Trade Facilitation for Agri-food Products
What is so unique about agri-food trade? Perishability – time and temperature sensitive
Product and Process Standards
Technical Regulations (SPS, private standards)
Logistics (warehousing) and infrastructure – special requirements
Trend Increasing requirements for product information (traceability) to meet safety standards and consumer expectations in major export markets
Examples of trade facilitation measures targeted to agricultural and perishable food products
– Making issuance of SPS certificates easier and faster
– Giving priority to clearance of perishable goods at borders
– Joint or delegated conduct of inspections by food, agriculture, health, customs and other agencies
– Moving from paper-based to electronic documentation (including through implementation of electronic traceability)
– Providing cold-store facilities at ports
BPA studies on trade of agriculture or food products conducted in 5 countries
(Bangladesh, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Nepal).
Studies provide an overview of time taken and procedures necessary in
import and export processes.

Center, Kasetsart University
(technologies and practices for
reducing postharvest losses, lab
session)
Day 2: Thayang Agriculture
Cooperative (process of export of
organic banana to Japan)
Day 3: Operation of Talaad Thai
Wholesale Market, Sampran Model
of organic production & marketing
Objectives: To showcase good practices in Agricultural
Trade Facilitation and Market Linkages, and adopt &
disseminate the good practices in participants’ home countries
Recap of Interregional Visit (23-25 September 2014)
Outcomes:
– Learning on good postharvest practices; organic
production, certification and marketing; wholesale market
operations
– High level of Q&A and interaction; Two-way sharing of
