NetSCOPE Goals and Strategies

Goal 1 (Over-Arching): Improve student academic achievement in our high-need schools

Key Strategies: Improve the quality of teachers in our high-need

districts by providing improved, collaborative professional development of preservice and inservice teachers (beginning and veteran) with a focus on student learning

Reform 1: All facets of NetSCOPE will be based on

empirically based practice and scientifically valid research

Goal 2: Improve professional learning for school-university faculty and teacher candidates

Key Strategy: Establishing a Partnership Network centered

on joint school-university faculty inquiry into educational topics through creation of professional development schools

Reform 2: Collaboration outside the teacher preparation program

Goal 3: Strengthen the pre-baccalaureate preparation of teacher candidates

Key Strategy: Better preparing future educators by strengthening the

pre-baccalaureate preparation of teachers and through redesigned, year-long clinical experiences

Reform 3: Teacher preparation curriculum changes

Reform 4: Admission goals and priorities aligned with LEAs

Reform 5: Preparing prospective teachers to teach college-credit

courses

Goal 4: Increase support for new teachers in our high-need districts

Key Strategy: Developing and implementing three-year

induction and mentoring programs serving each cohort of new teachers

Reform 6: Developing and implementing an induction and mentoring

program

University-school district partnerships will promote simultaneous renewal of schools with a focus on student learning and educator preparation. Engagement in collaborative learning communities will take place in a three-tiered network: Professional Development School (PDS)

Engages in unique and intense school-university collaboration

designed to: 1. Prepare future educators; 2. Provide all current educators with ongoing professional development; 3. Encourage joint school-university faculty investigations into education-related issues; and 4. Promote the learning of P-12 students.

Has at least 2/3 majority of the school’s teachers committed to a five-

year partnership.

Receives a significant presence from Winthrop University through an

assigned university liaison.

Hosts year-long teacher-candidate internships.

Participates in earlier teacher candidate clinical experiences focusing

on LEP, special needs, high-poverty students, and literacy development.

Provides an identified School Liaison (teacher or school leader) to help

facilitate partnership-related activities, including professional development and technical assistance.

Partner School (PS)

Commits to collaboration with Winthrop with a majority staff

commitment.

Hosts year-long teacher-candidate internships.

Participates in earlier teacher candidate clinical experiences focusing

on LEP, Special Needs, high-poverty students, and literacy development.

Receives as a liaison the Partnership Network Coordinator who helps

facilitate networking with other PS and PDS sites and Winthrop for shared professional learning and the sharing of field-based research to inform classroom practice.

Provides a designated school liaison (teacher or school leader) to help

facilitate the partnership-related work, including professional development and technical assistance.

Satellite School (SS)

Is the designation for all non PDS/PS high-need schools in the LEAs.

Receives comprehensive, district-wide induction programs for all new

teacher cohorts.

Participates in network professional development opportunities.
