BROADBAND FORUM MEMBERSHIP AND OPERATIONSThe Broadband Forum has been at the forefront of many of the improvements happening in the broadband industry. Despite the challenging economic climate, our membership was again stable in 2012. We were pleased to add new service providers, including our first cable companies, as well as new fiber and wireless focused members who were attracted to some of our new initiatives.
The graphs below show the diverse regional and industry segment breakdown.
In 2012, we met twice in Europe, once in Asia and once in N. America.
As it is every year our focus in 2012 for Forum operations was to ensure continued member satisfaction, and that services were delivered efficiently and cost effectively. 2012 has seen continued success with key objectives met and best practices maintained.

The website experienced a facelift in 2012, and a new library of videos was put out on Vimeo and added to the public Broadband Forum site, drawing more visitors. The site received approximately 66 thousand visitors per month and each visitor accessed 12 pages per visit on average. The Broadband Forum’s Linked In group, set up for members and alumni, also grew and has now passed 1000 group members. The private ARO members’ contribution and communication engine was also updated to provide easier visibility to work in progress and the internal roadmap of all work of the Forum. It continues to be enhanced with new online member tools and increased support for volunteer editors.

Special Sessions
• Outside of working group sessions, the Forum typically has these programs- • Service Provider Action Council-
Monday sessions for Providers, which strengthens the Provider voice info the Forum and drives key issues regarding meeting the needs of the mass market
• Keynotes Industry leaders are invited to speak and provide the Forum with their vision for broadband and their priorities to help drive our work
• BoF (Birds of a Feather)- Evening technical interactive sessions, open to all and typically on potential work areas. Goal is to stimulate a forward plan addressing what the Forum’s scope is in this area and whether new work should begin
• Best Practices Sessions- A panel that explores today’s best practices around a certain topic. Mostly educational, but can be a source of new work
Current Releases The Broadband Forum packages our technical reports into distinct BroadbandSuite Releases that provide a roadmap of broadband solutions. Each new release builds on the platform of the former releases. Ultimately, the release program offers the industry a toolkit for broadband achievement.
l BroadbandSuite 1.0 :basic internet access over ADSL l BroadbandSuite 2.0 : including ADSL2/2plus specifications and addressing the remote management requirements of the networked home l BroadbandSuite 3.0 : brings fiber and bonded options into the mix, and provides specifications that ensure quality IPTV deployment and management
– BroadbandSuite 3.1 adds VDSL2 specifications – BroadbandSuite 3.2 specifies the next generation home networking and management platform
l BroadbandSuite 4.0: IPv6 Toolkit – BroadbandSuite 4.1 offers tools and techniques for enhancing service delivery and support of the
Connected Home l BroadbandSuite 5.0 provides the architecture, management and testing tools needed to ensure interoperability in PON deployments l BroadbandSuite 6.0 offers a package of 4G/LTE Ready Mobile Backhaul specifications and resources
