A message from our Chaplain....

The crucial question is, “Which are you feeding today.” I know this question doesn’t really make sense right now. But read the following story and come back to the question.

One evening an old Cherokee Indian told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people. He said, ‘My son, the battle is between two ‘wolves’ inside us all.

One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.

The other is good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith.’

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: ‘Which wolf wins?’

The old Cherokee simply replied, ‘The one you feed.’

This story made such an impact on me when I read it the first time. It is so simple and yet so true. I think each and every person has these two wolves running around inside them. The Evil wolf, or the Good Wolf, is fed daily by the choices we make with our thoughts and behaviour. What we think about and dwell upon will in a sense appear in our lives and influence our behaviour.

So, once again we have a choice:

We can feed the Good Wolf and it will show up in our character, habits and behaviour positively. Or:

We can feed the Evil Wolf and our whole world will turn negative: like poison, this will slowly eat away at our soul.

The crucial question is, “Which are you feeding today.”

May we continue to be influenced positively by the good wolf and may that show in our College, families and personal daily lives.

Blessings Rev Willie

UIL Visitor Group

The College has taken on an even more distinctly international flavour this week with the arrival of a group of fourteen students from China, for a stay of two weeks. The students come from a school attached to the South China Normal University, and are aged from 11-13 years. Their visit has been arranged by one of our international education agencies, UIL, and the students are accompanied by two UIL staff as well as a teacher from SCNU.

Although the SCNU students are participating in a parallel teaching programme in one of our spare classrooms, they are combining with our Years 5 and 6 students for a range of lessons including PE, Art, Music and Technology. In addition, there is plenty of inter-cultural understanding being developed in the Dining Room, the playground and the boarding houses (where the Chinese students are staying).

The SCNU students already speak quite good English: however, I am sure they will go home with a vocabulary that has been enhanced with some peculiarly Australian expressions.

I have been very proud of the warm welcome that has been extended by the staff and students of SCOTS PGC and feel confident that, as we host more such visiting groups in the future, it will be of real benefit to all concerned.

Photo take by Nancy Li from UIL.

SCOTS PGC College combine training and eventing riders shine at IQ State Championships

This year’s Interschool Queensland State eventing and combined training championships were held at the Burpengary Equestrian Centre. The grounds were in magnificent condition when we arrived, enjoying unseasonally warm weather. The College was represented by 10 of our students over the weekend, who will perform extremely well in very strong competition. The combined training championships were held on the Saturday, along with all of the dressage and some of the showjumping for the eventing classes. At the end of Saturday’s competition our combined training riders had excelled and as a result of their performances our CT team of Kate Johnstone, Jasmine Alexanderson, Jedd Johnstone and Kate Sexton were named overall Secondary team for 2016, beating 10 other teams for this position.
