Art & Heritage Collections of the University of Adelaide are celebrating SA History Week with the following events:
Cultural IlluminationBotanical Charts and Models: Teaching Tools or Art?
An exhibition of early 20th century botanical charts and models used in teaching. Their beauty and exquisite execution has surely moved them into an art object category.

Heritage Buildings ToursDevelopment and Alumni and Art & Heritage Collections of the University of Adelaide invite you to join a tour of the University’s many State heritage-listed buildings. These buildings demonstrate the venerable age of the University and include some inspired building projects. Come and enjoy our built heritage.

The University Archives and Art & Heritage Collections of the University of Adelaide invite you to a Cultural Conversation to accompany the exhibition Blacks & Blues: Sporting Tradition at the University of Adelaide, on the topic:
Does Sport have a Place within the University?with Sue Coppin Collection Archivist, Paul Creedon Manager, Counseling and Disability Services — including Elite Athletes Support & Information Service, both from the University of Adelaide; Narguess Jahangiri 2006 Sports Officer, Adelaide Medical Student Society; Andres Munoz-Lamille President, Adelaide University Sports Association; Dr Donald Beard cricket and baseball player and administrator during his time at the University of Adelaide during the 1940s.

The article on the left is almost 100 years old — do we still need to have this debate about sport activities within the University? How do we support our students who are elite athletes? The University Archives are a repository for this heritage. The Conversation will reflect on the past achievements and give us a glimpse into the future of sport within the University.

Does sport enter too large into the
lives of boys at schools and colleges
in Australia? Some people have been
bold enough to assert that it does
to the disadvantage of the student,
while others, who are in the majority,
hold the strong opinion that sport is
a decided incentive to young men in
their school life.
Speaking to a representative of
‘The Advertiser’ on this subject
on Monday Mr L A Adamson, MA
(Headmaster of Wesley College
Melbourne), who is in Adelaide
with a football team from his college,
expressed his strong conviction that
many sports should be encouraged
in the public high schools. “I would
be very sorry, indeed, to run a school
where no sports are indulged in.” he
said. “I believe that the great public
school is not a technical knowledge
shop, but a training ground in the
art of life. The more abundant the life
the better the school.”
