Welcome

Welcome to our 2015 ‘What’s On’ Programme. 2014 was a fantastic year for us with a jam-packed programme of events and exhibitions that included our fun-filled Big Picnic, a diverse series of talks and of course our wonderful ‘Celebration of Textiles’. The main focus of this was the Great Tapestry of Scotland, which drew over 13,000 visitors to New Lanark!

We are carrying on the tapestry theme this year with an exhibition of the Prestonpans Tapestry. This tells the story of Bonnie Prince Charlie’s journey from France to victory at Prestonpans in 1745. It also acted as the inspiration for the Great Tapestry.

The ‘Homecoming’ and ‘New Lanark on Paper’ exhibitions will give fascinating insights into the history of New Lanark, plus keep your eyes peeled for our special winter exhibition – it’s going to be great! Following the success of our 2014 Big Picnic, we’re having a whole summer of fun, including ‘Live at New Lanark’, an evening of live local bands, some Shakespeare in the Garden and an even bigger Big Picnic!

Stargazing, our Easter Egg-stravaganza, Doors Open Days and Christmas Experience will all be returning, along with fantastic programmes from our partners, Scottish Wildlife Trust and Music in Lanark. We also have holiday crafts and tours, more superb talks and exhibitions from local groups.

With something for everyone, there’s no excuse not to get your skates on and join us at New Lanark!

We aim to preserve New Lanark as a living community with a resident population and new opportunities for employment, as well as encouraging visitors to explore the history of the village and discover the ideals that made it famous.

At New Lanark, whether you explore our fascinating Visitor Centre, enjoy one of our 3 on-site eateries or purchase from our fantastic range of textiles, gifts and crafts, you will be contributing to the upkeep of this amazing site.
