Welcome back for Term 2. I hope that you had the chance to take a break. The students came back yesterday bouncing with energy and made a solid start to the term. We have had several new enrolments this term and our school continues to grow despite very strict enrolment processes. We have now reached 312 students after being at 255 enrolments in 2016. I would like to welcome all of our new students who have started this term. Construction There are several works that will take place in the school during the coming weeks: Mrs Miller’s room is receiving a new roof. Our walkways will have poles replaced near the office. New fences and gates will be installed near Mrs White’s room. Yarning Circle at the corner of Ridge and Lee Streets. During this time the safety of your children is paramount and we will be checking very carefully to ensure the school is a safe place to be. You can help us by reporting any safety concerns or potential hazards to the office ASAP. Reading Program – Home Reading Last term we had a huge celebration in our last assembly where lots of our students received their reading badges for consistent home reading. There will be many students who will start to receive these during Term 2 at our weekly assemblies. Some students will also be receiving a book at the end of this term if they continue to complete their home reading every week.

SPORTING NEWS

State Swimming Last term 3 amazing students travelled to Homebush to compete in the NSW PSSA State Swimming Championships at Sydney Olympic Park. Miaa Luke swam in the 13 years 50m Freestyle event and was placed 16th in the state. She made a huge effort and left the pool exhausted but with a massive smile on her face knowing she had given her best. A huge achievement, well done Miaa! Ashley Mitcham competed in the 8 years 50m and placed 21st which is a mar-vellous achievement for a Year 2 student who has only just come out of year 1 a term ago. She was also selected to swim in the North Coast All Age Relay team which takes an 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 year old student and they compete against all other regions in a 5x10m freestyle relay. She demonstrated great team spirit and made some new friendships. Well done Ashley against all those older swimmers! Lexie Brown had a busy time in the pool and like Ashley is in Year 2. Lexie came 5th in the 50m Freestyle. She then took on 11 and 12 year old girls in the all age 100m Multiclass Freestyle event and came 12th in the state. She was thrilled with her performance and then jumped into the pool and wowed everyone with a 3rd in the 50m backstroke event walking away with the highly sought after bronze medal. An amazing achievement, well done Lexie!
