Scholarship Policy

OVERVIEW

"tr'lee ilhamcellor of SIU Dr. S. B. Mujumdar believes that education is the only way of bringinga[:r:ut intennational peace and understanding. Set up in 1971, Symbiosis was created to offer afucrme ntw*y ft^orn horne for foreign students.

$ymbiosis is keen to offer scholarships* to foreign students to give them the opportunity to takeadvantage of ttre educational programs available at Symbiosis. The scholarships are offeredprefenably in conjunction with the education ministries / embassies of participating countries.Close cooperation with these foreign governments will assist in ensuring the scholarships areawarded to the most deserving candidates.

Th* Syembiosis nnternational Scholarships are funded by the Symbiosis Society Foundation andoflfered tCI deserving and meritorious foreign students from various African, Asian and MiddleEastel"n countries. All scholarships are administered by the Symbiosis Centre for InternationalEducation ISCIE) Office in conjunction with the office of the Symbiosis Society Foundation. TheScholnt"ship Comrnittee shall endeavour to maintain gender balance and include students fromcliverse backgrcunds while selecting candidates.

sThese scholarships cover only academic fees. Students must bear all additional costs includingapplication fee, IHLA exam fee, administrative fee,travel, housing, food, etc.

SETECTION CRITERIA AND PROCESS

Wha is eligible to apply for Scholarship?

Intel'natioreal Scholarships are only for 'Foreign Nationals' of participating countries. (Person ofnndiar"r ih'igin {PIOI and Overseas Citizen of India [OCI) card holders are not eligible to apply for[his sch*larship"].

final exams and awaiting final results should submit predicted results fin case ofU mdergraduate programsJ.

s Flave obtained more than 6A0/o as a qualifying grade in Graduation {in case ofPostgnaduate programs).

& I{ave appeared for an English Proficiency Test conducted by British Council 0ELTS)with a minimum score of 6 or the IELA Test with a minimum band of 3.

program for which he/she is applying including English language requirement.

sPlease note Applications without the recommendation of the Ministry of HigherEducation of the Country/ The Embassy/High Commission of the Country in India willnot be entertained under any circumstances.

TEF{M5 AND CONDITIONS

@ The Selection Committee will select the candidate for scholarship on the basis ofacad*rnic achievements, statement of purpose and references submitted. The decision ofthe Seiection Committee will be final. Reasons for not being awarded the scholarshipwill nelt be given"

6 Scholarship holder shall bear application and administrative charges and it is

mandatory for the student to make all transactions in USD.

# The student shall not be allowed to change the program or the Institute for whichhe/she is given scholarship even if the duration and the tuition fee is the same.

@ Schoiarship holder is nesponsihle for securing an appropriate Student Visa to SIU and forany f'€e associated with the visa, including medical examination [visa purposeJ, The offerof a scholarship does not guarantee that a student visa will be granted.

@ The scholarship holder has to bear all other expenses, such as application fee, IELA examfee, administrative fee, uniform charges, books, examination fee, medical insurance,security deposit fif any).

& Recipients must satisff basic criteria of good behaviour, 75o/o attendance in each

selnester and at least 600/o aggregate marks at the end of each semester with nobacklogs in any subject fMust pass all courses in all semesters). Students may not have aTenn'ls l{ot Gnanted [TNG) in any semester. Directors of the institute they belong to mustprovide a good behaviour / character certificate at the end of each year so as to facilitatethe continuance of the scholarship. Scholarship recipients may be asked to participate inmedia activities for the promotion of these scholarships, SCIE and SIU.

s Students shall finish their program within a stipulated duration. Delay in completion ofprfigraln will not be covered under the scholarship. In case of delay in completion, theschonarship holder shall be responsible for paying additional charges.

@ SCIfr reserves the right to cancel the awarded scholarship with immediate effect if anydocument lacks authenticity. Student is required to show original transcripts anddncuments submitted with scholarship application.

& The scholarship duration will not be extended if the scholar is detained /debarred fromappeanimg'in the examination due to shortage of attendance. Suspension from the[Jnivensity will result in inrmediate withdrawal of the scholarship.

* Students on scholarship are permitted to go to their home country only during vacationsrruithout any financial liabilities on SIU and must ensure compliance with all attendancecniteria.

Symhiosis International University reserves the right to withdraw the scholarship, iftFlere is an adequate proven evidence of serious allegations of illegal activities against

the sclaoiarship holder. In such cases, SIU will not have any role to play when the FRRO

irevestigates the case.

In case a scholarship holder violates the code of conduct of Symbiosis International{Jniver"sity, his/her scholarship would be cancelled immediately.

$fl Ffl SLARSF{IP MOI{ITORXN G. PAYMENT AND CESSATION

1. Schc[arship Monitoring will be undertaken by SCIE and SSF to ensure that scholarshiprecipients are abiding by the terms and conditions of their scholarship.

This rnonitoring will include but is not limited to:@ Academic performance.s F{.e-assessment of personal circumstances, if required.s Any feedback or new information received from the concerned embassies /ministries.

Z. Scholanship Payrnent will not be made to the recipient directly in the form of money or anyother financial benefits. Payments will be made by the Symbiosis Society Foundationetrirectly to the institute where the recipients are enrolled. This payment will be madec*ntinuoursly for each year of the duration of the program as long as the recipient is abidingt* the terrns/conditions.

3. SctaoRarship Cessation: In case a student violates any terhs / conditions of the undertaking,the scholarstrip will immediately cease. Amounts already disbursed in that year will be liableto be paid back to the Foundation. In case a student leaves the program halfisay through theacademic year, the scholarship will cease immediately and the amount already disbursed fortkrat year will be liable to be paid back to the Foundation. In case a student leaves theprCIgl:am at the end of an academic year, without completing it fully the scholarship willcga$e"

Wtnene thene is any doubt as to the interpretation or administration of the policies andpn*cedunes contained within this document, the Principal Director, Syrnbiosis and theffixecwtive ffiinector, SCIE will be responsible for making decisions.
