Neapolis University of Pafos is the latest institution to be registered as a university in Cyprus, having

received Ministry of Education approval in December 2007, and the first ever university in the region of

Pafos. The University offers programmes of study at Bachelor, Master and Doctoral level in economics,

finance, management, business administration, psychology, architecture, real estate and construction.

The University has attracted academic staff with long experience in teaching and research from leading

Universities and uses state-of-the-art learning and information technologies to create a challenging

and rewarding academic environment which equips students with knowledge and enduring skills for

successful international careers. The University Campus located in the heart of the vibrant and Unesco

world heritage city of Pafos is a stone’s throw from the city’s beaches and many attractions providing a

Choosing a programme of study is one of the most significant

decisions that one makes and I hope that the information provided

here will provide prospective students with a good idea of the

programmes we offer and the professional opportunities that our

graduates will enjoy.

Setting up a University is a momentous task, which involves not

only the considerable practical aspects of the physical creation of

the University but also the more difficult task of creating a mission

and philosophy for the new institution. My colleagues and I are

determined to create an institution that provides high quality

education, which creates and disseminates knowledge through our

research, and plays a significant role in the economic and cultural

life of the region.

Our task is facilitated by the state-of-the-art campus, the natural

and cultural surroundings of Pafos, the prevalent use of the latest

technology and the quality of our staff.

General Admission criteriaThe University admits students irrespective of nationality, race, religion, or gender, provided that they meet the predefined admission criteria of each programme of study. The general admission criteria are based on the type and quality of previous studies, the grade obtained in previous studies, and the suitability of the candidate for the programme of study that has been applied for.The University’s admission policy is to make admission offers to applicants who are judged to have the background and abilities to succeed in the program to which they are made an offer and who are likely to benefit from university study.

Admission of Students with Special NeedsThe University offers equal opportunities to all students regardless of their physical abilities. Candidates who have some form of disability which is mentioned in their application will be examined on equal terms as all other candidates. Should any University employee reject a candidate due to physical disability then this is considered to be a disciplinary matter.The candidates should explain in their application form the nature of their disability and inform the admissions office concerning the special needs they will require during their studies.

Application Forms Application forms for undergraduate study are available from the Admissions Office and, once completed, should be returned directly to that office together with the additional documentation specified below. English Language RequirementsThe minimum English language requirements are:• TOEFL - a minimum score of 550 (paper based) or 213

(computer-based) or 80 (internet based) in the TOEFL test.• IELTS - The British Council/University of Cambridge Local Syndicate’s test of Academic English, International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with a composite score in the range of 6-6.5 and not less than 6 in any one component.• GCE O Level English Language at Grade C or above.• GCSE English language at Grade C or above.• CSE Grade 1 Pass in English.• Hong Kong Certificate of Education, English Language Syllabus B, Grade C or better.• A pass in the Use of English examinations administered by bodies as listed under GCE Examination Board.• A pass in the Oxford Examining Body’s English as a Foreign Language (Higher Paper).• A pass in English in the Joint Matriculation Board (JMB) Test in English (Overseas) examination.• Matriculation examinations from European countries where English is presented as a subject and an acceptable level is achieved.• One of the following other University of Cambridge ESOL exams: • Grade C or higher on a Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE)Grade A on a Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) • After admission, candidates may be required to take additional instruction in English language.

Requirements for Applicants to Bachelor Degrees The applicants should have completed a 6-year secondary education level of studies from a country which is recognized by the government of the Republic of Cyprus as being equivalent in terms of educational provision at secondary level. The selection criteria for the applicants who will be offered a place will be the School leaving certificate grades, the interview results, the reference letters and the results of any University entry examination, if taken. Admission offers are made broadly on merit based on demonstrated achievement, especially academic achievement, but may also take account of other factors such as demonstrated commitment and specific achievements related to particular fields of endeavour.Where the number of places in a programme is limited by a quota, places will be offered in order of merit of applicants.

Documents Required A student who applies for the Undergraduate Programme should submit the following documents:1. Completed Undergraduate programme Admissions Form2. Certified results for all examinations mentioned on the application form and/or confirmation of the award of the student’s qualification(s). 3. Evidence of English language proficiency.4. An official transcript of academic work completed to date. 5. Three confidential letters of recommendation from instructors most familiar with the student’s academic work.6. A personal statement of interest in pursuing undergraduate studies.7. International students must provide to the Admissions Office a Financial Statement attesting to their ability to meet the costs of their study at the University.

Requirements for Applicants to Master Degrees Applicants should hold a bachelor’s degree. The selection criteria will depend on the programme of study.

The Business School of Neapolis University Pafos is committed to providing its students with an interesting as well as useful experi-ence. The School offers courses at both undergraduate and post-graduate levels in Business Administration, Banking and Finance, and Economics. The Graduate School offers also a doctoral degree that allows specialization in Economics, Business Administration, Finance, or Management.

As an internationally oriented business school, we aim to attract students from all over the world enabling them to mix with, and learn from people from many different cultures. Students may also elect to take a study exchange during their programme of study and spend one or two semesters at one of our partner institutions in Europe.

We believe that our teaching should be informed and shaped by our research and the School plans to develop its academic research agenda in key areas of management, economics and finance, as well as in application areas of great significance such as tourism. To this end we have pursued a recruitment strategy that creates a strong and relevant Business School.

Nature of the ProgrammeEconomics is the study of how individuals, businesses, and governments decide the allocation of limited resources to achieve their objectives and how these decisions affect society. Microeconomics studies how consumers and businesses make decisions about work and leisure, consumption and saving, production and pricing. Macroeconomics studies the determination of national income in a country, how it is distributed, how it fluctuates, and the phenomena of inflation and unemployment. The study of economics at NUP equips students with the knowledge and tools of economic theory to understand the functioning of markets, of firms, and of financial organizations and to analyse and predict the costs, benefits and consequences of economic decisions; it helps students understand public debate about economic policy, including taxation and government expenditure, trade and globalization, health and welfare; it enables students to assess and explain macroeconomic conditions and to estimate the economic impact of specific changes in legislation or public policy.

Career ProspectsStudents graduating from the programme will have a deep understanding of key economic concepts, theories, and analytical skills to critically interpret and manipulate economic data, and formulate and resolve problems; understand the global nature of economics; and appreciate how the international dimensions of economic policy, regulation and competition can be incorporated into specific policy or business situations. In addition to economics training, students graduating from the programme will have a good foundation in general business and humanities, as well as communication and research skills, and will be ready either for graduate studies in Economics, Business and Finance or for successful careers in industry, banking, the financial sector and the government. Programme StructureThe undergraduate programme in Economics consists of the General Education subjects, Business subjects and Economics Subjects.

General Education SubjectsThe purpose of the General Education subjects is to ensure that every graduate of Neapolis University acquires the essential foundations for living a productive life, being a citizen of the world, appreciating aesthetic values, and engaging in life-long learning in a continually changing world. For this reason, the general education requirements provide breadth across the humanities and arts, social studies and sciences; competence in communication, critical thinking, analytical skills and research capabilities, appropriate for a university-educated person. The General Education Curriculum includes courses in Sociology and Anthropology, Philosophy, Psychology, History and Politics, Language, Communication and Computer Skills and Research Methods.

Business SubjectsEconomics at NUP is taught in conjunction with the business disciplines of finance, accounting, marketing and management and enables students to use economic reasoning considering the business context in which economic decisions are taken.

Economics SubjectsThe undergraduate programme in economics begins with a two-semester introductory sequence that explores theoretical and applied topics in microeconomics and macroeconomics. Additional training in microeconomics, macroeconomics, statistics, and econometrics follows in the subsequent years. Students have a choice of additional applied and advanced courses drawn from a menu that includes public economics, industrial organization, government regulation, labour economics, monetary economics, economic theory, economic development, international economics, health economics, urban and environmental economics, the economics of education, and other courses.

Free ElectivesStudents can take the necessary number of subjects across the university to complete the required credit units for the programme.

Stephen WanhillProfessor Stephen Wanhill is the founding professor of Tourism Economics at the University. Prof. Wanhill has held chairs in tourism at the Universities of Surrey, Cardiff, Bournemouth and Nottingham. He is the co-author of the acclaimed book of Tourism Principles and Practice, currently in its 3rd edition.

Nature of the ProgrammeThe objective of the undergraduate programme in Business Administration is to provide students with the knowledge and skills that are necessary for success in a fast changing, global business and economic environment. The programme curriculum covers the basic disciplines of management and allows deeper treatment in human resources management, marketing and international business. The programme uses a variety of pedagogical approaches to expose students to the problems they will face as managers, entrepreneurs and business leaders. The programme places a high priority on the integration of theory and practice and complements its emphasis on relevance in teaching with an emphasis on research, which is achieved through small projects from year 1, culminating with the compulsory research project in the fourth year of the programme.

Career ProspectsStudents who graduate from the course will have a solid understanding of the basic business disciplines as well as the economic, political, legal and environmental context in which the global practice of business is conducted. Students will have the opportunity to acquire specialised knowledge from the various concentrations, to enable them to successfully compete in their careers or to pursue graduate studies. Each graduate will have developed language and communications skills for coherent written statement and oral presentations and will be able to use quantitative reasoning and computer skills to formulate and solve business problems.

The advanced specialist subjects in these two areas are taught by lectures and case studies with specialist seminars taught by practitioners. Within the specialist areas students have the opportunity to explore marketing and management issues in the context of large and small business or in the context of service industries and tourism, areas of significant relevance for Cyprus.

John WestlakeProfessor John Westlake is the Professor of Tourism Management and Acting Dean of the Business School. Professor Westlake was a Professor of Tourism Management and Deputy Head of the Centre for Tourism Research at the University of Bournemouth from 1996 until 2007. Prior to that he was a Senior Lecturer at the University of Surrey.

Nature of the ProgrammeThe objective of the undergraduate programme in Accounting and Finance is to provide students with a good grounding of the various areas of the accounting profession, such as financial accounting, financial reporting, management accounting, and auditing and equip them not merely with the technical aspects of accounting, but also with an appreciation of the business human, social, legal, and environmental factors that affect the operation and performance of an organisation. The syllabus of the course reflects the subject areas for professional accreditation of different accounting bodies, and exemptions may be granted from professional exams. The programme emphasises transfer skills and graduates of the course will have the ability to work with the top management of an organisation and aquire the skills and practical experience to develop, monitor, and review a firm’s information and financial system.

Career ProspectsGraduates of the programme in Accounting and Finance will be well-grounded in accounting and finance and will have the requisite business knowledge and training to be able to work with business managers, marketing professionals, accountants, and others who depend on accounting professionals to provide management information and financial analysis. Business SubjectsAccounting and Finance at NUP is taught in conjunction with economics, operations, organisations behaviour, marketing and management so that the student gets both a good exposure of all the functional aspects of a business but also of the methods and techniques applied to assist correct managerial decision making.

Accounting and Finance SubjectsThe undergraduate programme in Accounting and Finance begins with introductory courses in finance, financial accounting and managerial accounting in the first and the second year, together with the statistical and computer modelling courses that are required for the most advanced treatment of accounting subjects. In later years, the programme develops further the finance aspects through both advanced topics in financial theory and by studying such applied subjects as Corporate Finance, Financial, Management, and International Financial Management. The advanced topics in accounting include, taxation, auditing, financial reporting and analysis, advanced management accounting, budgeting, and cost analysis.

Michailina SiakalliDr Michailina Siakalli has obtained her Ph.D. from the University of Sheffield after completing her BSc studies in Pure Mathematics at the University of Cyprus in 2003 and her MSc in Financial Mathematics at Cass Busi-ness School, City University

in 2004. Her research interests focus on stochastic differential equations (SDEs) driven by Levy processes, stability theory of SDEs and financial mathematics, op-tions and pricing.

Nature of the ProgrammeThe aim of the programme in Banking and Finance is to provide the necessary education, skills and values to students who seek a career in the financial services sector, in financial institutions, or in government. The course is designed to blend the specialised fields of banking, investments and finance with the general fields of business management and economics to ensure that students complement their in-depth analytical and professional understanding of financial issues with a wider business and economics education and recognition of the importance of ethical and professional standards. The programme develops over its duration a theoretical framework which is supplemented with practical applications and case studies.

Business School

Constantine MavroudisConstantine Mavroudis holds a Ph.D. in Financial Mathematics from the Department of Mathematics at Florida State University. He also holds a Master’s degree in Financial Mathematics from Florida State University and a Master’s degree in Economics & Finance from the

University of Edinburgh. In the past, he worked in the Scottish Parliament as the Economic Adviser of the SNP parliamentary group working closely with the shadow ministers of Economics and Finance. His research interests include Quantitative Portfolio Management, Mathematical Finance, Empirical Financial Economics, Evolutionary Portfolio Theory and Real Estate Finance & Investment.

Aims and ObjectivesThe MBA Programme provides a general management postgraduate and post-experience education for those aspiring to climb to or are already at senior management level in organisations and equip them to perform effectively in managerial positions. Accordingly, the aim is not to pursue an academic theoretical study, but rather to enable theory to inform practice. It is a living degree which utilises participants’ work experience, but at the same time instils new skills and provides new knowledge in a real-life business environment. Thus it will develop participants’ ability to make informed decisions about their practice, broaden and deepen understanding of business and management function and processes; foster skills of business research, analysis, synthesis and creativity so as to enhance decision-making and promote organisational well-being within the context of a continually changing and competitive business environment; encourage innovation and awareness of the role of information and technology in innovation; develop awareness of ethical, social, environmental and global issues affecting management decisions.

Programme StructureThe programme is made up of six core modules, which are common to all students, a dissertation and four electives that allow the student to specialize in a chosen field of study. The programme also aims to develop interpersonal skills and to this end students are divided into groups for group projects. Group projects are one of the methods of assessment in most modules. The MBA programme consists of three elements (see next page).

Aims and ObjectivesThe MSc in Banking, Investment and Finance aims to provide a sound understanding of the principles of financial theory and practice. The primary emphasis is to produce competent graduates who would be able to have a successful career in professional and academic posts related to finance disciplines, capital market activities or banking operations. The course itself combines both a strong academic and vocational element developed through case studies and individual research. The course provides a rigorous grounding in financial theory, financial analysis, economics and research methodologies and quantitative methods and allows students to develop a deeper knowledge of specific areas such as banking, investment management, corporate finance, and trading or risk management. The programme covers the syllabus of the CFA Institute and allows students to take the professional examinations whilst on the course.

Programme Structure The programme is made up of six core modules, a dissertation and five electives that allow the student to specialize in a chosen field of study. The core subjects equip students with the theoretical, technical and practical tools to tackle the more specialised material of the elective courses and the dissertation. Course DurationThe one-year programme runs from September to August. The two-year programme runs over a period of four terms.

Mode Of TeachingThe two-year programme is delivered by combining face-to- face tuition, with a variety of distance-learning sessions, video conferencing and web-based classes. Face-to-face tuition takes place at Neapolis on 9 extended weekends every year plus two one-week residential blocks each year. For the assigned weekends students will need to be available to attend classes as follows:

Friday 5pm – 8pmSaturday 8am – 6pmSunday 8am – 3pm

The learning platform of the programme aims to make full use of each participant’s time by combining traditional lectures, case studies, group projects and business simulations with a variety of distance-learning sessions. Over the course of the two year program, participants will attend on-campus modules for a total of sixty days and take part in over 150 distance-learning sessions. The curriculum is rigorous and rich in theory to prepare students for further graduate study, but at the same time flexible and practical for students to relate what they are taught to real world counterparts.

Kostas Giannopoulos Professor Giannopoulos is a Doctor laureate in Banking and Economics from the University of Siena. He also holds a Masters degree in Banking and Finance from the University of Wales and a PhD in Finance from the London Guildhall University. Over the past

twenty years. Professor Giannopoulos has been a consultant to various private and commercial banks, investment managers and regulatory organizations. He has been a frequent speaker at academic conferences and professional seminars in Europe and USA. Professor Giannopoulos has published over a dozen refereed papers in market risk management; option pricing; volatility characteristics and modelling; and international portfolio diversification.

TimetableEach weekend of delivery combines two or three courses so that delivery of a single course is not concentrated in one weekend. In addition, exams are conducted progressively throughout the scheduled weekends, not at a separate time. Due to this intensive delivery mode students are able to gain a real sense of achievement and progress.

Το Τμήμα Ψυχολογίας του Πανεπιστημίου Νεαπόλεως προσφέρει προγράμματα τόσο σε προ-πτυχιακό όσο και σε μεταπτυχιακό επίπεδο. Απώτερος στόχος των προγραμμάτων είναι αφενός η παροχή στους σπουδαστές των κατά πεδίο παλαιότερων και σύγχρονων θεωρητικών ερμηνειών της ανθρώπινης συμπεριφοράς, και αφετέρου η απόκτηση των αναγκαίων δεξιοτήτων στο πεδίο των εφαρμογών, σε συνδυασμό με την κατάρτισή τους στις μεθόδους έρευνας. Δεδομένου ότι το προ-πτυχιακό πρόγραμμα απευθύνεται σε υποψήφιους διαφορετικής εθνοτικής προέλευσης, θα καταβληθεί ιδιαίτερη μέριμνα για την υπέρβαση των πολιτισμικών και εθνοτικών διαφορών που σχετίζονται με τη μαθησιακή διαδικασία.

The department of Psychology at Neapolis University offers both bachelor and master programmes designed to produce graduates with theoretical and practical abilities, a solid grounding in research methods and an ability to function in an international climate. Unlike conservative parochial programmes, the innovative Neapolis University scheme will focus on a comparative international approach aiming to address and overcome cultural and ethnic differences in education, instruction and learning behaviours.

The bachelor programme is geared towards the inexperienced undergraduate, while the master programs offer several optional streams with and without thesis and practicum to accommodate both practitioners and non-practitioners and to afford teachers and educational administrators a suitable education.

Nature of the ProgrammeThe Bachelor of Science in Psychology programme focuses on the study of individuals and groups, including their behaviours, thought processes, and emotions. It seeks to provide students with an understanding of the cognitive and affective processes that underlie human experience and behaviour; the techniques by which behaviours are evaluated and modified; and the application of theoretical principles to solve behavioural problems. The programme covers the main specialisations in psychology, including education, family, sexuality; developmental disorders, group psychology and industrial and organizational psychology. Students will further be able to choose electives from a range of specialist areas, offered by other Departments of the University. As a teaching strategy, a combination of lectures, tutorials and use of audio – visual or visual material will be utilized. In all cases interaction with students and their active participation in the learning process will be fostered.

Career ProspectsThe programme produces graduates with a broad knowledge base of theory and research in psychological science, the ability to apply psychological principles for the improvement of individual, group and organizational environments and the skills required to work as entry level psychologists in jobs such as counselling and rehabilitation counselling; community, social, youth and welfare work; disability services and family therapy. The bachelor in psychology further prepares graduates for work in non- psychological settings which require insight and understanding of behaviour principles. These include: advertising, public relations, communication, health promotion, management consulting, market research and analysis.

AdmissionCandidates for the Programme in Psychology should have finished their secondary education in an accredited school and have good knowledge of English. The University uses a number of English language tests to assess the level of competence. Applicants for the Programme will need to take an entry test before they are admitted on the Programme.

Programme StructureThe undergraduate programme in Psychology consists of a general education element, a programme specific element and free electives. For the successful completion of their studies, undergraduate students need to satisfy the requirements of all elements.

General Education SubjectsThe purpose of the General Education subjects is to ensure that every graduate of NeapolisUniversity acquires the essential foundations for living a productive life, being a citizen of the world, appreciating aesthetic values, and engaging in life-long learning in a continually changing world. For this reason, the general education requirements provide breadth across the humanities and arts, social studies and sciences; competence in communication, critical thinking, analytical skills and research capabilities, appropriate for a university-educated person. Psychology SubjectsThe psychology subjects of the undergraduate programme span the entire spectrum of the field covering subjects in Clinical Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Counselling Psychology, Educational Psychology, Forensic Psychology, Organisational Psychology, Health Psychology, Neuropsychology, and Environmental Psychology. Particular emphasis is placed on laboratory and practical work while students undertake a year – long research project in the final year.

Maria StylianouDr Maria Stylianou has a Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology from the University of Liverpool, U.K. After completing her Ph.D., she was awarded a research fellowship position at the University of Central Lancashire in the area of social and emotional intelligence in lonely children. She continued on as a lecturer at the University of Central

Lancashire before returning to Cyprus. Her work in the private sector has focused on psychological assessments and evaluations for children with learning difficulties and other developmental delays, as well as on child behaviour management.

ΣτόχοιΟι στόχοι του μεταπτυχιακού προγράμματος Συμβουλευτικής Ψυχολογίας αντανακλούν αφενός τους σύγχρονους επιστημονικούς προβληματισμούς στο πιο πάνω πεδίο της Ψυχολογίας και αφετέρου τις ανάγκες της κοινωνίας και της αγοράς εργασίας για εξειδικευμένη γνώση, άμεσα σχετιζόμενη με εφαρμογές σε ποικίλα κοινωνικά, εκπαιδευτικά και επαγγελματικά πλαίσια. Η αναγκαιότητα ενός τέτοιου προγράμματος καθίσταται ολοένα και προφανέστερη στη σημερινή πολυπολιτισμική πραγματικότητα και στην συνεχώς επεκτεινόμενη παγκοσμιοποίηση της οικονομίας και της κοινωνίας.Το μεταπτυχιακό πρόγραμμα της Κατεύθυνσης Ι αποβλέπει ειδικότερα,• Στη διεύρυνση και εμπέδωση πειραματικά θεμελιωμένης γνώσης που αφορά στην ανθρώπινη ανάπτυξη και μάθηση και στη διασύνδεσή της με την συμβουλευτική διαδικασία κατά πλαίσιο.• Στην εκ μέρους των φοιτητών / φοιτητριών συνειδητοποίηση των πολιτισμικών, δεοντολογικών και κοινωνικών παραμέτρων που υπεισέρχονται στη συμβουλευτική πρακτική και έρευνα.• Στην απόκτηση συμβουλευτικών δεξιοτήτων εξειδικευμένων ως προς το πλαίσιο εφαρμογής τους.

Κριτήρια ΕισδοχήςΓια την εισδοχή στο πρόγραμμα προνοούνται τα εξής κριτήρια:

i. Κατοχή πτυχίου Ψυχολογίας από αναγνωρισμένα πανεπιστήμια της ημεδαπής ή αλλοδαπής. Για τα πτυχία Ψυχολογίας τα οποία απονεμήθηκαν από Πανεπιστημιακά Ιδρύματα εκτός Κύπρου και Ελλάδος απαιτείται βεβαίωση ισοτιμίας από το ΚΥΣΑΤΣ ή ΔΟΑΤΑΠ αντιστοίχως. ii. Δύο συστατικές επιστολές.iii. Η πιστοποιημένη γνώση μίας ξένης γλώσσας, κατά προτίμηση της Αγγλικής. iv. Συνέντευξη (αν κριθεί αναγκαίο).

ΔιάρκειαΗ φοίτηση στο Μεταπτυχιακό Πρόγραμμα Εκπαιδευτικής Ψυχολογίας διαρκεί έξι (6) ακαδημαϊκά εξάμηνα.

Πρακτική ΆσκησηΗ πρακτική άσκηση των μεταπτυχιακών φοιτητών/τριών της Κατεύθυνσης Ι (Συμβουλευτική Ψυχολογία) διαρκεί χίλιες (1000) ώρες και περιλαμβάνει εποπτευόμενη άσκηση σε εγγεκριμένους φορείς εποπτείας όπως ερευνητικά κέντρα, εκπαιδευτικές δομές και νοσοκομειακές μονάδες παροχής ψυχολογικής υποστήριξης σε προβλήματα και δυσκολίες προσαρμογής. Το ανώτερο χρονικό όριο της πρακτικής άσκησης ορίζεται στους 12 μήνες και πραγματοποιείται κατά το τρίτο έτος σπουδών σε δύο φάσεις (εξάμηνα 5 και 6).Δεδομένου ότι στον προγραμματισμό του Πανεπιστημίου της Νεάπολης εντάσσεται και η ίδρυση Κέντρου Συμβουλευτικής, αποστολή του οποίου θα είναι οι παρεμβάσεις σε ζητήματα σχετιζόμενα με τις διαδικασίες μάθησης και προσαρμογής στο σχολικό και το οικογενειακό πλαίσιο, η πρακτική άσκηση θα πραγματοποιείται, κυρίως, στο Κέντρο Συμβουλευτικής υπό την εποπτεία έμπειρου εγγεγραμμένου ψυχολόγου.

Άνεξάρτητη Ερευνητική Μελέτη Η πραγματοποίηση ανεξάρτητης ερευνητικής μελέτης προσφέρει στους φοιτητές/τριες τη δυνατότητα να αναπτύξουν δεξιότητες παραγωγής γνώσης. Οι φοιτητές πραγματοποιούν ουσιαστικά δύο ανεξάρτητες ερευνητικές μελέτες υπό την εποπτεία μέλους ΔΕΠ ή άλλου ερευνητικού διδακτικού προσωπικού καθώς τα ECTS κατανέμονται και στα τέσσερα εξάμηνα σπουδών για να υπάρχει ο απαραίτητος χρόνος οργάνωσης και πραγματοποίησης της μελέτης κάθε χρόνο. Η μελέτη μπορεί να πάρει διάφορες μορφές, όπως για παράδειγμα εμπειρική έρευνα/άρθρο, μελέτη περίπτωσης, έρευνα δράσης.

Panayiota KendeouDr. Kendeou is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at Neapolis University Pafos. She has a PhD in Educational Psychology with a minor in Statistics from the University of Minnesota, USA. Before joining Neapolis University, Dr. Kendeou worked at the

University of Minnesota, USA, at McGill University, Canada and at the Open University of Cyprus. Her research program focuses on the cognitive processes that support learning and memory in children and adults.

ΣτόχοιΗ ανθρώπινη ψυχολογική ανάπτυξη συνυφαίνεται με τις μεταβολές στο σύνολο των εκδηλώσεων της συμπεριφοράς. Οι μεταβολές αυτές, οφειλόμενες σε βιολογικούς και περιβαλλοντικούς (κυρίως κοινωνικούς) παράγοντες, αποκτούν συγκριτικά κρισιμότερη βαρύτητα στις αρχικές φάσεις της ανάπτυξης.

Η Κατεύθυνση της Εκπαιδευτικής Ψυχολογίας: Ανθρώπινη Ανάπτυξη και Μάθηση του Μάστερ Εκπαιδευτικής και Συμβουλευτικής ψυχολογίας αποβλέπει στη συστηματική προσέγγιση των διαστάσεων εκείνων της ανάπτυξης που σχετίζονται άμεσα με τη μάθηση στις κρίσιμες εξελικτικές φάσεις της προσχολικής και της σχολικής ηλικίας.Ως εκ του μαθησιακού του στόχου το πρόγραμμα απευθύνεται στους υπηρετούντες ή μέλλοντες να υπηρετήσουν στην πρωτοβάθμαια (προσχολική και σχολική) εκπαίδευση. Η Κατεύθυνση Εκπαιδευτικής Ψυχολογίας: Ανθρώπινη Ανάπτυξη και Μάθηση αποβλέπει ειδικότερα,

• στην εξοικείωση των μελλόντων να φοιτήσουν στο πρόγραμμα με τις αποκλίσεις της ανάπτυξης όπως αυτές παρατηρούνται στην προσχολική και σχολική ηλικία.

• στη γνώση του ευρέος φάσματος των μαθησιακών δυσκολιών, ώστε να καταστεί ευχερέστερος ο εντοπισμός περιπτώσεων οι οποίες χρήζουν συστηματικότερης αντιμετώπισης στο πλαίσιο των εκπαιδευτικών δομών.

Columbia University and at the University of Cyprus. Her research focuses on cognitive development and its educational implications.

ΣτόχοιΗ εφηβεία αποτελεί διακριτή περίοδο της ανθρώπινης ανάπτυξης η οποία, τόσο διαχρονικά όσο και (κατά κανόνα) διαπολιτισμικά εκλαμβάνεται ως μια εξελικτική φάση αμφισβητήσεων και δυσχερειών για τους ίδιους τους εφήβους, τους γονείς και τα πρόσωπα του ευρύτερου κοινωνικού τους περιβάλλοντος. Στον Δυτικό Πολιτισμό παρατεταμένη εφηβεία παρέχει στους νέους πολλαπλές ευκαιρίες να πειραματιστούν με ποικίλες μορφές ενήλικης συμπεριφοράς χωρίς να αναλαμβάνουν αντίστοιχες ευθύνες. Ταυτόχρονα, η ανάγκη των εφήβων για ανεξαρτησία δημιουργεί συγκρούσεις με τα πρόσωπα εξουσίας στο οικογενειακό και σχολικό πλαίσιο. Οι συγκρούσεις αυτές οδηγούν ορισμένες φορές στην υιοθέτηση παραβατικής συμπεριφοράς, η ερμηνεία και η αντιμετώπιση της οποίας προϋποθέτει τη θεμελιωμένη γνώση των βιο-κοινωνικών και ψυχολογικών διαστάσεων της εφηβείας. Η Κατεύθυνση της Εκπαιδευτικής Ψυχολογίας: Ψυχολογικές και Συμπεριφορικές Διαστάσεις της Εφηβείας του Μαστερ Εκπαιδευτικής και Συμβουλευτικής Ψυχολογίας απευθύνεται στους (εν ενεργεία ή εν δυνάμει) εκπαιδευτικούς των Γυμνασίων και των Λυκείων, οι οποίοι έρχονται σε καθημερινή επικοινωνία με τους εφήβους και αποσκοπεί στην κατάρτιση των διδασκόντων/ουσών σε ευρύ φάσμα ψυχολογικών και συμπεριφορικών εκδηλώσεων οι οποίες χαρακτηρίζουν την εφηβεία. Ειδικότερα, στοχεύει στην εκ μέρους των μεταπτυχιακών φοιτητών/τριών κατανόηση:

• του Βιοκοινωνικού Πλαισίου ανάπτυξης κατά τα εφηβικά χρόνια, των σχετικών ερμηνευτικών προσεγγίσεων και των προεκτάσεών τους στο εκπαιδευτικό σύστημα.

• των ερμηνευτικών προσεγγίσεων της μάθησης και των εκπαιδευτικών τους εφαρμογών, όπως αυτές εξειδικεύονται κατά τη φάση της εφηβείας.

• της ψυχολογικής ανάπτυξης κατά πεδίο με έμφαση στις γνωστικές συναισθηματικές και κοινωνικές διαστάσεις της μέσα από το πρίσμα των επικρατέστερων ερμηνειών.

• των αποκλίσεων της ανάπτυξης κατά την εφηβεία, με έμφαση στις διαταραχές του συναισθηματικού φάσματος.

• των διεπιστημονικών προσεγγίσεων του σύνθετου φαινομένου της εμπλαισιωμένης παραβατικότητας, με εστίαση στις ψυχολογικές και κοινωνικές παραμέτρους που το ορίζουν.

Διάρκεια ΣπουδώνΗ φοίτηση στο Μεταπτυχιακό Πρόγραμμα στην Ψυχολογία της Εφηβείας διαρκεί τέσσερα ακαδημαϊκά εξάμηνα. Περαιτέρω παράταση ενός εξαμήνου χορηγείται μόνο για σοβαρούς λόγους.Το πρώτο εξάμηνο αποσκοπεί στην παροχή της αναγκαίας για την επιτυχή παρακολούθηση του υπόλοιπου προγράμματος ψυχολογικής γνώσης.


i. Κατοχή πτυχίου σε μία από τις ειδικότητες της Β/θμιας εκπαίδευσης από αναγνωρισμένα πανεπιστήμια της ημεδαπής ή αλλοδαπής. Για τους μη διορισμένους εκπαιδευτικούς της B/θμιας εκπαίδευσης, κατόχους πτυχίου πανεπιστημιακών ιδρυμάτων εκτός Κύπρου και Ελλάδος απαιτείται βεβαίωση ισοτιμίας από το ΚΥΣΑΤΣ και ΔΟΑΤΑΠ αντιστοίχως. ii. Olga Solomontos KountouriDr. Solomontos-Kountouri is a Lecturer in the Department of Psychology at Neapolis University Paphos. She holds a PhD in Developmental Psychology from the Institute of Education, University of London. She had taught at the Institute of Education, University of London.

Her research interests focus on adolescents’ identity development in different contexts and particularly in the domains of politics, religion, occupation, and gender roles.

Nature of the ProgrammeThe Bachelor of Architecture is a four-year degree that provides students with all the necessary knowledge and skills required to become modern architects. The programme is centred on a series of design studios for all four years, and it covers a wide spectrum of topics in history and theory of architecture, technology, and means of representation. The Bachelor of Architecture degree does not lead to professional accreditation and students need to complete the Diploma in Architecture degree for professional accreditation. The main aim of the Bachelor of Architecture programme is to provide students with a thorough foundation of the many aspects that make up the discipline of architecture and equip them with professional knowledge, critical skills and cognitive independence for successful careers. The programme provides students with design, communication, graphic, modelling and computational skills and hands on experience of architectural technologies to enable them to provide innovative solutions to architectural challenges. The programme places a high priority on the integration of theory and practice, and balances the aesthetic with the functional and the humanistic with the technological aspects of architecture.

Career ProspectsThe Bachelor of Architecture by itself does not lead to professional recognition. To become a professional architect, students must complete this degree followed by the Diploma of Architecture (an additional year of full-time study or equivalent).Students who have successfully completed this course may proceed to the Diploma of Architecture as continuing students, provided they enrol in the next academic year after the award of the degree, or seek leave of absence for no longer than one academic year after the award.

Admission Admission to the degree of Bachelor of Architecture is based on formal academic qualifications. Candidates should have a leaving qualification from a recognised secondary education establishment. Students should have a good background in mathematics, physics, visual arts, design, and history. All applicants submit a comprehensive portfolio containing the completed application form, academic record, extra-curricular experiences, employment record, and samples of design/art abilities. Students do need to submit a portfolio, but because, Architecture is a design-oriented course, most candidates will be asked to supply samples of their drawings by post.

Programme StructureThe Bachelor of Architecture is a four-year degree which consists of four main themes: Design, History and Theory of Architecture, Technology, and Professional Practice.

In the first year of their study, students gain knowledge, skills and experience. They have the opportunity to develop their architectural creativity through design projects. The emphasis is on helping them to develop a way of thinking, working as an individual designer with an understanding of spatial experience. They learn to think in three dimensions and to scale by sketching, drawing and modeling their ideas both digitally and by hand. The objective of this unit is to develop the architectural thought of the students, that is to acquire ‘eyes that see’ space. The courses are organized around a combination of design studios, history and theory courses, and technical and media of representation studies.

In year two, skills acquired in the first year are developed more fully and applied in a series of design projects of increasing complexity. The technology of building becomes an inherent part of each design. The design tasks require the resolution of more complex problems and on greater scale, and theoretical issues raise questions about the architectural expression of the public domain.The third semester (autumn) has as specific issue the public domain via the design of a small scale public building, while the fourth semester (spring) is focused on Urban design and Bioclimatic Architecture.

In year three students identify what contemporary architecture means to them and establish their theoretical position through a variety of projects. During the fifth semester the main issue is restoration-rehabilitation, while the sixth semester focuses on Urban Planning and Landscape Design.In parallel with the studio work, further skills are developed through taught courses in History and Theory, Technical and Media Studies. Each of these makes a valuable contribution to the studio work but is examined separately. The fourth year of the programme offers students the opportunity to extend their design skills with a rigorous creative studio environment, as well as explore architecture as a response to the contemporary city. Students are expected to apply and combine all the knowledge acquired so far in topics like architectural design, technology of buildings, theory of architecture and human sciences. Students begin to be orientated to special fields of architecture as bioclimatic architecture, landscape and urbanism, conservation of historic buildings and sites, which will lead to their specialization by the selection of a specific topic in their diploma thesis and research paper.

Programme Learning OutcomesBy the end of their studies students will acquire:

• Ability to create architectural designs in all scales, from the building to the landscape and urban design

• Adequate knowledge of the history of architecture, art and theories of architecture

• Fine arts abilities which influence the quality of students’ architectural proposals

• Adequate knowledge and sensibility on environmental design and bioclimatic architecture, and the skills involved in the planning process

• Adequate knowledge of conservation and rehabilitation of historical buildings and sites, and respect to the local civilization

Evanthia Dova

Bachelor of Architecture

Evanthia Dova has a Master’s Degree from the Yale University School of Architecture. She has worked in architectural offices in both Greece and the U.S.A. and has participated in educational programmes, exhibitions and conferences in Greece and abroad.

Since 2004, she has been working as a lecturer at the School of Architecture, Faculty of Engineering, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and during the last two years she has been also teaching architectural design and synthesis at the School of Architecture, Polytechnic University of Crete.

Nature of the Programme

The Diploma in Architecture programme is designed for those who wish to earn a professional accredited degree in Architecture. It is a focused, professional degree which qualifies graduates to pursue licensure with the Cyprus Technical Chamber as registered architects and it is open to candidates who have earned the equivalent of a four – year undergraduate degree in Architecture. The programme comprises a number of core and elective modules, a dissertation and a design thesis so that students develop both their research and design skills through independent supervised work. An innovative feature of the programme is the ability to select a specialisation path that deepens their understanding in one particular area. The course aims, beyond the provision of discipline-specific skills to equip students with generic skills that would allow them to work collaboratively in local and international architectural practices of differing scale, structure and operation, to critically analyse, evaluate, question and engage in informed argument, to communicate ideas effectively, to put forward accurate and persuasive architectural proposals, and to apply ethical, environmental, cultural, aesthetic and technological considerations in architectural practice.

Career Prospects Graduates of the programme will be able to work as architects in private practice, government organisations, commercial companies or contracting organisations. The programme equips students with research skills for graduate work and research. Professional accreditation allows students to work not only in Cyprus but also in Europe or overseas.

Admission Candidates should have successfully completed the Bachelor of Architecture or its equivalent as judged by the Admissions Office. Students applying from other institutions, or NUP Bachelor of Architecture graduates not proceeding directly to this course, must apply through the Undergraduate School. Students from other institutions must also submit a portfolio of their architectural projects from previous studies.

Programme StructureThis course comprises 60 ECTS, of which the Dissertation and the Thesis account for 30 ECTS, and the seminars and lectures account for 30 ECTS. During the first semester, students take an architectural design module (ARCH500) and a related seminar course (ARCH510). These two modules aim to develop specialist architectural skills in one of the programme’s areas of specialisation. Currently the programme offers the following four areas of specialisation:•Architectural Design •Landscape Urbanism •Bioclimatic architecture and Sustainable development•Conservation-Rehabilitation of Historical Buildings and Sites

In addition all students also take a seminar in Real Estate Development and two electives. The electives are designed to deepen the knowledge and skills of the student in areas related to the design studio choice.Students in the first semester follow ARCH520 to help them start work on their Dissertation with the objective of conducting an original and supervised investigation in any area from Theory and History to Technology and Media or a combination of areas. The research continues in the second semester and a final report of 10,000 words should be submitted. The second element in the second semester is the Diploma Thesis. The Diploma Thesis is the culmination of a student’s experience and is the work that allows students to express their ideas, knowledge and skills in an integrated design project under the guidance of the academic staff of the School.

Leventis Scholarship programs and a member of the All American Scholar Association. Her academic and research interests include bioclimatic and sustainble architecture and management, urban planning, historic preservation, architectural drawing and drafting, as well as fine arts.

Nature of the Programme The undergraduate programme in Real Estate Development, Valuation and Management is the first programme in Cyprus in the field of real estate. The programme offers a comprehensive curriculum that combines academic rigour with practical experience and serves as the ideal foundation for a successful career in real estate related industries. The aim of the programme is to produce highly skilled professionals for one of the biggest industries internationally by equipping students with a qualification recognised and sought after by employers, and professional and industry bodies.

Career ProspectsGraduates of the course will be able to work in corporate real estate, property analysis, property and asset management, property development, property finance, property research, property sales and acquisitions, real estate agency (sales/leasing), tenant advisory services and valuation, mortgage banking and institutional lending, real estate brokerage and leasing, appraisal and investment consulting, real estate investment and development activities or pursue real estate positions within government agencies. Graduates of the course will be able to register with the Cyprus Technical Chamber. Once the programme has run for 2 or 3 years, recognition will be sought from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).

AdmissionCandidates for the Programme in Real Estate Development, Valuation and Management should have finished their secondary education in an accredited school and have good knowledge of English. The University uses a number of English language tests to assess the level of competence. Applicants for the Programme will need to take an entry test before they are admitted on the Programme.

Business SubjectsReal Estate students at NUP receive a good exposure to the business aspects of the real estate industry by taking subjects in economics, finance, accounting, marketing and management that enable students to appreciate the business context in which the real estate industry operates and to acquire the tools of economic and financial analysis.

Architecture and Construction SubjectsA unique feature of the undergraduate programme in Real Estate is the exposure of students to architectural and construction technology subjects. Students will learn the fundamentals of construction technology, architectural drawing, computer aided design and Geographical Information Systems.

Real Estate SubjectsThe undergraduate programme covers all the three aspects of the real estate industry through the study of advanced subjects. Students will use economic, statistical and financial theory to cover advanced topics in real estate valuation, funding and investment management theory for real estate management, marketing and strategy, and project management and construction management techniques to evaluate and execute real estate development plans. Students in the fourth year have to do both a research project and a practical development project in order to gain practical experience and develop their research skills.

Bachelor of Science in Quantity Surveying and Construction Management

Nature of the ProgrammeQuantity Surveyors are the cost managers of the construction industry, advising on technical, economic and legal issues, and are therefore key professionals in the construction industry. The Bachelor of Quantity Surveying and Construction Management is one of the few programmes in Cyprus that aim to produce graduates capable of working in this discipline. This programme is scheduled to begin in September 2011. The aim of the programme is to meet requirements for professional accreditation of our graduates as Quantity Surveyors but also to provide broader skills and a knowledge base in all aspects of the construction process, including business management, construction technology, project management, financial management, and property development that would allow students to diversify into construction, real estate and project management.

Career ProspectsThe programne prepares graduates to occupy management positions in the construction or real estate and related industries as construction managers, contract managers, cost engineers, estimators, facility managers, project managers, property developers, quantity surveyor, scheduler or site manager. Graduates can work in the public sector or for an architect, building proprietor, contractor, and developer or be self-employed entrepreneurs. Graduates of the programme will be able to register with the Cyprus Technical Chamber as Quantity Surveyors. Recognition from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) will also be pursued.

AdmissionCandidates for the Programme in Quantity Surveying and Construction Management should have finished their secondary education in an accredited school and have good knowledge of English. The University uses a number of English language tests to assess the level of competence. Applicants for the Programme will need to take an entry test before they are admitted on the Programme.

Yiannis BellosDr Yiannis Bellos is an Assistant Professor of Structural Design and Construction Technology in the School of Architecture, Land and Environmental Sciences and the Director of Information and Learning Services of the University. Dr Bellos has a Ph.D in Structural Engineering

Aims and Objectives The Master of Advanced Architectural Studies is a post-professional programme mainly for qualified architects who wish to enhance their level of analytical knowledge and skills and get a deeper understanding of a special area. All students follow a course in advanced design together with an accompanying seminar and topics in architectural theory. The programme provides students with the opportunity to explore recent developments in architectural thinking and design technologies and enhances their ability to deliver high-quality design and analytical work in the area of their choice. In particular, the curriculum allows students to specialise in the following four areas:

Advanced Architectural Design The programme investigates innovative approaches to architectural design, exploring the relationships between space, buildings, culture, science and an avalanche of technical advances. The course covers methodologies, ideologies, design theory and practice, and interdisciplinary approaches. The aim of the programme is to critically examine the co-evolution of design along with the wider scientific, technological and economical processes shaping buildings, landscapes and cities. The programme aims at providing students the opportunity to investigate in-depth a series of design problems, integrating advanced technological and design issues together with concep-tual, aesthetic and artistic concerns. Students will be introduced to working with information and data flow and will explore the concepts of parametric design. Students will also be encouraged to explore the new media on design, representation and fabrication.

Environmental ArchitectureThe aim of this programme is to provide students with the philosophy/theory, history, and best practices underpinning innovations in sustainability/high performance/green buildings and help them understand and apply the principles of conceptual formulation, form, structure and materiality, construction details, and sustainable techniques governed by environmental design and management.The course examines also current theoretical and scientific issues pertaining to bioclimatic and sustainable architecture, and provides a review of advances in material sciences and construction techniques as they pertain to environmental design.

Landscape UrbanismThe programme explores innovative approaches to design and intervention in the city, investigating the relationships between built form, space, culture, development processes and sustainability. The course covers methodologies, urban ideologies, design theory and practice, and urban features. The aim of the programme is to critically examine the co-evolution of design and development strategies and the wider social, economic and environmental processes shaping buildings, neighbourhoods, public spaces and cities.Within this context, the programme focuses on new material interventions (urban strategy, landscape ecology, tools of digital design, thoughts of political ecology) that operate within an urbanism conceived as a social, material, and ecological system, which is continually modulated by the spatial and temporal forces in which it is networked. It also examines the impact of urbanisation on the coastal zone in Cyprus.

Landscape ArchitectureThis programme is addressed not only to architects but also graduates of related disciplines that want to specialize in Landscape Architecture. It focuses on the human environments and the basic elements they are composed of, and explores design theories and principles, as well as appropriate analysis and evaluation processes. Within this context, the programme provides a historic overview of the evolution of Landscape Architecture theory and practice and noteworthy examples of historic and contemporary work.The programme projects the significance of good landscapes into the human environment and the opposite, that is, the significance of human environments into the natural landscape, and emphasizes the importance of the principles of sustainability and the respect of the natural and human environment, as well as the ecology, in shaping the landscape design process in urban, suburban or natural environments. Teaching and Learning MethodologyTeaching and learning methods vary across modules but the core learning environment in the first and the second year of the programme are the two Advanced Design Studios supported by related seminars. All students need to take the Advances in Architecture Seminar where visiting Architects will present to students modern developments in the discipline of architecture. Students will need to take a non-core seminar in another of the special areas offered. The Graduate Thesis is an original piece of work which could be design or research-based.

AssessmentThe design studio work will be evaluated both in terms of progress and in terms of the final design produced. The seminar modules will be assessed individually, through coursework, such as submission of reports and presentations, and/or formal written examination. The Thesis will be assessed on the basis of the submitted work.

Levels of AwardOn successful completion of the Master, students may be awarded a distinction, merit or pass.

Programme StructureThe Master of Science Programme in Construction Management can be taken over a period of 12 months for the One-Year Programme or over a period of 24 months for the Two-Year Programme. Both versions of the programme start with an optional pre-course, designed for incoming students who have less of a finance, economics, accounting and spreadsheet background than the average student in their class. The purpose of the pre-course is to ensure that students are fully prepared to follow the MSc programme. In the first semester, depending on their background, students take either finance/economics and accounting courses or technology courses. This will ensure that all students have reached the same level of knowledge in all the underlying disciplines of the programme.

Course Duration The one-year programme runs from September to August. The two-year programme runs over a period of four terms.

Aims and ObjectivesThe mission of the master’s programme in project and Construction Management is to provide a programme of advanced study designed to serve the managerial needs of the construction industry. The programme is designed to accommodate both graduates of “technical” degrees as well as those from business or economics backgrounds by offering appropriate remedial technical modules. The programme is intended for entry-level managers, project engineers, and related supervisory personnel who are interested in broadening their construction management knowledge base, sharpen their management acumen, and ready themselves for advancement opportunities and leadership positions within the construction industry.

The programme increases the student’s understanding of the complete construction industry including state-of-the-art processes, production techniques, design functions, research applications, management methods and leadership skills. Aims and ObjectivesThe Master of Science programme in Real Estate will be the first dedicated postgraduate programme in real estate in Cyprus. The programme adopts a multi-disciplinary, integrated approach to the study of real estate and its curriculum is designed to significantly enhance the student’s knowledge regarding all aspects of the industry and how it functions covering a number of diverse but essential topics such as valuation, financing, investment, development, law and management.

The course is based on academic rigour without sacrificing the applied nature and vocational character of a real estate programme. This balance is achieved by mixing the finance and management modules of the programme with applied modules in law, real estate development and management. The real estate development studio brings together all the aspects of the programme in a whole-term case study of a real-life development.

Career ProspectsThe programme is appropriate for people seeking leading positions in real estate development and investment, property analysis and valuation, property and asset management, property development, property finance, property research, property sales and acquisitions, real estate agency (sales/leasing), tenant advisory services, mortgage banking and institutional lending, real estate brokerage and leasing, appraisal and investment consulting, or real estate positions within government agencies. It also provides valuable education to those seeking a broader base to careers in property development, urban planning and facilities management.

Programme StructureTo qualify for the Master in Real Estate program students will be required to complete a programme of study totalling 120 ECTS over 24 months. The programme employs a blended-delivery model that incorporates on-line, classroom and resident instruction. The programme operates in two 9-month periods (18 months of instruction with a summer break in between the first and second years). Courses are delivered during weekends once a month during the Autumn and the Winter Semesters. The course incorporates two strong components of applied nature. The first component is the practicum, where students are required to examine a particular real estate project mostly from market analysis and valuation perspective and deliver a professionally written report. This module will be completed during the first summer term and its main objective is to give students the opportunity to apply the knowledge, concepts, methodological approaches and analytical tools taught in various relevant courses during the first academic year of the programme and teach them how to produce a professional valuation report. The second component of the programme of strong applied nature is the Real Estate Development Practice studio, which brings together all the aspects of the programme in a whole-term case study of a real-life development where students will examine an actual real estate development project from start to end including, site planning and design, market analysis, feasibility study, construction scheduling and development. The completion of a dissertation is also required during the summer period following the fourth semester.

Course Duration The two-year programme runs over a period of four terms with two summer terms used for the completion of the Practicum and the dissertation.

Phoebus J. Dhrymes is the head of the Graduate School and Distinguished Professor of Economics. He is currently the Edwin P. Rickert Professor of Economics at Columbia University and will be joining the University in the sum-mer 2010. His main research interests are in the area of econometrics and he has written a number of acclaimed textbooks as well as publishing in top economic journals.

The Doctoral programme of the University is designed to prepare men and women of outstanding ability for careers in teaching and research at the university level. Individuals who undertake doctoral study are expected to achieve excellence in the command of the theoretical and technical aspects of their discipline and to develop expertise in the conduct of meaningful research, in terms of their ability to analyse complex problems and synthesize solutions.

As a research – led University we place considerable emphasis on the smooth operation of our Doctoral Programme and we have instituted an administrative structure that reflects our philosophy and facilitates the creation of a research culture.

Course RequirementsIn order to complete the Doctoral programme, a student must in chronological order:

• Complete the Programme’s prescribed first year training requirements and the Comprehensive Research Proposal;

• Pass the Comprehensive Examination in Semester 3;• Present a research seminar in the second year of his/her

study;• Present a Journal Paper in the third year of his/her study and

her study;• Pass the Viva Voce Examination.

Course StructureThe PhD programme is made up of two distinct but complementary components which run throughout the duration of the course, although with varying degree of importance. The training component of the PhD programme is designed to provide the student with research skills that would allow him/her to become an effective and independent researcher, to fill gaps in the knowledge of his/her field of chosen research, to expose him to good practice regarding writing and publishing research and to prepare him/her for a teaching career.

Centre for Real EstateThe Neapolis University Real Estate Centre (NUP REC) aspires to become a focal point for excellence in real estate research in Cyprus and the Eastern Mediterranean region. Real Estate is one of the most important economic sectors not only in Cyprus but also internationally. Within this context, the Centre’s mission is to elaborate and advance knowledge on theoretical and applied is-sues that are important to both the academic and professional real estate community, locally and regionally, through research reports, conferences and other publications and activities.

Centre for International Tourism Research The Centre for International Tourism Research (CITR) undertakes interdisciplinary research and training related to tourism and acts as a vehicle for staff, research students and associates to undertake both applied and academic tourism related research. The Centre communicates new findings on tourism research to tourism industry partners, government and the local authorities and helps formulate public-and private-sector policies that will lead to improvement in tourism planning and development. The research themes of the Centre are:

1. Strategic Destination Planning, Management and Marketing including the evaluation of tourism ‘master plans’ and sector and product development strategies. 2. Analysis of Tourism Impacts, including the economic and social analysis of major events and the identification and forecasting of the outcomes of proposed tourist developments. 3. The Centre for Development and LearningThe Centre for Development and Learning focuses on cognitive, behavioural and verbal development of children in educational as well as home environments. The centre promotes research into areas such as Early Language Acquisition; Learning Disabilities; ADD & ADHD, etc. Several academic programs are offered at bachelor and master level to address development in normative and special educational settings in collaboration with the Department of Oc-cupational Therapy and the planned centre for Speech Therapy.

The Eastern Mediterranean Research InstituteThe Eastern Mediterranean Research Institute aims to study health, environmental and social topics that affect and shape the region and its populations.Of particular interest are multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary studies that examine interactions of natural and man made environments, such as the effects of tourism on shorelines water balance in this essentially arid region, the impact of human activity on coastal and shoreline environments; the encroachment of urbanization on wildlife and the resurgence of infectious zoonotic risk as a result of climate change. In its focus on chronic disease, the institute studies needs for community and clinical aspects of physical and nutritional rehabilitation as an outcome of retirement sunbelt migration to the Eastern Mediterranean.To facilitate research initiation, the EMRI maintains seed funding for research proposal writing and develops suitable research commissions and boards to determine fund allocation and maintenance. As the dedicated research entity of the university, the EMRI maintains all university research capabilities, acts as a methodological service provider for faculty and graduate students, acts as the clearing house for all undergraduate methodology courses and provides appropriate support and supervision.

Professor Andreas Komodromos is the Founding Professor of Environmental Sciences and Dean of the School of Architecture, Land, and Environmental Sciences. Dr Komodromos has studied in Germany and has taught in Greece, Cyprus and Germany. Prior to joining NUP Dr Komodromos was professor of Environmental Geotechnics at the University of Hannover.

Accommodation and Student ServicesNeapolis University students have both on-campus and off-campus accommodation options.
