The goal of HUMANIST NoE
To federate the researches in the domain of user/system interactions and their applications on in-vehicle information systems and advanced driver assistance systems.
By creating a European Virtual Centre of Excellence on HUMAN centred design for Information Society Technologies applied to Road Transport.
The knowledge collected and produced by HUMANIST will contribute directly to the eSafety initiative.
The project is funded through the Information Society Technologies Priority of the Sixth Framework Programme of the European Community.
Integration Activities
To manage and to consolidate the NoE research structure: - by promoting the mobility of researchers within the network,- by optimising the pool of existing experimental
infrastructures through sharing,- by setting up electronic tools in order to share the
knowledge inside the network.
A joint programme of activities
To progress towards the creation of an European Virtual Centre, the HUMANIST Consortium has built a coherent joint programme of activities, gathering research, integrating activities, spreading of excellence and management activities.
The consortium
23 partners from 15 countries108 researchers and 27 doctoral students.
Research activities
To cover the knowledge requiredto investigate all the various aspects of human centred design:- Identifi cation of driver needs in relation to ITS,- Evaluation of ITS Potential Benefi ts,- Joint-Cognitive models of Driver-Vehicle-Environment for
User-Centred Design,- Impact analysis of ITS on driving behaviour,- Developement of innovative methodologies to evaluate ITS
safety and usability,- Driver education and training for ITS use,- Use of ITS to train and educate drivers.
Management activities
To assess the quality and the sustainability of the NoE integration:- by carrying out a periodical internal review process and fi nal external review,
- by preparing a business plan.
Spreading of excellence Activities
To disseminate the knowledge from the NoE widely:- by organising debates with RTD projects on eSafety and
relevant stakeholders,- by promoting harmonisation with standardisation and pre-
normative bodies,- by setting up training programmes towards early-stage
researchers ans professionals,- by promoting and disseminating concepts activities and
results of the NoE to a wide audience.
