr. Bratcher is responsible for infusing technological innovation and process efficiency into the delivery of legal solutions to corporate legal and law firm clients.

Susan Mason has over 25 years of operating, management, and venture capital experience. She is the co-founding partner of Aligned Partners, an early-stage venture capital firm. Ms. Mason specializes in investing in the information technology area, specifically communications, security, and financial technology.

Casey McTigue is a Senior Director at SRS Acquiom, managing post-closing claims, disputes, merger amendments, and milestones/earnouts with a focus on the life sciences sector. While at SRS Acquiom, Mr. McTigue has represented shareholders’ interests on hundreds of deals, including defending claims for as much as $400 million and administering life sciences deals with as much as $1 billion in contingent consideration.

Christine Morgan (“Chris”) is an intellectual property litigator in Reed Smith’s San Francisco office. She has substantial patent trial experience and expertise with Section 101 patent invalidity motions. Ms. Morgan also co-chairs the Women’s Initiative in Reed Smith’s San Francisco office, seeking to raise the profile of her female colleagues and foster their career growth and advancement.

Jonathan Nimer is Senior Corporate Counsel at VMware. He has practiced in the technology industry in the Bay Area for more than 30 years, principally focused on complex licensing transactions, strategic alliances, standards governance, and antitrust counseling. His current role at VMware includes providing legal support for the recently launched IoT Solutions division.

James Pampinella is a Managing Director in the Disputes and Investigations practice at Navigant and is a national expert on complex commercial litigation matters, specializing in intellectual property strategic consulting and disputes. Mr. Pampinella has testified as an expert on damages issues in deposition, trial (Federal and State court), and arbitrations, and has presented at mediations.

Gabriel M. Ramsey is a partner at Crowell & Moring. He has substantial experience with proactive solutions for protection of intellectual property and deterrence of adversaries in the digital domain. He has expertise carrying out complex investigations and enforcement actions involving trade secret misappropriation, fraud and deceptive activity, cybercrime, and brand violations.

Roland Vogl is a scholar, lawyer, and entrepreneur who, after more than fifteen years of academic and professional experience, has developed a strong expertise in legal informatics, intellectual property law, and innovation. Currently, he is Executive Director of the Stanford Program in Law, Science and Technology (LST) and a Lecturer in Law at Stanford Law School.

Judge James Ware (Retired) joined JAMS after spending sixteen years as a civil litigator, and twenty-four years as a judge. He served as a United States District Judge on the Northern District of California, including a year and a half as the Chief Judge of the Northern District. Judge Ware presided over numerous cases involving patent infringement, securities fraud, antitrust, contract disputes, employment law, and various statutory actions.

The Honorable James Donato is a United States District Judge for the Northern District of California, with chambers in the San Francisco courthouse. He is a member of the Northern District’s Local Rules Committee, Patent Local

Rules Committee, and Patent Pilot Program. He is also the Liaison Judge for the district’s Standing Committee on Professional Conduct. Judge Donato was nominated by President Barack Obama and confirmed by the United States Senate in 2014. He holds a B.A. in history from the University of California, Berkeley, an A.M. in history from Harvard University, and a J.D. from Stanford Law School. He clerked for the Hon. Procter R. Hug, Jr., United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Judge Donato was in private practice for over 20 years before taking the bench.

The Honorable Magistrate Judge Nathanael CousinsNorthern District of California, San Jose

The Honorable Magistrate Judge Nathanael Cousins has his chambers in San Jose, but he has served in each courthouse in the Northern District of California, from

Salinas to Eureka. He joined the Court in 2011 from the US Department of Justice, where he worked as an Assistant US Attorney (San Jose and San Francisco offices) and Antitrust Division Trial Attorney (San Francisco). In those positions, he had criminal jury trials before many of the Judges of this Court. He was part of the team that prosecuted global price-fixing cartels in memory chip markets. He also coordinated Operation Ceasefire, a community program to reduce gang violence in Monterey County.
