Only changes of funding sources or significant changes in amounts of funding need to be reported to OIS and updated on the I-20/DS-2019. Refer to the University’s Cashier’s Office to determine estimated tuition rates for your degree program and use the OIS’s funding calculator to calculate estimated expenses. Submit this completed and signed form along with the completed funding calculator and funding documents (for example, bank statement, sponsor letter, assistantship contract, etc.). Funding documents must be in English and issued within last 6 months. J-1s must also attach proof of health insurance for themselves (except J-1 students) and any dependents that meet the requirements listed on OIS’s website.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Dependents are defined as spouse and unmarried children under the age of 21. The dependent funding requirements are as follows: $800 per month for a spouse and $500 per month for each child. Proof of sufficient funding and a copy of each dependent passport is required to issue dependent I-20s/DS-2019s. Examples of acceptable funding documents include personal bank statements, family bank statement with sponsor affidavit (available on OIS's Forms for Current International Students page), assistantship letter, or other statement which shows liquid funds. Funding documents must be in English, less than 6 months old, and show the account/assistantship holder's name.

One of the regulatory requirements for issuing the document for a student visa is that credible documentation of sufficient finances be on file with the school. The estimated costs of tuition, fees and living expenses are reviewed each year and posted on this website. Please keep in mind that this is an estimate calculated well in advance of the start of the semester and actual costs are subject to change.
If you are a current student and you need to apply for an extension of your visa document in order to complete the degree program, you will need to demonstrate an adjusted proof of funding. Please use this calculator as a tool to estimate the required amount and attach this calculation when you submit your I-20/DS-2019 extension request to OIS.
