Charming and traditional, Marden is a typical Kentish village in the heart of the Garden
of England, surrounded by the country’s signature orchards and hop farms. This is the
perfect opportunity to become part of a friendly community with good local amenities,
including a post office, hairdressers, medical centre and dental surgery, as well as thriving
sports and social clubs. For nature lovers, Marden Meadow is a wonderful unspoilt rural
landscape, just perfect for a relaxing ramble or summer picnic.
Welcome to Marden
Go shoppingMarden caters for your day-to-day shopping needs, with a farm shop, pharmacy,
butcher, bakery and convenience store, as well as a Waitrose supermarket in nearby
Paddock Wood. For more choice, just pop into town. The closest is the County Town
of Maidstone, which has the Fremlin Walk and The Mall shopping centres plus the
Royal Star Arcade for specialist clothing and gifts, as well as a weekly market with a
huge variety of stalls. Alternatively, head west to Tonbridge or Tunbridge Wells. The
former has a good range of big-name stores and independents, while its more historic
neighbour has the elegant Pantiles shopping area and a modern mall with a three-floor
Fenwick’s department store.
Be sociableWhether it’s dining out, a night at the cinema or live music, you won’t have to travel
far to have a great night out. Stroll down to one of the ‘locals’: the Unicorn pub (which
also has a coffee shop and bistro) or the Grade II listed West End Tavern. Or why not
take a trip out to a ‘destination’ inn for a meal with glorious views – just perfect on a
balmy summer evening? For more lively nightlife, including pubs, clubs, restaurants
and entertainment venues, Maidstone is the go-to place. The Hazlitt Theatre presents
everything from touring West End hits to tribute bands, while the Lockmeadow Centre
has an eight-screen Odeon cinema and a bowling alley.
Opportunities for learningKent is known for its high standards of education
and there’s a wide choice of good schools
within easy reach of Marden. The village has
its own primary school, just a short walk from
Appledown Grange, and there are two others
in nearby Collier Street and Staplehurst. The
closest secondary schools are New Line Learning
Academy in Maidstone and The High Weald
Academy in Cranbrook, both within easy driving
distance, and Maidstone has four highly-
respected boys’ and girls’ grammar schools. For
higher education, MidKent College offers a wide
range of academic and vocational courses.
Get activeYou’ll be well placed to enjoy your favourite sport or pastime, whether it’s a session at the
gym, a few lengths in the pool or a game of tennis. The Putlands Sports and Leisure Centre
in Paddock Wood is well equipped for a range of activities, and Tonbridge has outdoor
and indoor swimming facilities. Maidstone has several sports and fitness venues, including
a well-equipped leisure centre and the award-winning Mote Park for cycling, watersports
and more. You can also play a round at top-class scenic golf courses or explore the
country trails on foot, bike or horseback.
