ALook Mark Your CALENDAR
Looking Forward to 2019 I’d like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a Happy, Healthy, Prosperous New Year. As Co-President of our Hadassah chapter along with Ruth Webster, I consider myself a typical Hadassah member who enjoys Mah Jongg and meeting and greeting all the members of Hadassah. We have many exciting events to look forward to this year. January 8, we have our Member Appreciation Event featuring The Book Thief movie with pizza and popcorn. The Book Club Luncheon is set for January 23 at the St. Lucie Trail Golf Club. Game Day is on February 12 with lunch and our Fashion Show Luncheon is on March 12. Even more fun events are to come for the 2019 calendar year! These events would not be possible without your support and partici-pation. Many of our members are Lifetime Members and we are now inviting everyone to take their generosity to the next level. Annual giving helps sustain Hadassah and all the great work they do year after year. Please consider becoming a Heroine Level Donor by contributing $100 per year for five years or a Chai Society Level member by contributing $180 per year (just $15 per month). Your generosity helps the Hadassah organization sustain healing, compassion, peace and medical research that is shared throughout the world. Thank you,
Dorn Zelinsky

This month’s meeting is a MEMBER APPRECIATION EVENT featuring pizza, popcorn and the 2013 movie, The Book Thief. It is a World War II war drama directed by Brian Percival and starring Geoffrey Rush, Emily Watson and Sophie Nélisse. The film is based on the 2005 novel of the same name by Markus Zusak. The movie is about a young girl living with her adoptive German family during the Nazi era. Taught to read by her kind-hearted foster
LOVE HADASSAH JANUARY MEETINGfather, the girl begins “borrowing” books and sharing them with the Jewish refugee being shel-tered by her foster parents in their home. This is a FREE EVENT FOR MEMBERS AND PROSPECTIVE MEMBERS. Many of you have asked if you can bring a guest. Yes, you can – with a $5 donation to Hadassah to help cover the cost of refresh-ments. Thanks to the support of our membership and the Vitalia
community, we reached our fundraising goal for 2018! You can help us get off to a great start for 2019 by participating in our $5 prize drawing. We look for-ward to celebrating with you!

In Jerusalem, Hadassah Medical Organization (HMO) is a beacon of healing. The most challeng-ing cases are HMO’s strength. At HMO, a diverse community of healthcare professionals work side by side to deliver superlative care and carry out medical re-search that impacts people in ev-ery corner of the globe. At HMO all patients – Jewish, Christian, Muslim, Druse, secular and reli-gious – receive dignified care. There is a two-year study taking place in Jerusalem on CBD oil, or Cannabidiol, which is extract-ed from the flowers and buds of hemp plants. This oil can reduce pain, inflammation, seizures, anxiety and other medical dis-orders. Results can drastically change autism treatment in Israel. The U.S. is currently watching the study. Preliminary results show 61% reported significant improve- ment in behavioral outbursts, 41% showed improvement with com- munication problems, 39% re-ported improvement with anxiety.Israeli researchers and compa-nies are looking for ways to not only treat, but also diagnose and even reduce the risk of autism at a much earlier state, as early as infant, newborn and even fetus development. In the United States, the CDC es-timates the prevalence of autism as one in 68 children. In Israel one in 100 children are diagnosed
with autism and over 500 infants are diagnosed annually.A new study led by an Israeli pro-fessor published earlier this year found that women who take folic acid and multivitamins before and
during pregnancy have a reduced risk of having a child with autism.HMO is always working on continuous strides in all medical challenges.

In today’s society it is said that we have forsaken the village for the
metropolis, turning our neighbors into strangers, and losing the word
“community” from our lexicon.
We see things differently...
