WELCOME TO AMERICA!

Dear Valued Customer,

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for selecting one of ATI’s touring experiences. When you booked the tour you are on today, you may not have been aware that ATI was the tour operator. It is likely that you booked this tour through one of our many partners worldwide, an ATI client who entrusts us to take care of you – their valued customers.

When ATI was founded in 1977, there were no escorted or pre-planned tours taking visitors from all over the world to some of the most popular destinations in the USA. For instance, Bryce Canyon, which is now world renowned and treasured for its stunning geological formations, was not on the minds of many travelers 40 years ago. We are very proud to have helped raise the awareness of the incredible diversity of destinations across the USA and Canada by featuring them in our escorted and DriveAmerica touring programs.

In the pages that follow, you will find information on a wide array of exciting destinations across the USA and Canada, some are already quite well known and others are more off the beaten path. We hope that the pages ahead will inspire your next trip to North America. Most of all, we hope that you have an enjoyable and memorable journey ahead!

Thanks for choosing to discover America with ATI,

Noel and Nick ATI Leadership

We offer tailormade e-documentation via mobile app that provides driving directions, interesting history and facts about the places you are visiting, suggested points of interest, and all documentation you may need for hotels and attractions booked through ATI. Our DriveAmerica tours can also be fully customized by one of the many travel industry professionals who utilize ATI’s online platform to plan and book their customers travel. Please ask your booking agent about one of the many independent drive programs featured in the pages that follow if you are interested in such an experience for when you return to North America in the future.

OUR TOUR DIRECTORSCore to ATI’s success and to our escorted tour customer’s experience is the professionalism of our Tour Directors, who are the best in the industry. We are very proud of our Tour Directors as they are the front line of ATI, creating the experience for you and providing you with essential information and thoughtful commentary along an escorted journey. If you are seeking new and interesting experiences, why not take a turn off the beaten path to explore New Brunswick, Canada’s Hidden Gem!

WORLD’S HIGHEST TIDESComparable only to the Amazon in marine biodiversity and sharing a border with the US State of Maine, New Brunswick’s side of the Bay of Fundy is the unspoiled, serene adventure travel mecca of Atlantic Canada. The Fundy Coastal Drive, shouldering the phenomenal Bay of Fundy, offers a rare pocket of scenic splendour that’s home to one of the planet’s best collections of migratory whales and birds. It is also an important feeding ground for the protected and legendary sea giant, the rare North Atlantic Right whale.

NATURAL WONDERSFew places on earth are as awe-inspiring as the Fundy Coastal Drive starting with Hopewell Rocks, proudly boasting the best place to experience the highest tides in the world (up to 14 m / 48 ft.), which rise and fall twice a day, every day. Here you can walk on the ocean floor and six hours later kayak on the very same spot! You’ll be amazed as you witness 160 billion tonnes of seawater surround the Hopewell Rocks.

Want to continue your adventurous excursion? Walk, bike, hike or drive along the Fundy Trail Parkway, zipline “through the fog” at Cape Enrage, swim with the salmon in Fundy National Park or head out onto the Bay for breathtaking wildlife excursions in the Fundy Isles Archipelago.

The hit Tony Award musical COME FROM AWAY is based on the true story of how Newfoundlanders welcomed the world. A story of compassion, generosity, resilience and humour defines the people of Newfoundland

in a way that is all embracing. No small wonder the experiences here are unique and the encounters can be life changing.

National Geographic Traveler listed Newfoundland and Labrador’s Avalon Peninsula as the “Number 1 Top Coastal Destination in the World.” New York Times listed 10 top reasons to “love” Newfoundland and Labrador. Time to put this on YOUR list too!

That’s because of the pristine interface between land and sea remains natural and unspoiled, boosting 500 years of fishing balanced with the innovation of today’s ingenuity. Walk the old streets of St. John’s circled by the celebrated East Coast Trail overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and Signal Hill National Historic Site. Welcome the sunrise at Cape Spear Lighthouse National Historic Park where you can take a selfie standing on the most eastern point of all of North America. Enjoy picturesque villages, lighthouses, pebble beaches and gourmet picnics embraced with epic vistas. Let the thriving cultural, cuisine, arts and music offerings fill your evening.

Be assured that the spectacle is big. Around here you’ll find humpback whales in their thousands, seabirds in the millions, and icebergs that are 10,000 year-old floating remnants of glaciers. Let the fresh air consume you as hundreds of colorful villages along thousands of miles of seacoast welcome you. Take the path. It starts out as almost familiar, and ends up full of glorious wonderment!

DISCOVER THE NOVA SCOTIA THAT SPEAKS TO YOU

Halifax is our vibrant capital city by the sea and the largest city in Atlantic Canada. For centuries, visitors have been falling in love with Halifax where seafaring culture and urban adventure come together. Stroll the 10 city block boardwalk and discover the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic which tells the stories of Nova Scotia’s seafaring heritage, including our connection to the “Titanic”. The Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 displays the stories of the 1.5 million immigrants and Canadian military personnel who passed through between 1928 and 1971. The Halifax Citadel National Historic Site is home to the kilted 78th Highland Regiment who recreate British military life in Halifax. This star-shaped fortress has stood watch over the city since the mid-1800s.

Peggy’s Cove

Halifax

Nova Scotia holds the door wide open for those who come alive when they go outside. Hike the spectacular Skyline Trail on Cape Breton Island, one of 26 stunning scenic hikes in Cape Breton Highlands National Park, or take a guided canoe trip along the traditional waterways of the Mi’kmaq at Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Site and see the 10,000 year old petroglyphs. Fill your days watching whales play or stroll the ocean floor before it’s hidden again by the world’s highest tides. And for the golfers, Canada’s only true links golf course, Cabot Links, is just one reason that golfers flock to our fairways and greens. Nova Scotia is a hiking, cycling, paddling, golfing and just plain playing paradise.

Our history is always present in our culture and people. In Nova Scotia, cultures combine to form a wonderful tapestry of experiences. Mi’kmaq, Acadian, African Nova Scotian and Gaelic influences live strong to this day. Boasting three UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the province speaks to the vibrant history that’s been wonderfully preserved. The tales you’ll hear today are attributed to a storied past.

Nothing brings people together like an unforgettable meal and in Nova Scotia our cuisine flows with the seasons. Nova Scotia is famous for fresh seafood, but the artistry of our winemakers, chefs, farmers and producers are all on the menu. From an award-winning four course dinner on the ocean floor to sampling our wonderful wines, you will feed your soul while delighting your senses. Whatever adventure you choose, everything is within reach.

Follow your heart to Nova Scotia.

Cape Breton Highlands National Park-Skyline Trail

No matter where your exploring takes you in Nova Scotia, you will uncover hidden treasures that enrich your travels. Nova Scotia’s breathtaking seacoast, living history, friendly locals and fresh seafood each hold

the promise of experiences to be remembered for years to come.

Perched on Canada’s Atlantic Coast, our province’s geography is as varied as it is beautiful. Natural wonders are around every corner in places like Peggy’s Cove, home to what’s probably the most photographed lighthouse in Canada. From exploring the Cabot Trail, one of the world’s most scenic drives, to the colourful waterfront of Lunenburg, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, there is much to be discovered along our nearly 13,300 kilometres (8264 miles) of seacoast.

ONE TRAIL LEADS TO A MILLION MEMORIES AND WELLNESSThe recent worldwide pandemic gave us an opportunity to pause, look back, and count our blessings. We were reminded of what’s truly important in life. It comes down to moments we share with loved ones. We learned that traveling freely can never be taken for granted. We learned how precious it is to just be with our loved ones in the same space. Now you are traveling and just picked up this copy of Where Next magazine. Isn’t it wonderful to be able to travel again?

Located less than 50km (30 miles) from the cool pines of Flagstaff, nearly 190km (120 miles) from the bustling desert city of Phoenix, and a little over 160km (100 miles) from the Grand Canyon, Sedona is a red rock paradise. Sedona makes the perfect getaway to reconnect with the people who matter the most, providing a bouquet of memories that will never fade.

Sedona is equal parts playground and resort; equal parts wilderness and spiritual retreat. It is a place far removed from the everyday experience. The rising columns of red rocks form a fortress that repels stress and distraction. The scenic splendor lifts hearts and ignites smiles. Sedona just seems to bring out the best in all of us. No wonder it’s such a joyful place to share. Time spent in Sedona is more than a vacation; it’s also a long-term investment in wellness.

Hundreds of miles of hiking and biking trails promote physical activity and a closer connection with nature. Whether hiking in the shadow of soaring monoliths, strolling along the banks of dancing stream, wafting through the sky in a hot air balloon to greet the rising sun, rumbling

into the outback aboard a rugged jeep, or meditating at a vortex site crackling with ancient energy, let the adventure sweep you away. Dozens of spas offer treatments designed to restore harmony and health. A number of healing practitioners are ready to assist those on a spiritual quest. Many restaurants serve delicious meals of locally sourced ingredients with vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options. With our cowboy-style steakhouses, spicy Southwestern, elegant Italian and everything in between, Sedona has emerged as a destination for fine food. A variety of grapes grow on lush hillsides producing fine Arizona wines. Days spent among the sprawling red rock beauty are a vacation for mind, body and soul.

This kind of vacation makes for vivid, fond memories; stories that will be recounted over many dinner tables for years to come. That’s the magic of Sedona. It gives you a chance to live fully in the moment while you’re here. And then gives you golden moments to take with you, to relive over and over again.

Plan your Sedona experience at www.VisitSedona.com.

You may know Scottsdale for its metropolitan side, which boasts luxury resorts, plush spas and chef-driven restaurants. But this chic desert gem is equally popular for its endless sunny skies and wide-open expanses of pristine Sonoran Desert. OLD TOWN SCOTTSDALEOld Town’s nine unique districts are tailor made for strolling. Sample half a dozen of the city’s most buzz-worthy restaurants on a guided food tour. Stretch your legs along the Wine Trail and enjoy tastings from renowned Arizona vintners. Explore cutting-edge exhibitions at the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art or the spirit of the American West at Western Spirit: Scottsdale’s Museum of the West. Or browse the latest on-trend styles at Scottsdale Fashion Square or the 5th Avenue shops. strewn mountains crisscrossed by 225 miles of shared-use trails for hiking, mountain biking and climbing.

TALIESIN WESTLegendary architect Frank Lloyd Wright was so captivated by the Sonoran Desert’s natural beauty and sunny climate that he chose Scottsdale as the location for his winter home and architectural school, Taliesin West. Daily tours provide an insider’s look into Wright’s airy, ingenious designs and his ability to seamlessly blend indoor and outdoor spaces.

OFF-ROAD TOURSWhen you want to really get away from it all, guided tours by Jeep, Hummer and you-drive ATVs and Tomcars will take you to some of the Sonoran Desert’s most remote locales. Along the way, you’ll learn about the desert’s fascinating eco-system, geology and cultural history.

KIERLAND COMMONS & SCOTTSDALE QUARTERThese neighboring open-air shopping centers, perched on either side of Scottsdale Road, house dozens of upscale retailers, restaurants, day spas, and splash pads for the kids, making them the perfect places to while away a sunlit Scottsdale afternoon.

Today you will drive about an hour to Springdale which is located just outside of Zion National Park amidst breathtaking mountain panoramas. Springdale has been named one of the 20 ‘prettiest towns’ in the United States by Forbes Traveler. This community is home to farmers markets, art galleries, outfitters, gift shops, hiking, bike trails and more. Along the way you will encounter Sand Hollow State Park, renowned for its red sand beaches, stunning red rock formations and variety of activities including water and motorized recreation. Located off Hwy 9 in Rockville, after crossing an iron lattice-truss bridge built in 1926 you will find one of Utah’s best preserved ghost towns-Grafton. The cemetery includes graves of both early settlers and Paiutes dating back to 1862. The abandoned town site with adobe schoolhouse, Russell home and crumbling cabins is notably known as the location for the famed bicycle scene from the 1969 classic “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.” Zion National Park is famous for its iconic hiking trails and dramatic surroundings; from strenuous, moderate/family friendly and wheelchair accessible hikes. No charge for the Zion shuttle that transports you throughout the town and park. Today you will be captivated by a Back-country Bliss four-hour ATV Adventure (Retail cost is 212 per person but since you are booking a part of this package the price is heavily discounted). Enjoy local history, geological formations, and pristine high desert environment on this special excursion. Afterwards enjoy a stroll alongside the Riverside Walk Trail, Angel’s Landing or cool off in the Virgin River.

Dining Suggestions: Switchback Grille and Steakhouse, King’s Landing & Bistro, Spotted Dog Cafe, Oscar’s Cafe, Bit N Spur, Meme’s Cafe, Stagecoach Grill, Red Rock Grill.

Day 3Zion - Springdale

The intensity of the colors-the vivid ruby of the rocks, the clear sapphire of the sky, the emerald of the grass-make Zion National Park a treasure of the West. Today, explore Emerald Pools which is an easy to moderate hiking trail or if you prefer a more strenuous hike, we recommend ‘The Narrows’ which is surrounded on three sides creating a natural amphitheater-gear for this self-guided hike can be booked in advance. Today you will start early with a half-day Bike ride offered by Zion Outfitters (basic to moderate skill level required) where you will be able to enjoy some of the most memorable trails in the park. Then in the afternoon you will embark upon a VIP Helicopter Tour operated by Zion Helicopters that gives you an unforgettable bird’s-eye perspective of the vast and unique landscapes in and around Zion (retail cost is 259 per person for both activities but since you are booking a part of this package the price is deeply discounted). Later in the day, you may also want to enjoy Zion’s best kept secret, scenic Kolob Terrace road located nearby. The road runs from the town of Virgin up to the Kolob Resevoir, cutting in and out of Zion National Park as you witness some of the most spectacular rock formations and diverse landscape.

Dining Suggestions: Switchback Grille and Steakhouse, King’s Landing & Bistro, Spotted Dog Cafe, Oscar’s Cafe, Bit N Spur, Meme’s Cafe, Stagecoach Grill, Red Rock Grill.

Enjoy the space and solitude you will find driving this route. Red Canyon-Dixie National Forest is similar to the iconic hoodoos in Bryce Canyon. Enjoy hiking, horseback riding and mountain biking on trails for all skill levels (optional). The trails in Red Canyon are all pet-friendly. Kodachrome Basin State Park is less than a 30 minute drive from Bryce Canyon National Park. Home to several towering spires and sandstone chimneys, the hues of Kodachrome contrast those of Bryce Canyon nicely. Kodachrome boasts trails for all skill levels and incredible night sky opportunities. Near Kodachrome Basin you can choose some off-the beaten path hikes such as Willis Creek a local favorite, or drive an additional 20 miles down a dirt road and take a selfie at Grosvenor’s Arch. In the afternoon start your journey on the second half of the Scenic By way 12-Utah’s All-American Road. This route connects Bryce Canyon to Utah’s lesser known national park, Capitol Reef. Today’s destination is Escalante, a quaint community with a lot of small-town charm and culture. Take time to enjoy the view points along the way. Stop at the Escalante Petrified Forest State Park for another hike or cool off with a kayak or paddle board rental (optional) at wide hollow reservoir, or learn more about the heritage in the area and stop at the Hole-in-the Rock Visitor Center. Take an evening hike at Calf Creek Falls-this six mile (9 km) round trip hike ends at a 126-foot cascading waterfall.

Dining Suggestions: IDK BBQ, The Pizza Place in Tropic, Escalante Outfitters or Circle D, Escalante Outfitters, Circle D or Canyon Grill at the Canyon Country Lodge, Kiva Koffeehouse, Magnolia’s or Burr Trail Grill.

Exploring the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument will likely keep you occupied for at least the entire day. Some of the top locations to experience are Devil’s Rock Garden (15 mi. down the Hole in the Rock Road - make sure you have a high-clearance vehicle) or Spooky and Peekaboo Slot Canyons (26 miles down the Hole in the Rock Road).

You will access this by taking SR 24 and onto Heritage Highway 89. Enjoy Panguitch Lake, parts of Cedar Breaks and drop into Cedar City via Scenic Byway 14. Once in Cedar City, get on I-15 and you will leave the natural backdrop of Utah for the striking neon of Las Vegas. Enjoy the glitz & glamour of this desert playground. COWBOYS…Texas is synonymous with cowboys! Whether it’s about the traditional working cowboy or the National Football League’s (NFL) Dallas Cowboys, or Major League’s Baseball (MLB) Texas Rangers - the cowboy has become an iconic symbol of Texas.

Centrally located is Grapevine, Texas, a historic town settled before Texas became a state, and home to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (aka DFW). The Grapevine experience offers life of the traditional cowboy with cattle drives, rodeos, honky-tonks, country music, and fictional shoot-outs. See the world’s most illustrious ranch, “Southfork Ranch”, made famous by the Ewing family in the television series, Dallas, and visit the Dallas Cowboys AT&T Stadium and the Texas Rangers Globe Life Field.

INDIANS…Oklahoma. One state, many nations. The name Oklahoma means red people in Choctaw. Today, 39 American Indian nations have tribal headquarters in Oklahoma – more than any other state. While two tribes already lived in the area at the time of European contact, all others were forced to leave ancestral homelands and migrated to what was then Indian Territory, each having their own district, culture and society. On this trip, visit tribes who reside in Oklahoma: from tribal perspective, learn of their early history, how they got to Oklahoma and about some of their most influential members. See what the Oklahoma-based tribes are

today – sovereign nations with thriving businesses and cultures and citizens who are working hard to preserve their language and heritage. You’ll visit the Chickasaw Cultural Center; the First Americans Museum; Standing Bear Park, Museum and Education Center; the Cherokee National History Museum; the Choctaw Cultural Center; and the Osage Nation Museum.

Some of the world’s largest collections of Art portraying American Cowboys and American Indians are found at Oklahoma City’s National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum, Tulsa’s Gilcrease Museum, and at Bartlesville’s Woolaroc Ranch.

ALL THAT JAZZ…Jazz was born in Louisiana! New Orleans to be exact, and precisely at Congo Square! This public square was one of the only places in America where slaves were allowed to gather and play drums. They did so on “free Sundays,” where the sharing of African rhythms and dance kept their ancestral tradition alive until, as it happened, it would become the very rhythm of American popular culture.

Jazz is the music that erupted when African (and Afro-Caribbean) and European traditions converged in America and nowhere was that mix more potent than in New Orleans. Naturally, many of the earliest names in jazz hailed from Louisiana, including Buddy Bolden, Jelly Roll Morton and King Oliver. One of jazz’s most original performers, New Orleans’ own Louis “Satchmo” Armstrong, was as much an ambassador for the music as he

The USA’s Southern western states include Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana, three states that are famously known for Cowboys, Indians and Jazz.

was for his hometown. The newest generation of jazz musicians continue to honor the tradition while bringing in their own unique sounds.

FABULOUS FOODBreakfast, lunch and dinner… all GREAT reasons to travel Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana. Food in this USA region is uniquely fabulous and incredibly delicious, where home-style cooking is the heart of the exceptional restaurants featured throughout the Cowboys, Indians and All That Jazz route. Places like Meat U Anywhere BBQ in Grapevine, Cattlemen’s Steakhouse in Oklahoma City, The Chicken Shack in Luther, the Sentry Drug & Grill and Little Cakes with Big Attitude in Alexandria, or Strawn’s Eat Shop in Shreveport Bossier and Mother’s Restaurant in New Orleans. All serve-up yummy favorites while providing nourishment for the soul.

Any visit in Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana is not complete without including a few delicious BBQ joints here and there. Some serve it wet, some serve it dry, some service it sweet, and some service it hot – all are out of this world good!

PARADISE AWAITSMiles of unspoiled beaches, pristine rainforests, spectacular waterfalls and snow-capped mountains, there is nowhere in the world quite like Hawaii. Welcoming and familiar, yet offering an exotic allure that beckons from across the Pacific, Hawaii is the escape everyone needs right now. With their balance of world-class beaches, tourist attractions and luxury resorts, Oahu, Maui, Kauai and the Big Island hold the most appeal for visitors.

A NATURALLY STUNNING GATHERING PLACEThe gateway to Hawaii is Oahu, home to iconic Waikiki Beach, the famed North Shore beach breaks and the revered memorial to the attack on Pearl Harbor. Dominating the Waikiki vista, the mighty volcanic cone of Diamond Head watches over what was once a hunting ground for Hawaiian royalty. Today, it’s a tropical playground where people from around the world come to soak up the sun, dive into the sparkling azure waters or rise to early morning beach yoga sessions.

THAT MAUI WOW FACTORSince the 1960s, Maui’s Ka’anapali Beach has been one of Hawaii’s favorite leisure destinations. The sheltered waters are protected by black rock cliffs, where nightly torch lighting and cliff diving ceremonies usher in the evening celebrations at the nearby resorts. The island is ripe for exploring, with sugarcane plantations, coffee and pineapple farms selling fresh produce, and one of America’s great drives, the Road to Hana, taking you along dramatic cliffs and past the black sands of Wai’anapanapa Beach. Every day you’ll be inspired to try something new, like snorkeling with turtles, whale watching, stand up paddleboarding or playing some of the island’s incredible golf courses.

DISCOVER A PACIFIC EDENKauai, known as the Garden Island for its lush wilderness, offers an abundance of escapes from the stresses of the everyday. Hike the Na Pali Coast’s Kalalau Trail, explore ancient forests, take a helicopter ride over majestic waterfalls and canyons, and zipline over the treetops. These prehistoric features have served as the setting for movies like Jurassic Park – and you can take a tour to see where Spielberg filmed some of its most dramatic moments.

LARGER THAN LIFE AND MORE BEAUTIFUL THAN EVERThe island of Hawaii, known as the Big Island, offers plenty of highlights by day and night, with stargazing and night diving with manta rays as popular as tours to the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, home to two active volcanoes – Kīlauea and Mauna Loa. Connect to the island’s past at Kaloko-Honokōhau National Historical Park, which protects the remains of an ancient Hawaiian settlement of petroglyphs and heiau (temples).

A MOMENT TO SHAREAs the sun sets each night, the Hawaiian Islands light up with torches and fire twirling as locals share the same stories and traditions that have been passed down by elders for centuries. These ceremonial lūʻaus are a feast for the senses, with music, dancing, and buffets of the freshest mahi-mahi, shrimp, grilled meats and tropical fruits. It’s a must-do experience that captures the spirit of this beautiful part of the world, and it’s something you will never forget.

With Marriott International hotels and resorts on Oahu, Maui, Kauai and the Big Island, Marriott BonvoyTM is your ticket to world-class accommodations, cultural and culinary adventures, and a rewarding Hawaii stay.
