Those lies became the justification that kept me trapped. I lost custody of my children, and my heart was broken. The tears flooded my pillow as I realized that my own choices had torn my family apart. Nothing mattered to me anymore. As much as I wanted to change, I didn’t have the power to do it. The day I left for rehab, I was drunk. I fell & broke my ankle, leaving my leg with metal plates, screws, & constant pain. Back on pain pills, the cycle began again. On August 4, 2016, I overdosed. Paramedics didn’t know if I was going to make it. My poor mom sat by my bed wondering if I would recognize rock bottom before this addiction killed me. I spent 13 days in ICU, & then came to The Mercy House. Now I’m finding my identity in Christ. Today I spent the day with my daughter & mom shopping and doing typical mother/daughter things that for so long I took for granted. In the movie, “Victor,” there is a scene of my dad detoxing from heroin. It shows doctors administering Methadone, a pain killer which had just been introduced in the states to ease withdrawal symptoms. Over the years, other treatments for addiction have become available, including narcotics. The problem is drugs of addiction are being treated with drugs that also create dependency. Where is the freedom? Now some states in the US are opening “Safe Injection Sites.” These government-funded facilities, called “shooting galleries,” provide the paraphernalia & let addicts bring their heroin, cook it & shoot it up on-site. This approach is an effort to save lives by providing clean needles & paramedics in case of overdose. I appreciate the desire to prevent overdose deaths. I do. But a safer prisoner is still a prisoner. There’s a better way…a COMPLETE Answer...and that is what we offer at NLFY.

One thing we’ve learned in more than 45 years experience is this: To avoid dying is not the same as living abundantly. Anything less than God’s best is just not good enough. That is why, at our men’s and women’s homes, we offer what Christ offers: FULL freedom. No settling. Nothing less than 100% of what God meant by the cross... for everyone who wants it. Freedom is not found in a syringe, but a Savior. Cary & her children; Anthony, Avery & their new wives & countless more have this freedom because of your commitment to do your part. In His Service,

“Before I came to NLFY, I used whatever drugs

I could get my hands on. I tried to get help

before, but never found deliverance until I gave

all of my burdens to God. I am so blessed & now I live to bless others. Now

I am whole & my family is restored!”
