About the Programme

National Board of Accreditation (NBA) in its present form has come into existence as an

autonomous body with effect from 7th January 2010, under the aegis of AICTE, with the

objective of Assurance of Quality and Relevance of Education, especially in technical disciplines.

Accreditation is a process of quality assurance and improvement, whereby a program in an

approved Institution is critically appraised to verify that the Institution or the program

continues to meet and exceed the norms and standards prescribed by AICTE from time to time.

Washington Accord

The Washington Accord, signed among six countries in 1989, is an International Agreement

among bodies responsible for accrediting under graduate engineering degree programs. The

membership of Washington Accord is an international recognition of the quality of

undergraduate engineering education offered by the member country and is an avenue to bring

it into the world class category. It encourages and facilitates the mobility of engineering

graduates and professionals at international level. There are at present 15 permanent Members

of the Accord and 6 Provisional Members including India.

India represented by the National Board of Accreditation, New Delhi was accepted as a

provisional member of the Washington Accord in the year 2007 and is still holding the

provisional member status. By conferring provisional status, the signatories have indicated their

confidence that NBA-AICTE has the potential capability to reach full signatory status. NBA is

preparing to apply for permanent signatory status of Washington Accord

As per the requirements for becoming a full-fledged member of the Washington Accord and

meet international standard, NBA has revised in August 2012 the procedures and criteria of

accreditation of UG Programmes in Tier I and Tier II institutions to make it outcome based. NBA

has defined the required objectives and outcomes for an undergraduate engineering

programme. An engineering programme must therefore have a vision and mission statement,

which is in conformity with the vision and mission statement of the organization. The mission

must be translated into specific programme objectives and programme outcomes that are

expected of the educational process. The outcomes of a programme must be measurable and

must be assessed regularly through proper feedback for improvement of the programme.

In this Workshop, the features of the New Outcome Based Accreditation Process would be

discussed and the Participants will be guided about various parameters and requirements of

Outcome Based Accreditation in order to develop their competence in preparing Self

Assessment Report (SAR) for the accreditation of their programmes as per the new System.

-> Understand the features of the New Outcome Based Accreditation System for Tier I & Tier II
