NCA vaccinates over 10000 people - Book your vaccine now

This week we celebrate a fantastic milestone Across the NCA and our Care Organisationswe have vaccinated over 10000 people including 8500 staff A way out of this pandemic will be the success and speed of the roll-out of the vaccineWith high rates of COVID-19 itrsquos more important than ever to help stop the spread ofcoronavirus to avoid pressure on our services and to keep our workforce safe and healthy Our clinical and non-clinical services have come together at pace to deliver the most

ambitious vaccination programme NHS England has ever seen Not only have our staff been setting up vaccine clinics at our hospital sites but as LeadProvider for the GM Vaccination Centre at the Etihad campus our staff from a number ofdisciplines including estates facilities ITdigital pharmacy and nursing have all stepped upto deliver this large facility safely and successfully in a matter of weeks Itrsquos a fantastic achievement and testament to the commitment and hard work of all our staffthat we have been able to achieve so many vaccinations in such a short space of time How and where to book for your vaccine

You can book for your vaccination through our simple online booking system Pleaseensure you read our FAQs on the intranet before you book which detail answers toquestions you may have and sets out some situations which may prevent you having yourvaccine The majority of staff will have their vaccination at the hospital Care Organisation whereyou work and are based You should book to receive your vaccine at your relevant CareOrganisation There may be exceptional circumstances such as severe allergies whereyou will need medical advice to ensure you are given the most appropriate vaccine Our hospital vaccine hubs are available for all staff to book appointments at SalfordOldham and Rochdale with Bury starting its vaccination slots tomorrow You can get your vaccination 7 days a week across all of our sites There are still emptyslots this weekend for all staff so please book on and take the opportunity The system isconstantly updating and can appear to be full but please check back as new slots areconstantly being made available For more information on the staff covid-19 vaccination - click here

Meet our vaccinators helping to keep colleagues protected

Dr David Fitzgerald Consultant Dermatologist and Chair of the Division ofTertiary Medicine at Salford Care Organisation Staff from across the NCA who are volunteer vaccinators say it is rewarding to be helpingto protect their colleagues from COVID Dr David Fitzgerald Consultant Dermatologist and Chair of the Division of TertiaryMedicine at Salford Care Organisation has completed the vaccination training He said ldquoThe online training took me about two hours and even though I thought I wasquite well informed about COVID and vaccines I found it genuinely interesting I thenspent 15 minutes with one of nurses in the vaccination centre going over the paperworkwhich was quite straightforward

ldquoSo far Irsquove done a Saturday morning and a couple of onetwo hour sessions during theweek fitting it around my other commitmentsrdquo Dr Fitzgerald who has been vaccinated himself said he would encourage all staff to takeup the opportunity to be vaccinated to keep safe stay in work and help look after patients He added ldquoVaccination is the exit route from COVID and everything itrsquos done to our livesVaccinating all NHS staff is crucial not only for their own protection and confidence but toavoid time off work ldquoAlthough the vaccines were developed quickly this was done by speeding up thepaperwork and admin parts of the trials not by cutting corners on the actual testing Itrsquosbecoming clear that even younger and fitter people can be badly affected by COVID andvaccination is very effective at preventing serious illness ldquoI have found vaccinating to be extremely rewarding There is a really positive atmospherein the vaccination centre and everyone we vaccinate is extremely grateful I spend a lot oftime in meetings about COVID and itrsquos great do some hands-on work on it toordquo

Could you help support the vaccination programme

Now more than ever we will need the support of both clinical and administrative teamsacross the NCA to help us pull together and deliver this crucial first step in makingeveryone safe In order to maintain the pace of our vaccination programme we are calling on any staffboth clinical and non-clinical to dedicate some additional time to support our vaccinationeffort Offered on a bank or an overtime basis or from within your existing contracted hours youwill join your local hospital vaccination hub where you will be allocated to tasks most suitedto your current skills Please be assured that no staff member will be asked to performadditional duties that they are not fully equipped or trained to deliver Your e-learning programmes are available Salford via Moodle - httpswwwsalfordlearningnhsukcourseviewphpid=407 And for NES amp PCCS via ESR - httpsmyesrnhsuk Following this you should print off your certificates and arrange for observed practice withan assessor at your vaccination hub to complete your training We fully appreciate that many services are under a lot of pressure and whilst we would begrateful of the additional help we understand that it may not be possible for you to commitany additional hours to help at the moment Therefore only consider coming forward todedicate your time if it is safe to do ndash for yourself your family and your department

Greater Manchester Vaccination Centre opens

Monday 11th January saw the opening of a new COVID-19 large scale GM VaccinationCentre at the Manchester Tennis and Football Club Etihad Campus - a momentous day forthe local NHS and for the people of Greater Manchester Working with local NHS partnersthe private and public sector and voluntary organisations the NCA played a key role ingetting the centre up and running and will continue to operate the centre for theforeseeable future acting as the lead NHS provider as a major part of the regionrsquosvaccination programme

NCA takes a lead role

Just five weeks ago it was home to three indoor tennis courts originally built for the 2002Commonwealth Games in Manchester But thanks to a huge team effort it is now a fullyfunctioning health facility vaccinating hundreds of people every day against Coronavirus The teams involved in setting up and running the Greater Manchester Vaccination Centrehave been praised for pulling out all the stops to make it happen Colleagues from acrossthe NCA and partnering organisations have worked incredibly hard to transform the tenniscentre in a matter of weeks The Vaccination Centre Programme Director Jacqui Burrow (pictured above) andRochdale Director of Nursing said everyone had pulled together to do whatever wasneeded to ensure the service was up and running on Monday She said ldquoStaff have been working around the clock to mobilise this service Theyrsquove cometogether from a wide range of organsiations and disciplines including immunisation andvaccination services nursing estates pharmacy and organisational development IT andstaff training ldquoWe are very proud about what has been achieved in setting up the first vaccination centrein Greater Manchester This is a significant and positive step forward in our fight againstCOVID-19 and brings some much-needed good newsrdquo As well as the NCA acting as lead NHS provider responsible for the running of the centremany other organisations have been involved in the mobilisation including Tamesideand Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust which is responsible for therecruitment and staffing of the centre Manchester City Council Manchester City FootballClub the Ministry of Defence and volunteers from St Johnrsquos Ambulance and the RoyalVoluntary Service

Rochdale school nurse Kellie leads vaccination charge

One of the staff members delivering the centrersquos first jabs was Kellie Holt who has beenreleased from her day job as a school nurse in Rochdale to support the COVID-19vaccination programme She said she was delighted to have taken part in the launch of thecentre and that she felt proud she was part of the work to bring ldquofresh hope and realoptimism that we will begin to return back to normal in 2021rdquo She added ldquoThis is afantastic development in the fight against COVID-19rdquo

Pharmacist Estelle oversees safe roll out of vaccines

Estelle McCoy has used her skills as a pharmacist to lead a team of pharmacy colleaguesproviding vital support to the vaccinators delivering clinics at the vaccination centre Shesaid it was fantastic to now see the injections being deployed adding ldquoIt is wonderful to bepart of such an important part of the vaccination roll out I am full of praise for thepharmacy team and all the support they have offered their clinical colleagues to ensurethat all vaccines are stored handled and administered as safely as possible by trainedstaffrdquo

Colleagues are invited to submit their tribute and messages of condolence for ourcolleague Mark Barnes who has sadly and unexpectedly died after a short illness Mark an AampE Porter worked as part of our NCA Family at The Royal Oldham Hospital for15 years firstly as part of the security team before becoming a dedicated AampE Porter Hewas well known throughout the organisation and will be sorely missed by all who knewhim

In tribute to Mark the AampE Team at Oldham will be arranging a foodbank appeal If yoursquodlike to make a donation to the appeal please drop any items off with the AampE team

Joining Salford Royal in 2008 from The Royal Liverpool Fiona is the Lead Nurse for theNursing Assessment Accreditation System which she developed with DameElaine Inglesby-Burke CBE

NAAS has been recognised nationally as an excellent example of a ward accreditationsystem by the Chief Nursing Officer and Fiona was recently asked to work with NHSEngland to support the national work on accreditation NAAS was also recognised inSalford Royalrsquos last two lsquooutstandingrsquo CQC reports as an area of outstanding practiceembedded into practice to ensure care delivery was safe clean and personal every timeThis work was then used as a starting point to inform and support the introduction of theNAAS process at Pennine Acute in 2016

Over the last 12 years Fiona has supported the organisation as Lead Corporate Nursesupporting many work streams including EPR documentation medicines safety patientexperience nutrition and hydration quality improvement as well as supporting wardmanagers matrons and ward teams to ensure they deliver the highest standard of care

NCA teams scoop multiple awards at Healthwatch Oldham PeoplersquosChoice Awards

Massive congratulations to all our NCA teams that have won awards at this yearrsquosinaugural Healthwatch Oldham Peoplersquos Choice Awards including the team at ButlerGreen who won an impressive 3 awards and our volunteering team who won anaward and received a commendation for volunteer Max Leigh (pictured)

Healthwatch Oldham launched the Peoplersquos Choice Awards last year asking localresidents in Oldham to nominate individuals and services that they believe deserve a bit ofrecognition in what was and continues to be very challenging circumstances

Massive congratulations to all our NCA teams that have won awards at this yearrsquosinaugural Healthwatch Oldham Peoplersquos Choice Awards including the team at ButlerGreen who won an impressive 3 awards and our volunteering team who won anaward and received a commendation for volunteer Max Leigh (pictured)

Healthwatch Oldham launched the Peoplersquos Choice Awards last year asking localresidents in Oldham to nominate individuals and services that they believe deserve a bit ofrecognition in what was and continues to be very challenging circumstances

ldquoSo far Irsquove done a Saturday morning and a couple of onetwo hour sessions during theweek fitting it around my other commitmentsrdquo Dr Fitzgerald who has been vaccinated himself said he would encourage all staff to takeup the opportunity to be vaccinated to keep safe stay in work and help look after patients He added ldquoVaccination is the exit route from COVID and everything itrsquos done to our livesVaccinating all NHS staff is crucial not only for their own protection and confidence but toavoid time off work ldquoAlthough the vaccines were developed quickly this was done by speeding up thepaperwork and admin parts of the trials not by cutting corners on the actual testing Itrsquosbecoming clear that even younger and fitter people can be badly affected by COVID andvaccination is very effective at preventing serious illness ldquoI have found vaccinating to be extremely rewarding There is a really positive atmospherein the vaccination centre and everyone we vaccinate is extremely grateful I spend a lot oftime in meetings about COVID and itrsquos great do some hands-on work on it toordquo

Now more than ever we will need the support of both clinical and administrative teamsacross the NCA to help us pull together and deliver this crucial first step in makingeveryone safe In order to maintain the pace of our vaccination programme we are calling on any staffboth clinical and non-clinical to dedicate some additional time to support our vaccinationeffort Offered on a bank or an overtime basis or from within your existing contracted hours youwill join your local hospital vaccination hub where you will be allocated to tasks most suitedto your current skills Please be assured that no staff member will be asked to performadditional duties that they are not fully equipped or trained to deliver Your e-learning programmes are available Salford via Moodle - httpswwwsalfordlearningnhsukcourseviewphpid=407 And for NES amp PCCS via ESR - httpsmyesrnhsuk Following this you should print off your certificates and arrange for observed practice withan assessor at your vaccination hub to complete your training We fully appreciate that many services are under a lot of pressure and whilst we would begrateful of the additional help we understand that it may not be possible for you to commitany additional hours to help at the moment Therefore only consider coming forward todedicate your time if it is safe to do ndash for yourself your family and your department

Greater Manchester Vaccination Centre opens

Monday 11th January saw the opening of a new COVID-19 large scale GM VaccinationCentre at the Manchester Tennis and Football Club Etihad Campus - a momentous day forthe local NHS and for the people of Greater Manchester Working with local NHS partnersthe private and public sector and voluntary organisations the NCA played a key role ingetting the centre up and running and will continue to operate the centre for theforeseeable future acting as the lead NHS provider as a major part of the regionrsquosvaccination programme

NCA takes a lead role

Just five weeks ago it was home to three indoor tennis courts originally built for the 2002Commonwealth Games in Manchester But thanks to a huge team effort it is now a fullyfunctioning health facility vaccinating hundreds of people every day against Coronavirus The teams involved in setting up and running the Greater Manchester Vaccination Centrehave been praised for pulling out all the stops to make it happen Colleagues from acrossthe NCA and partnering organisations have worked incredibly hard to transform the tenniscentre in a matter of weeks The Vaccination Centre Programme Director Jacqui Burrow (pictured above) andRochdale Director of Nursing said everyone had pulled together to do whatever wasneeded to ensure the service was up and running on Monday She said ldquoStaff have been working around the clock to mobilise this service Theyrsquove cometogether from a wide range of organsiations and disciplines including immunisation andvaccination services nursing estates pharmacy and organisational development IT andstaff training ldquoWe are very proud about what has been achieved in setting up the first vaccination centrein Greater Manchester This is a significant and positive step forward in our fight againstCOVID-19 and brings some much-needed good newsrdquo As well as the NCA acting as lead NHS provider responsible for the running of the centremany other organisations have been involved in the mobilisation including Tamesideand Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust which is responsible for therecruitment and staffing of the centre Manchester City Council Manchester City FootballClub the Ministry of Defence and volunteers from St Johnrsquos Ambulance and the RoyalVoluntary Service

Rochdale school nurse Kellie leads vaccination charge

One of the staff members delivering the centrersquos first jabs was Kellie Holt who has beenreleased from her day job as a school nurse in Rochdale to support the COVID-19vaccination programme She said she was delighted to have taken part in the launch of thecentre and that she felt proud she was part of the work to bring ldquofresh hope and realoptimism that we will begin to return back to normal in 2021rdquo She added ldquoThis is afantastic development in the fight against COVID-19rdquo

Pharmacist Estelle oversees safe roll out of vaccines

Estelle McCoy has used her skills as a pharmacist to lead a team of pharmacy colleaguesproviding vital support to the vaccinators delivering clinics at the vaccination centre Shesaid it was fantastic to now see the injections being deployed adding ldquoIt is wonderful to bepart of such an important part of the vaccination roll out I am full of praise for thepharmacy team and all the support they have offered their clinical colleagues to ensurethat all vaccines are stored handled and administered as safely as possible by trainedstaffrdquo

NAAS has been recognised nationally as an excellent example of a ward accreditationsystem by the Chief Nursing Officer and Fiona was recently asked to work with NHSEngland to support the national work on accreditation NAAS was also recognised inSalford Royalrsquos last two lsquooutstandingrsquo CQC reports as an area of outstanding practiceembedded into practice to ensure care delivery was safe clean and personal every timeThis work was then used as a starting point to inform and support the introduction of theNAAS process at Pennine Acute in 2016

Over the last 12 years Fiona has supported the organisation as Lead Corporate Nursesupporting many work streams including EPR documentation medicines safety patientexperience nutrition and hydration quality improvement as well as supporting wardmanagers matrons and ward teams to ensure they deliver the highest standard of care

Estelle McCoy has used her skills as a pharmacist to lead a team of pharmacy colleaguesproviding vital support to the vaccinators delivering clinics at the vaccination centre Shesaid it was fantastic to now see the injections being deployed adding ldquoIt is wonderful to bepart of such an important part of the vaccination roll out I am full of praise for thepharmacy team and all the support they have offered their clinical colleagues to ensurethat all vaccines are stored handled and administered as safely as possible by trainedstaffrdquo

Joining Salford Royal in 2008 from The Royal Liverpool Fiona is the Lead Nurse for theNursing Assessment Accreditation System which she developed with DameElaine Inglesby-Burke CBE

NAAS has been recognised nationally as an excellent example of a ward accreditationsystem by the Chief Nursing Officer and Fiona was recently asked to work with NHSEngland to support the national work on accreditation NAAS was also recognised inSalford Royalrsquos last two lsquooutstandingrsquo CQC reports as an area of outstanding practiceembedded into practice to ensure care delivery was safe clean and personal every timeThis work was then used as a starting point to inform and support the introduction of theNAAS process at Pennine Acute in 2016

Over the last 12 years Fiona has supported the organisation as Lead Corporate Nursesupporting many work streams including EPR documentation medicines safety patientexperience nutrition and hydration quality improvement as well as supporting wardmanagers matrons and ward teams to ensure they deliver the highest standard of care

One of the staff members delivering the centrersquos first jabs was Kellie Holt who has beenreleased from her day job as a school nurse in Rochdale to support the COVID-19vaccination programme She said she was delighted to have taken part in the launch of thecentre and that she felt proud she was part of the work to bring ldquofresh hope and realoptimism that we will begin to return back to normal in 2021rdquo She added ldquoThis is afantastic development in the fight against COVID-19rdquo

Pharmacist Estelle oversees safe roll out of vaccines

NCA teams scoop multiple awards at Healthwatch Oldham PeoplersquosChoice Awards

Massive congratulations to all our NCA teams that have won awards at this yearrsquosinaugural Healthwatch Oldham Peoplersquos Choice Awards including the team at ButlerGreen who won an impressive 3 awards and our volunteering team who won anaward and received a commendation for volunteer Max Leigh (pictured)

Healthwatch Oldham launched the Peoplersquos Choice Awards last year asking localresidents in Oldham to nominate individuals and services that they believe deserve a bit ofrecognition in what was and continues to be very challenging circumstances

Congratulations and well done to all our staff Itrsquos well deserved and wersquore very proud ofyou

Feedback from twitter I want to thank the Emergency Assessment Unit at Salford Royal for your care ofmy mum both when you saved her from sepsis in 2019 and before Christmas when she succumbed topneumonia (not Covid) You gave us time to be with her and I couldnrsquot ask for more Love to everyone onthe ward
