In my role as Executive Director of the Alumni/Foundation, I have the opportunity to meet many past graduates of NDSCS at events across the state of North Dakota and the nation. At just about every one of the events, I hear a story or two about how the College helped the alum build their leadership skills. So it is with great pleasure that I’m able to announce to all of our alumni and friends receiving this year’s Alumni Review that we have created an NDSCS Leadership Fund with the net proceeds from this year’s DREAMS Auction, see page 5. We were also able to access a special North Dakota Challenge Grant matching fund to receive $1 for every $2 donated. To learn more about this Challenge Grant opportunity for your donations, please check out the article on page 10 of this issue or visit our website at www.ndscsalumni.com.

This fund will create leadership training and educational opportunities for many on campus, but especially for a group of students that we are calling the NDSCS Ambassadors! This group of young men and women will be selected annually from nominations from faculty and staff, and will participate in leadership training

events as well as demonstrate their leadership ability at many events during the school year as Ambassadors for the College. It is our goal to continue to receive donations to the NDSCS Leadership Fund and to expand the opportunities for leadership development to many more students in the future, so if you have questions or would like to contribute, just give me a call or send me an email.

You will find many stories of our Alumni Awards winners as well as spotlights on other alums in this issue. Check out the 2014 Homecoming Schedule on page 16-17 and plan a trip back to NDSCS for the weekend! Congratulations to Madeline Miller and the late Daryl Miller family

for being honored with the 2014 Family Tradition Award! The Miller family has a long history with NDSCS, going back to the College’s beginnings when Daryl Miller’s grandmother attended what was then Red River College and eventually became a teacher. Many of Madeline’s family members have attended NDSCS through the years, including her brother, two of her children, her daughter-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, many cousins and many nieces and nephews.

Madeline enjoyed her time at NDSCS during the 1940s, at which time the College had an enrollment of approximately 700 students. Madeline had the opportunity to work for Wally Nordgaard, who was the Registrar at the time. She says she learned much from Mr. Nordgaard but definitely learned respect

for the individual in the way he treated all people the same. Madeline also tells the story of her late daughter, Gayle, who attended NDSCS before transferring to a chiropractic college. One of the instructors was impressed by Gayle’s knowledge of chemistry and asked her where she earned her chemistry degree. Gayle replied that she did not have a degree and had only

taken one year of chemistry at NDSSS. The instructor replied, “That must have been some college and some instructor!”

Madeline says she has seen many young people over the years attend prestigious colleges far from Wahpeton and graduate with large student loans then have a hard time finding a job. She said that doesn’t seem to be a problem at NDSCS, where students often find jobs before they graduate. Madeline said, “I even had a job offer one month before I graduated from Science! On graduation day, the ceremony was in the morning and I ate lunch and went to work after lunch.”

The NDSCS Foundation is pleased to honor the Madeline Miller and late Daryl Miller family with the Family Tradition Award.

Alumnus of the Year TIM PURDONA native of Ashby, Minn., Tim Purdon

attended NDSCS and graduated with an associate degree in liberal arts in 1989. Tim was the recipient of a President’s Scholarship and was on the President’s Honor Roll the entire two years he was at NDSCS.

While at NDSCS, Tim was a fixture at the Clair T. Blikre Activities Center. Working for Athletic Director Don Engen, Tim spent many nights supervising student use of the facility. He also served as the “Voice of the Wildcats,” as the public address announcer for the women’s basketball and volleyball games. Tim also worked at Wildcat men’s basketball games and wrestling matches and many high school basketball tournaments as the scoreboard and clock operator. With the help of legendary NDSCS men’s track and field coach Owen “O.J.” Jensen, Tim became a certified USA Track & Field official during his time in Wahpeton and worked many high school and college track meets at NDSCS as the official starter. Tim ran track (steeplechase) for the Wildcats during his freshman year and participated in all intramural sports.

Tim went on to attend Minnesota State University Moorhead and received his Bachelor of Arts in English, graduating summa cum laude in 1991. He graduated cum laude from the Hamline University School of Law in 1994. Following law school, Tim clerked for the Hon. Bruce M. Van Sickle, United States District Court, District of North Dakota in Bismarck.

On February 4, 2010 Tim was nominated by President Barack Obama to serve as United States Attorney for the District of North Dakota. Tim’s nomination was unanimously confirmed by the United States Senate on August 5, 2010. He is North Dakota’s 18th U.S. Attorney. As U.S. Attorney, Tim has placed special emphasis on increasing public safety on the American Indian reservations in North Dakota, ensuring national security and law enforcement cooperation along North Dakota’s international border with Canada and working with federal, state, local and tribal law enforcement partners to counter the new threat from organized criminal enterprises that have targeted western North Dakota’s Bakken oil boom region.

Prior to becoming U.S. Attorney, Tim practiced law at the Vogel Law Firm in Bismarck, N.D. Prior to joining the Vogel Law Firm in 2005, Tim practiced for nine years at the Bismarck firm of Dickson & Purdon.

Attending NDSCS has been a family affair for Tim’s family as his sister, Barb, graduated from NDSCS in 1991 and also worked for the Wildcat athletic department during her time in Wahpeton. Tim’s parents are Larry and Nancy Purdon of Ashby, Minn. Tim is married to Bismarck attorney Carmen Miller, who works for Ducks Unlimited. Tim and Carmen have a daughter, Claudia.

Jim Johnson joined NDSCS in the fall of 2003. As an Enrollment Services

Representative, Jim serves the College regionally, living and working in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minn. Jim is well respected by the stakeholders with whom he works. He is extremely passionate about seeing students succeed, he is enthusiastic and always has his “customer’s” best interest in mind. As he says, “I get to work for NDSCS and what an honor it is. It’s an absolute joy to tell the magnificent story of an institution that has been actively involved in truly changing lives for over 110 years!”

Clearly, Jim’s efforts in telling the NDSCS story are working! Each year, the College is seeing more students from the Twin Cities area who enroll at NDSCS and then go on to successful careers in business and industry. Jim is enthusiastic about finding additional ways to tell the story and recruit students,

whether it is bringing motor coaches of prospective students to campus, creating opportunities to bring high school counselors and career center professionals to campus or engaging alumni as active participants in the recruiting process. Jim loves being part of the Enrollment Services team, which he says is truly collaborative.

Jim has been married to his wife, Judy, for 28 years. The Johnsons have a college-aged son, Jake, who is currently a Physics/Engineering major.

Doug and Judy Peterson have been incredible fans and advocates of

NDSCS for the past five decades.

Judy graduated from the dental hygiene program at NDSCS then became an instructor in the program for the next 25 years. Judy, along with Dr. Rod Casad, has organized two reunions for dental hygiene program alumni. The reunions have coincided with Homecoming.

Doug is very active in his support of the College and its athletic department. You will see both of these enthusiastic boosters at every Catbacker Luncheon. “I just love getting to know the athletes that the coaches bring to those luncheons,” Doug said.

The Petersons have two sons, Tim and Michael. Both graduated from NDSCS. Mike is a science instructor at Omaha South High School and earned a master’s degree from NDSU. Tim is keeping the highways safe in Minnesota as a highway patrolman.

Congratulations to very deserving Wildcat of the Year inductees, Doug and Judy Peterson.

It is only appropriate that this year’s NDSCS Parade Grand Marshal, Shirley

Fox Trydahl, be honored by leading the parade she had orchestrated for nearly 14 years.

Shirley started her career with NDSCS in 1977, working in the Business Office. She also spent 18 years as Dental Clinic Coordinator and her last 14 years as Student Center Director before retiring in January of 2013. Shirley also served as the advisor for the Student Senate and Campus Activities Board.

Her favorite day on campus each year was move-in day. She would have sleepless nights before move-in day because of the excitement of new students coming to campus. Her favorite week of the year was Homecoming week, as she worked with students to build lasting memories on the

campus of NDSCS. Shirley commented, “My saddest day was always Graduation day, as I said farewell to so many wonderful students I had gotten to know so well.”

Shirley commented, “Honestly, I can say that after 35 years as an NDSCS employee, I still loved coming to work every day.” Her time now is spent with her husband, Dennis Trydahl, her children, Stephanie (Philip Brown), Michael, Timothy, Scott, Stacy (Keith Wendorf ) and Nathan Trydahl, and her five grandchildren, Anna, Jeremiah, Isaac, Olivia and Alexander.

Industrial Builders, Inc. (IBI) was founded in 1953 by

Warren and Irene Diederich. Warren served as a bomber pilot over Europe during WWII and received numerous military honors, including the Distinguished Flying Cross and Presidential Citation. He returned to Fargo and utilized the GI Bill to attend what was then NDAC. Because of this experience and where it led IBI, Warren never took education for granted.

IBI continues to be a family business with Paul and Donn Diederich at the helm. The foundation of the family business is integrity, hard work and a concern for people. IBI has a long history of success in the major project

construction scene. Some of their more notable jobs in the Fargo area include the Fargodome, the Veteran’s Memorial Main Avenue Bridge and the Veterans Boulevard Bridge.

Paul Diederich has been active in the Associated General Contractors (AGC) of America and the AGC of North Dakota. He has served on the education committee for 29 years and has helped award hundreds of scholarships to deserving students pursuing an education in construction. IBI has had incredible success with NDSCS graduates, not only in management; which has three vice presidents and threesuperintendents but also across their entire team. The

entire NDSCS family sends a huge thank you to Industrial Builders, Inc., for their generosity and vision.

Through the years, NDSCS has had different organized leadership groups.

Some have lasted for many years and others have been short lived. Alumni who served as Student Senate members, Campus Activities Board representatives or in other campus leadership roles during their time at NDSCS know what extra time and hard work helping to lead students on campus can take.

With a $25,000 lead gift from Bell State Bank & Trust, the NDSCS Foundation has established the NDSCS Leadership Fund. The Foundation also used the net proceeds of more than $100,000 from the 2014 DREAMS Auction and more than $65,000 in Challenge Grant match dollars to provide the start-up funds needed to create the Leadership Fund. The goal is to build an endowment of more than $500,000 to

provide the necessary annual earnings to run the Leadership Fund for many years to come.

This fund will create leadership training and educational opportunities for many on campus, but especially for a group of students called the NDSCS Ambassadors! This group of young men and women will be selected yearly from nominations from faculty and staff, and will participate in leadership training events as well as demonstrate their leadership ability at many internal and external events during the school year as ambassadors for the College.

It is the Foundation’s goal to continue building this fund and to use the proceeds

to expand the opportunities for leadership development to additional NDSCS students in the years to come. The NDSCS Alumni/Foundation Board is comprised of approximately 20 volunteer members who meet four times each year to provide guidance to the foundation director and staff. The mission of the foundation is: To support and assist those activities that develop and strengthen the North Dakota State College of Science. The NDSCS Alumni/Foundation Board is pleased to welcome the following new members:

Kurt Wickstrom was born and raised on a small grains farm in southern Saskatchewan, Canada. He has spent his entire life and career in agriculture. After graduating from college, Kurt worked for one of the largest Canadian farmer-owned cooperatives, Saskatchewan Wheat Pool. He then spent 14 years with Monsanto in various sales, product management, strategic account management and marketing management roles in Saskatchewan, Winnipeg and Manitoba, Canada and in St. Louis, Mo. During this time, Kurt also started his own farming operation 450 miles northeast of his parents’ farm, eventually expanding the operation to 4000 acres. Kurt joined Betaseed in December 2007, and assumed the role of president in July 2009. Kurt joined Minn-Dak Farmer’s Cooperative in July 2013 and assumed the role of president & CEO. Kurt has a Master of Business Administration degree from Athabasca University. He is happily married to Cora, and they have two daughters, Eve and Elizabeth.

Roger Richels was born and raised in Wahpeton. He graduated from Wahpeton High School and NDSCS before moving on to Minnesota State University Moorhead. Roger and his wife, Nancy, have two children, Kelsey and Jacob. Roger has served on numerous boards, including the Wahpeton Chamber/Ambassadors, Fraternal Order of Eagles, BW Blades, Head of the Red, United Way, Red River Human Services, Wahpeton Golf and Wahpeton Economic Development. Roger has been with Bremer Bank for 16 years and is currently the Branch Manager/Commercial Banker for the Wahpeton location.

Linda Hopkins has been with US Bank for 20 years and is currently the Wahpeton Branch Manager. Linda and her husband, Taviao, have two children who attend Breckenridge High School, Cecelia, a senior, and Sam, a freshman. The family enjoys different sports but spends a good deal of time following the kids’ basketball careers. Linda has been the treasurer for the Wahpeton Rotary for the past six years, and is a member of the LYO Board for the Breckenridge Lutheran Church.

Jeff Hilgemann graduated from Aberdeen (S.D.) High School, then graduated with an architectural drafting and estimating degree from NDSCS in 1976. Jeff was a very successful football player for the Wildcats and is a member of the NDSCS Athletic Hall of Fame both as an individual player and as a member of the 1971 championship team. Jeff taught and coached at NDSCS for eight years. He was the offensive coordinator for head coaches Al Grage and Larry McDaniel. Jeff and Cheryl, his wife of 39 years, then moved to the Twin Cities where she began her career with 3M and he earned his Bachelor of Science in Construction Management from the University of Wisconsin Stout. He used that degree for the next 20 years, focusing his talents on managing the design portion of the business.

As we continue to evolve as a college, aligned

with our desire to remain as a national leader, we have pursued business and industry partnerships that will enhance our program’s sustainability.

As we listen to business and industry leaders, they have shared the various competencies and skills they want their entry-level technicians to be equipped with their first day on the job. They include:• specific content subject knowledge • communication skills both written and

verbal• problem solving abilities• critical thinking capabilities• system/network thinking• ability to work in a team environment,

and• leadership skills

In an effort to provide additional leadership opportunities for our students the NDSCS Foundation has initiated a Student Leadership Academy. Students who are selected to participate in the Academy will be offered leadership training opportunities and

will have a number of various occasions to practice and demonstrate leadership skills throughout college.

The NDSCS Alumni Foundation has established a Leadership Endowment Fund to financially support the Academy.

Through the efforts of a few motivated Alums and the current NDSCS

Agriculture Program Staff, an Agricultural Program Reunion for all former Ag students and faculty has been set for December 19th and 20th of 2014. There will be an early evening social on the 19th with tours of the Diesel and Ag program

facilities on the 20th followed by a short program on Campus. A Banquet preceded by a one hour social hour held at the Eagles Club in Wahpeton will close out the reunion. This past October, three 1977 NDSCS football alums enjoyed a two-day

pheasant hunting trip in southwest North Dakota, courtesy of Harold and Linda Narum and Dry Creek Ranch, owned by Jim Sabe (Class of ‘83).

It all started when the Narums contributed a two-day hunt on their land near Amidon, N.D. to the 2010 DREAMS Auction. A group of former NDSCS football alumni consisting of Dennis Broderick (Class of ‘78), Tom Shorma (Class of ‘78), Brad Barth (Class of ’78) and Mike Neppl (Class of ’71 and defensive back coach in 1978) were the winning bidders. The teammates were joined by Del Carver and his two dogs, Toby and Finn. Due to some early winter weather at the Narums’ and the resulting pheasant loss, NDSCS football alum of Jim Sabe (Class of ‘83), owner

of Dry Creek Ranch, stepped up to offer some great habitat and many opportunities for birds.

As part of their donation, Harold and Linda were gracious hosts and provided wonderful, scrumptious home-cooked breakfasts, lunches and dinners that were enjoyed by all. The group stayed in the Amidon Cabins, located in the Amidon campground, which is owned and operated by Anna & Travis Allard. Special thanks also to Mike Teske (Class of ’84) and the Teske family of the Scranton area for also allowing the group to hunt on some of their land.

The DREAMS Auction is the NDSCS Foundation’s largest annual fundraising event. Through donations like the Narums’ and Sabe’s, successful events like this help

to gather alumni together and rekindle their passion for NDSCS. If you would like to help sponsor a hunting or fishing trip of this type, please call the Alumni/ Foundation office.

When Samantha Lemmerman (Class of ‘12) is asked what brought her

to NDSCS, she credits former Enrollment Services Representative Tonya Stokka (who currently serves as the NDSCS Pathway Program Coordinator) with bringing her to the College. “When she visited the high school I attended, I had no idea where I was going or what I want to study,” said Samantha. “I was the only senior that had signed up to visit with her and by the end of the time, she had convinced me that I had to go to NDSCS. Two years after graduation, I know I made the right choice.”

“NDSCS has meant the world to me, and the people there as well,” stated Samantha. It was the first college she attended, the first place where she had friends that hadn’t seen her go through the awkward teenage years and where she met her best friend.

“NDSCS is where I reached the decision that I would go into English,” said Samantha. “Taking Deb Dusek and Karen Chobot’s combined teaching Alternative Literature course helped me in the decision to pursue a creative writing degree.”

“To say that NDSCS gave me those first pushes toward where I am today is a complete understatement,” continued Samantha. “I can’t even begin to recall all the wonderful times I had at NDSCS: choir concerts, playing video games in Walton Hall, trying to cross the ‘big’ parking lot to get to speech classes with Professor Foley, walking to Dairy Delight in the middle of a blizzard to get ice cream … the list just goes on forever!”

“If I could say anything to future students of NDSCS, it would have to be to listen to

that list of six tips that Dr. Richman said at orientation - and I assume he still says - about succeeding. When you first start college, it’s intimidating, but when you look back, as I have, those tips are really true and really good advice,” said Samantha. “Also, don’t be afraid to start a professional relationship with your administration. I knew if I bumped into Dr. Richman in the hall or in The Oval, that I would be able to start a conversation with him, about whatever.”

Samantha concludes by reminding everyone that there are many ways to support the College, the students and the faculty. “It’s totally true — Once a Wildcat, Always a Wildcat!”

North Dakota Boys State Director Neil Litton has an interesting connection

to NDSCS, where the annual Boys State week is held. Thirty-eight years ago, he met his future wife, Bonnie (Amundson), at NDSCS! Like many of the NDSCS couples during that time, they met at Vagts Barn, a local private weekly dance. They dated and went to places like The Blazer and The Wilkin, two local establishments that catered to NDSCS students. (The legal age for alcohol in 1976 was 18.) They became engaged while at NDSCS and were married after their two years as Wildcats.

While at NDSCS, they participated in the DECA club and attended the national DECA conference in Anaheim, Calif. and

Washington, DC. Neil has been a DECA advisor for the past 32 years, and for the past 31 years, he has taken students from Central Cass High School in Casselton to

the national DECA conference. Neil and Bonnie served in the Agawasie Club and were members of the 75th year staff, where Bonnie served as editor. They were also members of the Phi Beta Lambda club and attended the national conference in San Francisco, Calif. together. Bonnie was the president of the Sacajawea Club and was a Homecoming Queen candidate. Neil was part of the Drama Club and Delta Psi Omega honorary fraternity.

Neil has served as the North Dakota Boys State Director since 1998. Thanks for the many years of service to the State of North Dakota, Neil, and thanks for representing the best of NDSCS.

Jeremy Heen graduated from NDSCS with an Electrical Technology degree

in 1996 and hasn’t allowed any grass to grow under his feet ever since. Living near Alexander, N.D., Jeremy finds himself, his wife, Krista, and his four kids right in the middle of the oil patch boom.

Jeremy started Indian Hill Electric in 2006 and has grown it into a very successful enterprise. One special factor is that he hires NDSCS graduates almost exclusively. He has 10 employees and nine are NDSCS graduates. Asked why he focuses his recruiting efforts on NDSCS graduates, he states “Science does a good job preparing the guys in some of the difficult areas like electrical theory. They are also PLS and transmitter prepared. Basically, they come out ready to get to work.”

Jeremy utilizes local high school students that have been referred to him, then directs them to Wahpeton for training

and allows them to come to work for him in the summer during their break. This has been a winning combination so far for Hess Corporation, who utilizes Indian Hill Electric exclusively for their oil patch electrical maintenance needs.

Jeremy stays busy by staying involved in his kids’ wrestling, baseball and football practices and games. He is also the vice president for the Alexander school board, chairman of the Williston Rural Fire District Board of Directors and a supervisor of tri township.

After moving into his dorm room this past fall, Chase Shypkowski

had a discussion with his grandmother, Kathleen Schultz Braun of Rosholt, S.D., and found out he was staying in the same room she did in 1964! Kathleen was in the Office Administration program and after she completed her coursework at NDSCS, she worked for Herman Liberda, Dean of Administration/Financial Aid.

Keith Huschka is a successful, hard-working, common sense

kind of guy. He graduated from Sidney (Mont.) High School in 1973. He wanted to learn how to make and fix parts for machines. NDSCS made sense, so he came to Wahpeton and graduated with an Associate’s degree in precision machining in 1975, then went to work in Dickinson N.D., doing job shop work.

Just five years later, he bought a building and started a company called Precision Machine of Dickinson. He worked hard to gain inroads with those in the coal producing industry and has developed dozens of relationships over the years with those who need his company’s talents. From 1985 to 2010, 90 percent of the work done in his shop was for the coal industry.

In 2010 the Bakken oil boom hit. Keith saw a need in the oil industry for specially threaded pipe so it made sense to purchase the best American-made pipe threading machines made by Haas Industries. He began a threading business with product that was being shipped up to 800 miles away for completion and is now doing all of the threading in-house.

Keith is a very successful land developer as well as a visionary in his industry. Keith decided to give back to NDSCS in a big way this past year. Working with his financial advisor, Nathan Sorenson of Brady, Martz & Associates in Dickinson, Keith utilized the North Dakota Endowment Tax Credit, which allows a 40% tax credit for any gift to a non-profit qualified endowment. Keith made his very generous gift, received a 40% tax credit,

took his federal deduction and found the gift was less than 25% out-of-pocket from the original amount gifted. The College was able to utilize the North Dakota Challenge Grant and receive a 50% match on the money so The Precision Machine of Dickinson Endowed Scholarship is paying out $3000 this fall to a lucky student. It makes “cents”!

The 2013 North Dakota State Legislature created the North Dakota Challenge Grant for higher education institutions in

the state. What it means to NDSCS is that for every $2 of private donations to qualified projects, the state will provide a $1 match. The qualified projects have to be at least $25,000 in size, but individual donations can be any amount and can be pooled together with other donations to meet the $25,000 minimum amount.

As of the end of June 2014, this Challenge Grant has resulted in $1,100,000 of private donations to NDSCS and a Challenge Grant match of $550,000. NDSCS has a total of $1,000,000 in match money available through the Challenge Grant, so please consider a donation to one of the College’s qualified projects today to help NDSCS achieve its goal of receiving all of the available match dollars.

ND CHALLENGE GRANTIn 2013, North Dakota legislators created the North Dakota Challenge Fund Matching Grant Program. NDSCS has been allocated up to $1,000,000 in matching dollars if we raise $2,000,000 in private dollars by the end of 2014. The guidelines for the program are as follows: projects must be at least $25,000 in size and be exclusively dedicated to the advancement of enhanced academics, including investments in research, scholarships, technology, endowed chairs and investments in educational infrastructure, including new capital construction projects that conform to the university system campus master plan and space utilization study. You do not have to be a North Dakota resident to take advantage of this opportunity. An example is shown below.

2014 LETTERWINNER INDUCTEES

Joe Murphy, a standout on the 1986 and 1987 NDSCS football teams, graduated from Glyndon-Felton (Minn.) High School. He was a high school all-conference selection in 1984 and 1985, and had the

distinction of playing on the 1984 state football second place team and the 1985 Minnesota state football championship team. While at NDSCS, Joe was received an All-NDAC Honorable Mention in 1986 and was an All-Region XIII 1st team and All-NDAC 1st team selection in 1987. He was also voted by his teammates as Outstanding Offensive Back and the team’s Most Valuable Player. At one time, Joe was the NDSCS all-time leading receiver in four categories: single season receptions, single season yards, career receptions and career yards. Joe is in his 15th year of teaching special education and is currently teaching in West Fargo, N.D., where he lives with his wife, Ginny, and daughter, Abbey.

Steve Calvin, a member of the 1991 and 1992 NDSCS football teams, graduated from Milwaukee Tech High School in Milwauke, Wisc., where he was team captain and an All-Conference selection. While at NDSCS, Steve was a team captain and a starting left offensive tackle known for his “pancake” blocks. Steve was a member of the 1992 7-4 RC Cola Bowl Championship team. Steve credits his years and coaches at NDSCS for giving him strength, guidance and

confidence for his future career. Steve resides in Milwaukee, Wisc., and has a son, Jaxon.

Greta Holmes, was a member of NDSCS volleyball teams that earned

the following titles: 2001 NJCAA Division II Runner-Up, 2001 NJCAA Division II District G Champions, 2001 NJCAA Division II Region XIII

Champions, 2000 and 2001 Conference Champions and 2000 NJCAA Division II Region XIII Volleyball Runner-Up. The 2001 NDSCS volleyball team had a record of 40-8 and was inducted into the NDSCS Athletic Hall of Fame in 2011. Individually, Greta was a 2001 NJCAA Division II Volleyball All American 1st Team member, 2001 NJCAA Division II Volleyball All Tournament Team member, 2001 NJCAA Division II Region XIII All Region Team member and a 2001 Academic All-America. She was the 2001 team co-captain and is a record holder in the following categories: 2nd all-time in set assists with 2,295 and 1st all-time in serving aces with 170. Greta continued her record-setting career at the University of West Georgia and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. Greta lives in Bloomington, Minn. and works as a Senior Property Accountant for Piedmont Office Realty Trust. She is the Assistant Varsity Volleyball Coach at Edina High School in Edina, Minn. where she has been named MNVBCA Section 6AAA Assistant Coach of the Year in 2012 & 2013. She also coaches for Northern Lights Volleyball Club in Burnsville, Minn. in June 2014 her 15-2 team won the 41st AAU National Championship in the 15 Premier Division.

Tommy Reynolds, a 1994 and 1995 NDSCS football team member, held records for touchdowns in a game, touchdowns in a single season, rushing yards per game, rushing yards per season and yards per carry. Tommy was an All-Conference pick both years he played and was a 2nd Team All-American in 1994. He was voted by his teammates Best Running Back in 1994 and 1995. Tommy credits his time at NDSCS with teaching him how to work with people of different cultures and giving him the discipline to be successful in life. Tommy went on to Eastern Illinois University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in African American Studies. He currently is a teacher in Texas and has a 10-year-old son Jon-Bernard Reynolds and 4-year-old daughter Olivia Reynolds and is in a relationship with Tabatha Parish.

John Grogan, honorary member of the 2014 NDSCS Athletic Hall of Fame, served as the NDSCS athletic trainer and strength and conditioning coach from 1991 to 1997, working under coach John Richman. John

Grogan was an instrumental member of the 1992 RC Cola Bowl Championship team. In 1998, he moved on to NDSU as a strength and conditioning coach until 2003. John earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota-Duluth, and his Master’s degree from St. Cloud State University. John has two children, Kelley Grogan of Fargo, N.D., and Kate Grogan of Boise, Idaho and currently is working in the transportation industry.

Larry Hamilton, men’s basketball player from 1981-1983, was a member of the 1983 Men’s NJCAA National Tournament team coached by Don Rockstad. Larry was a two-time All Conference Award winner, All State 2nd Team member

in 1982, All State 1st Team member and All Region XIII Team member in 1983. He was voted co-captain of the 1982-1983 team and Most Valuable Player for both years he played at NDSCS. The 1963-1964 NDSCS Men’s Basketball Team, coached by NDSCS Hall of Fame member Ed Werre and assistant coach and Hall of Fame member Jerry Rettig, finished the season with a 16-13 record and a Region XIII Championship and an NJCAA Championship berth in Hutchinson, Kan. The team was led by Hall of Fame inductees Henry Holte and Gary Ness.
