NeurologyThe Neurology/Neurosurgery Service is the largest Neurology clinic in Scotland. The team

includes Diplomates and Residents of the European College of Veterinary Neurology (ECVN)

alongside a dedicated Specialist Neurology Support Nurse.

The Small Animal Hospital accommodates specialists in Anaesthesia, Cardiology, Diagnostic

Imaging, Internal Medicine, Oncology, Ophthalmology and Surgery to provide comprehensive

care for all cases and a 24-hour intensive care unit ensures critical patients are continually

monitored. The hospital also boasts an on-site rehabilitation suite with a hydrotherapy unit

and dedicated physiotherapists.

Why refer to the Small Animal Hospital?Diagnostic procedures are available 24/7 for the investigation of spinal, intracranial and neuromuscular disorders. On-site diagnostic facilities include:• Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)• Computerised Radiography• Computerised Tomography (CT)• Electrodiagnostic techniques

Surgical facilities are available 24/7 for treatment

of lesions in the central and peripheral nervous systems. Commonly performed surgical techniques include:• Ventral slot decompression• Hemilaminectomy

• Dorsal laminectomy• Corpectomy• Foraminotomy• Craniotomy• Nerve and muscle biopsies

We also run a dedicated seizure clinic providing a

complete medical assessment, treatment plan and life-long support for the patient.

Clinical research plays an important part in monitoring

disease and improving diagnostic tools and treatments. The Neurology service is currently involved in studies on facial nerve paralysis and vestibular disease, canine glioma, canine and feline seizures and meningoencephalites of unknown origin.
