It takes all of our efforts to get through this and continue to offer what we currently do. Please follow the specific rules posted in each area. Additionally, all members must wear masks in all buildings except when seated to eat. We know social distancing is hard, but you need to remain at least six feet from others when you are on this property. Club Championships Brent Ratliff, PGA, Director of GolfONE OF THE REASONS THAT MANY OF US PLAY THIS GAME IS FOR THE THRILL OF COMPETITION. COMPETITION IS ABOUT TESTING YOURSELF AGAINST YOURSELF. SEEING HOW YOU HANDLE THE PRESSURE IN THE MOMENT AND MEASURING YOUR IMPROVEMENT. ONE OF THE BEST WAYS TO DO SO HERE AT WINDYKE IS TO SIGN UP FOR THE APPROPRIATE CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP. WE HAVE ONE FOR EACH AND EVERY AGE AND TYPE OF PLAYER, SO THIS YEAR, GET OFF THE SIDELINES AND INTO THE ACTION!

Stroke Play Championship & Club Championship Qualifier for Championship FlightAugust 8 and 9 Saturday Tee Times Begin at 9:00 • Sunday Tee Times Begin at 9:00

This year we are again combining these two events for your convenience. To help with everyone’s busy schedule and to make the Stroke Play a two day event, we have moved it to August 8 and 9. It also serves as the qualifier for the Club Championship Championship Flight. The top 15 players, along with last year’s champion Nick Giles, will be seeded into the championship flight. This event will be pre-flighted based on handicap and will cost $100 including cart for both days. The cost to play in the qualifier as well is $50 and that entry also covers the entry fee for the Club Championship August 15 and 16 even if you do not qualify for the championship flight. Call the golf shop today for more information, (901)755-3160.

JUNIOR CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPAugust 5 The annual Junior Club Championship will be held on Wednesday August 5th. We have moved the event to a one day event during the week to allow more kids to participate. The format is stroke play and is open to kid’s aged 6 – 18. Call the pro shop at (901)755-3160 to sign up. ENTRY FEE $20

Age groups: 8 & under 9 holes on the Executive Course9-10 years old 9 holes on the Executive Course 11-12 years old 18 holes on the Executive Course 13-14 years old 9 holes on the West Course 15-18 years old 18 holes on the West Course

Tee times will start at approximately 1:00 each day. Pairings and tee times will be posted Tuesday August 4th at 5:00. You may call the shop at (901)755-3160 or check the doors of the pro shop for your time.

Men’s Club ChampionshipAugust 15 and 16This is golf at its finest. For those purists, this is golf the old fashion way: match play. All players electing not to play in the qualifier or missing in their qualifying attempt will be pre-flighted based on their USGA indices. This is golf for all ability levels. Matches will be played on August 15 and 16. The 1st and 2nd round will be on the WEST course. Flights, pairings and tee times for the event will be posted on Friday August 14 at 5:00. The 3rd and 4th rounds will be on the EAST Course. Entry fee is $50 plus carts.

Note: This year the entire event will again be played on one weekend. We hope that this will allow more players to commit to playing by having more certainty of the time required to complete the entire event.

***SIGN UP MUST BE DONE IN PERSON IN THE GOLF SHOP***

Ladies Club ChampionshipAugust 15 and 16Club championship schedule would not be complete without our Ladies Club Championship. This year’s event will be held on August 15 and August 16. As always, this is a Gross and Net division golf tournament each and every lady should play. This is your event so we need your participation to make it a success. Call the golf shop @ (901)755-3160 to sign up today.

Senior Club ChampionshipOctober 3 and 4This year’s Senior Club Championship is a must play for any member 50 and older. We will play the event Saturday and Sunday October 3 and 4, with tee times starting at 8:00. The event is a pre-flighted gross and net event. So everyone can compete equally. Those players with a 6.9 index and below may choose to test themselves in the Cham-pionship Flight and play the gold tees or simply get flighted by their age and handicap and compete from the white tees. Either way it is a great event to test yourself among many of the city’s best “experienced” golfers. Entry fee this year is $70 plus cart with Senior Executive and Weekday members paying an additional $55 for the weekend. Mark your calendar and watch your e-mails for updates on the most experienced golf championship at Windyke.

Coach Brock901-755-3160 (Pro Shop booking)901-238-7974 (cell)[email protected] from the Pro

So, Bryson Dechambeau is the hottest golfer of late and it will be fun to see him at the WGC. He put on nearly 50 pounds! What a risk! Bryson is no stranger to risk and change when it comes to golf. He has always been the ‘mad professor’, willing to tinker and try things without fear of losing his game. He has a highly analytical mind that seems to be attracted to engineering and swing dynamics. He has followed the lead of legend Moe Norman and created a swing on a more singular plane. In other words, he moves his hands up high in the address position (top left), so that his wrists can remain in an ‘ulnar’ position (wrist bowed down) and he continues to hold this position through impact through an extensive roll of the wrists (middle picture) or a heavy arch after impact (top right). Ben Hogan called this ‘supination’ and it is still a huge part of successful golf.

I take a majority of my students through ulnar deviation training. I even do it at setup like Bryson is doing with his driver above, I just train it in chipping first to teach the wrists. Once proficiency is achieved, I expand the motion of the backswing and ask students to hold the follow through such that the left arm leads the club head after impact. Once this has been accomplished, I know the student can have success at full speed without the right arm dominating the down-swing.

Come on in and learn the tricks of this technique. It has great rewards!
