PRESENTATIONS

Conference Presentation, 2018 Critical Questions in Education Conference, March 5-7,

2018. Finding the time and mechanism for meaningful professional development is some-

thing of an enigma for many school districts. This presentation/paper suggests an

alternative path to enhanced professional development grounded in the notion of self-

learning and the learning-to-learn philosophy.

Conference Presentation, 2017 Critical Questions in Education Conference, March 7,

2017. One impact of a standardized education model has been to fog educator’s memories

and inject a wedge of distrust in their own sense of self-efficacy. However, this presenta-

ion suggests that professional educators have long known what teaching practices are both

meaningful and truly effective. This presentation cites ongoing research in pedagogical

practices and professional development and asserts that teachers can acquire more

effective teaching practices through familiarization with teaching effectiveness research

and participation in meaningful and ongoing professional development without

jeopardizing student achievement and the teacher evaluation process.

Conference Presentation, 2016 Critical Questions in Education Conference, March 7-9,

2016. This presentation examined the necessity of the integration of ecopedagogy with

social justice curriculum into teacher preparation programs in opposition to neoliberal

intrusion in the field of education and teacher preparation in particular.

Conference Presentation, 2015 Critical Questions in Education Conference, February 16 -

18, 2015.Two presentations were accepted: Presentation one examined the lack of

skills and dispositions that lead to effective and self-directed learning as observed among

current teacher preservice teacher candidates. Presentation two examined the intrusion of

neoliberal managerial tendencies creeping into teacher preparation and higher education

in general.

RESEARCH

Statement of Research Interests

My current areas of interest are: 1) transformational learning as an aspect of international

experiential education, 2) integration of effective teaching practices in teacher

preparation and in-service teacher professional development, 3) implementing critical

pedagogy as a component of social justice and ecopedagogy into teacher education.

INSTRUCTION

Teaching Philosophy:

As a teacher, I view my role as that of a facilitator and a co-learner, actively engaged

with my students in a shared, collaborative process. As a methodology I favor a

constructivist model with a focus towards real-life, practical issues. The ultimate goal of

learning in the social environment is empowerment; the inherent goal in the formal

learning environment is integration, the overarching goal in any educational setting is

transformation.
