The principle of nephelometry

A light beam with a wavelength of 840 nm is passedthrough a cuvette containing the antigen-antibodycomplex.

Nephelometry measures the amount of lightscattering by an antigen-antibody complex.

The amount of scattered light is proportional to theconcentration of the antigen-antibody complexes inthe sample over a wide concentration range.

Sensitivity can be increased by coating latexparticles with antibodies or antigens. This processmakes it possible to measure small molecules, such as Homocysteine and Cystatin C, or analytesrequiring optimal low-end sensitivity, includinghsCRP and IgG3/IgG4 subclasses.
