Page 8: NC State11am-6pm: Games including 22ft Tsunami Slip-N-Slide, 30ft Pirate Slip-N-Slide, 24ft Rock Wall, Hungry Hippo Chow Down, Candy Maker, Snow Cones 4pm-7pm: Evening Cookout Buffet

The first Saturday of the Memorial Day weekend was a beautiful day, and 697 members and guests made it a huge success. As the pool season continues and still others have the opportunity to be in the pool and in the clubhouse, we hope that all can help us maintain the interior of the building and project the appearance that both members and guests expect by ensuring that when you enter the clubhouse from the pool area that you are appropriately dressed in dry clothing. Dress for dining on the fire pit patio and the patio off the University Room, although casual, should include footwear in the unlikely event that foreign objects are present. Our snack bar survey had a great response from about 70 members. Please look at the revised menu for the snack bar, which is also posted on our website, and which now includes the foods and snacks that you noted in your survey as additional offerings desired. We also kept most of the items from last year. We added the usual and customary icons, (e.g. gluten free) to allow the purchaser to be better informed about the offerings. Among several offerings new this year are the smoothies made with either low-fat or almond milk, and are, to date, one of the more frequently purchased items. We want your pool experience to be a great one and, to that end, we have employed an excellent staff of guards, pool managers and coaches. In addition to the requisite training and certifications required by regulatory groups to be a lifeguard, the staff has also been given some initial in-house training and will continue to have in-service training throughout the summer. However, we also need the help of parents and other caregivers to further reduce the chance of incidents. If you leave the pool for outdoor dining on the fire pit patio or for some other area, please ensure that your child(ren) are left with a responsible person. A Note About Color and Symbols. Our club has always been known for its openness and hospitality, and we wish to continue to be so known. Unfortunately though there are sometimes color and symbol issues that go beyond merely piquing others’ interests in the person’s background or academic pedigree and may regrettably cause frustration with or ill feelings toward another member. So if you need some Wolfpack red clothing to assuage those feelings, check what we have available in the pro shop here or other places about town. It also would make a wonderful Father’s Day or other gift. While on the golf course, we urge all golfers to be especially vigilant for the presence of children, particularly near tee number one. We would also like for all parents to ensure that our younger members stay off the greens and out of the sand traps. The only relatively safe place for non-golfers to be on the golf course is the small area behind tee number one. Runners on the golf course should hug the fence line near the Vet School and otherwise only run the perimeter of the course. Many have undoubtedly heard the wolves howling which are housed on the property of our west side neighbor, the Vet School, and heard usually when a siren is also heard nearby. Vet School personnel have contacted us recently and asked that we help ensure that our members and guests do not climb over the Vet School’s electrified fence and get near the penned enclosure for the wolves where a bull is also kept. Our property line is clearly demarcated by the wooden fence with the woven wire behind it and adherence to that line will provide adequate protection for both the Vet School animals and our members, guests and staff. Other issues that all members should know about include the I440 beltline widening project which is overviewed in another section of this newsletter. We will continue to keep our members abreast of this project. We look forward to continuing to serve you and plan to make this one of your best summers ever! Pool Parties

Looking for a place to hold your next party? The pool

is available for rental during and after pool hours.

During pool hours:

The maximum number of people for one party is 35

during regular pool hours. All guests of the pool must

pay $5/person Monday-Thursday and $10/person

Friday-Sunday whether they are swimming or not.

Outside of pool hours:

In addition to the guest policy listed above, there are

additional fees of $50 opening early/closing late fees.

It is also required that there be a minimum of 2 guards

at $16/hour. All parties will be asked to obey pool rules

and clean up after the party has finished.

Payment of guest fees, rental fee, and lifeguard fees

will go on the member’s account and will be prepared

by the manager on duty.

For more information and the rental contract, please

visit our website under the swim tab in activities or

pick one up in the front office.

Snack Bar Bucks Cards

Parents, we’ve made it easier than ever to help manage

the amount of money that your child spends at the

snack bar! This summer we will be introducing snack

bar bucks, a gift card that can be reloaded with as

much or as little as you would like. Please stop by the

office or send an email to [email protected]

to inquire about a card.

Caregiver Passes

Passes for babysitters, nannies, or caregivers are available for the 2016

summer season. Please contact the front office to obtain one for your

family. Please note that this pass is to only be used when the parents are

not at the pool. If the caregiver is accompanying the family to the pool, a

guest fee must be paid. We appreciate your cooperation. Please call the

office to obtain a pass or with any questions regarding caregiver pool

passes. The cost is $40 per pass.

Beltline Widening Update

A committee within the Club met on 4.12.16 with DOT Highway engineers and designers

as well as a private firm contracted to assist in the I-440 beltline widening project. Our

members and club staff prepared a detailed presentation for the meeting that was led by

our retained eminent domain attorney and her assistant. The group was given a tour of

both the interior and exterior parts of the facility with special emphasis on the eastern

most sections of the property most likely to be impacted by the project.

This group of club staff and members has been meeting for about 4 years and has now

been further augmented by the retained eminent domain attorney and club members

licensed as professional engineers with expertise and who practice as highway engineers.

The DOT website has the map that shows the potential impact.

Visit http://www.ncdot.gov/projects/i-440improvements/ to learn more.

A part of this meeting’s focus was to emphasize both our need and demand for advance

payment to make our facility whole and functioning as it is now if our facility is impacted.

Detailed design and environmental assessments of different alternatives should be

complete in late 2016. Once complete, NCDOT will hold another public meeting – in early

2017 – for input on the more detailed design and the results of the environmental

assessment. The project is not projected to start before 2018 and it could start on our end

or the south end, in which case the impact on the Club could be delayed several years.
