Automotive General Automotive Services Technician Prerequisite-Must meet pre-admission assessment requirements. In this 120 hour course students will obtain the skills needed for entry level positions in the Automotive Services

Commercial Driver’s License- 300 hour Prerequisite-Must meet pre-admission assessment requirements. Must be 21 years of age for class A or 18 years of age for class B, have a valid driver’s license, and must have passed the DOT physical exam prior to the first day of class. All students will attend the first week of class even if they already have a permit. Those without a permit will take their permit test, at the DMV, at the end of week 1. Office Support SpecialistPrerequisite-Must meet pre-admission assessment requirements. Whether you are looking for employment in a business office set-ting or medical office setting, this 300-hour Office Support Specialist training is for you. This program consists of 100 hours of core office skills; for example, students will review English, Mathematics, and Writing skills. The remaining 200 hours are devoted to one of two options. The Business Office training portion would include expanded computer training which could lead to potential Micro-soft Office Specialist certifications in Word 2010 and Excel 2010. In addition, civil service testing preparation will be included. The Medical Office portion would introduce the students to medical terminology, medical office administration, and basic billing and coding procedures for the medical office setting. CDL and Construction Equipment Operation60 Hour Commercial Driver’s License Program (CDL) - Class A or BPrerequisite-Experience driving standard shift recommended. Flagger Training - Work Zone Flagger Training CoursePrerequisite-None.The Flagger Training Course is a comprehensive skill-building session that meets federal industry guidelines: the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) guidelines and the ANSI standard ISEA-107-1999. Each student will gain a thorough understanding of flagging procedures and the proper use of required equipment. Students will also acquire improved flagging skills from hands-on training, classroom activities and a flagging skills test along with an increased ability to coordinate traffic movement through the work zone. Career TrainingClinical Medical Assistant (CMA)Prerequisite-Must meet pre-admission assessment requirements. This is an introductory course designed to give an overview of the various components of the medical assistant’s professional responsibilities. This course is intended for students who are preparing for many of the excit-ing, challenging, and rewarding careers in the healthcare field. This program will prepare students to assist physicians by performing functions related to both business ad-ministration and clinical duties of a medical office. Instruction in business aspects includes insurance reporting, office accounting, and medical records. Clinical instruction includes: preparation of the patient for examination and treatment, routine laboratory procedures and the use of the electrocardiograph machine. These opportunities require people who want to operate in a high tech fluid environment filled with constant challenges and service commitments. Students will study the history and types of healthcare opportunities, professional workplace behavior, ethics, and the legal aspects of the healthcare setting. Students will also learn about the use of some of the technology in the healthcare fields. Nurse Aide Training Program Prerequisite-Must meet pre-admission assessment require-ments. This is a program designed to prepare the learner for employment as a Certified Nurse Aide. The course includes basic information about the care of hospitalized patients and residents in a Skilled Nursing Facility. Topics covered include; responsibili-ties of the Nurse Aide, legal and ethical issues, patients’ and residents’ rights, medical terminology and basic anatomy and physiology. Skills taught range from bathing and bed-making to taking the temperature, pulse and respirations. The completed GST BOCES Medical Form is required prior to 1st clinical date, plus any additional medical documents or immunizations required by the clinical site facility. At the successful completion of the course, students are qualified to take the NYS Certification Exam for Nurse Aide. For admission to the exam, you are required to present 2 forms of valid identification with your signature. Home Health Aide Competency Evaluation ProgramEligible individuals can take an approved Competency Evalu-ation Program to receive their Home Health Aide Certifications. The compe-tency evaluation program consists of procedure demonstrations and practice from the HHA training program checklists followed by a comprehensive written test. This 28 hour course is to ensure the competency of the individual’s skills and abilities as an HHA. 10 hours of in home clinical supervision will be required upon successful completion of the classroom requirements.

Individuals eligible to complete the competency evaluation program only, in lieu of the standardized training, include: • Nursing Assistant with 1 year of full time experience in a

general hospital in the past 5 years• An individual with documented home health aide or nurse

aide training and competency evaluation from an out-of-state training program;

• A Home Health Aide with documented home health aide training and competency evaluation who has not been employed as a home health aide for 24 consecutive months;

• A nursing student who has documented evidence of successful completion of course work requiring mastery of home health aide tasks within the past 24 months. Documentation would include a transcript with passing grade(s) and course description(s) or skills checklist signed by the nursing school instructor; and

• Veterans who were trained in the United States Military as medical technicians or medics.

This 28 hour course is to ensure the competency of the individual’s skills and abilities as an HHA. 18 hours classroom

training and skills assessment and 10 hours of in home clinical supervision will be required.Certified Nurse Aides Transitioning to HHA are also eligible for this Competency Evaluation Program.

Phlebotomy Technician Certification Preparation Program Prerequisite-Must meet pre-admission assessment requirements, high school diploma or GED. This is a course that will enable you to obtain an entry level position in a hospital, clinic or nursing home. This is a wonderful class to take if you are interested in advancing in the health care field. The phlebotomy program is designed to provide students with the hands-on practical skills needed to prepare you for the National Health Career Association Certification exam. Practical Nursing Program The Practical Nursing program consists of 1,200 hours of classroom instruction and clinical experience at local hospitals, long-term care facilities, doctor’s offices and other health-related agencies. The program will qualify you to take the New York State Licensing Exam. Train to be a Practical NurseOur affordable, effective Practical Nursing program can have you ready for your new career in less than a year!

The 1,200 hour program includes classroom and clinical instruction. Clinical experiences are offered at local hospitals, long-term care facilities, doctor’s offices and other health-related agencies. On average, 90 percent of our students pass the New York State Practical Nursing Exam.

The full time program will be offered at the Bush and Coopers Campuses beginning in August 2014. Classes will be held 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays and will continue through June 2015 (11 months).

Our part-time program will begin in July 2014 at the Bush Campus and continue through December 2015 (18 months). Class will be held three nights per week.

To be eligible, you must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma and must take the entrance test. We will offer the entrance test beginning in January 2014 for all of our Practical Nursing Programs. You must register for the test in advance.

Admissions PolicyAdult students seeking enrollment in a GST BOCES program through an agency sponsorship (e.g., Pro Action, ACCES/VR, and Workforce) must receive agency approval prior to the registration process. Adult students must initiate contact with, and secure endorsement from the sponsoring agency. Agencies sponsoring adult students must confirm sponsorship with GST BOCES.

Those seeking enrollment in a GST BOCES program as a self-sponsored, Adult Student must contact us to receive and complete all applicable registration forms and/or assessment testing for the desired program. Adult students seeking to pay for their programs through the Sallie Mae loan process must obtain written loan confirmation from GST BOCES prior to final enrollment.

The refund shall be made within 45 days of the planned start date.

Refunds for students who withdraw on or before the first day of class: To receive a full refund, the registrant must notify the office five business days prior to the first scheduled class. If tuition and fees are collected in advance of the start date of classes and the student does not begin the program or withdraws on the first day, $100 of the tuition and fees will be retained by GST BOCES. Appropriate refunds for a student who does not begin classes shall be made within 45 days of the class start date.

All Other ClassesPrior to the 1st Class: 100 percent refund, minus $10 drop fee & nonrefundable registration fee. Thereafter, there is NO REFUND.
