Product description

EMC Navisphere Manager Version 6.22.0 for FLARE OE 03.22.yyy Release Notes

Product description

EMC Navisphere Manager is a centralized storage-system management tool for configuring and managing CLARiiON® storage systems. It provides the following basic functionality:

Discovery of CLARiiON storage systems Status and configuration information display Event management Storage configuration and allocation

Manager 6.X is a web-based user interface that lets you securely manage CLARiiON storage systems locally on the same LAN or remotely over the Internet, using a common browser. Manager 6.X resides on a CX3-series UltraScale or CX-series storage system that is running the Storage Management Server software, and is downloaded to the browser when the storage processor (SP) on the storage system is accessed.

Alternatively, Manager 6.X and the Storage Management Server software may be installed on Microsoft Windows 2000 or Windows Server 2003 servers.

Environment and system requirements

This section identifies the minimum environment and system requirements for Navisphere 6.22.

Client requirements for Management UI

The minimum Navisphere Manager client requirements for this release are:

A client platform of one 500-MHz CPU, with 256 MB of RAM. EMC recommends using a 1-GHz CPU, with 512 MB of RAM.

Internet Explorer 5.5 or greater, Netscape 6.0 or greater, Mozilla 1.0.1 or greater or Firefox 1.0 or greater.

A TCP/IP network connection to each SP in at least one AX-series, CX-series, or CX3-series storage system for each Navisphere domain you will create. This AX-series, CX-series, or CX3-series storage system must have the Navisphere Storage Management Server software and the Management UI installed on it.

A TCP/IP network connection to any management workstation running the UI and to each storage system or host managed by that workstation.

If you run the Manager client in a browser on a host that is connected to multiple networks where one of its IP addresses is a private network, you may not be able to manage storage systems on the private network.

Minimum screen resolution of 1024 x 768 and 256 colors with small fonts.

JRE revision (see the “Operating ” section). For Windows XP platforms, EMC supports only central monitoring.

EMC does NOT support any HBAs on Windows XP.

6

Environment and system requirements

EMC Navisphere Manager Version 6.22.0 for FLARE OE 03.22.yyy Release Notes

Although Manager is supported with JRE revisions prior to 1.4.2_11, it is highly recommended that JRE 1.4.2_11b01 be used in the management environment for the following reason.

For JRE revisions prior to 1.4.2_08

A vulnerability in the Java plug-in may allow an untrusted applet to escalate privileges, through JavaScript calling into Java code, including reading and writing files with the privileges of the user running the applet.

Please refer to the following links for more information:

http://www.kb.cert.org/vuls/id/760344 http://sunsolve.sun.com/search/document.do?assetkey=1-26-57591-1

For JRE revisions prior to 1.4.2_10

Several vulnerabilities in the Java plug-in may allow a remote applet to obtain privileges on the target system.

http://www.snpx.com/cgi-bin/news.cgi?target=www.securitytracker.com/id?1015596

For JRE revisions prior to 1.4.2_11b01

Prior java plug-ins do not include the updated daylight savings time dates and zone. Refer to the known problems and limitations section for more information.

http://sunsolve.sun.com/search/document.do?assetkey=1-26-102178-1

Manager is fully compatible with JRE 1.5.0_01. However, it is recommended that JRE 1.5.0_06 be used due to known performance issues with prior versions of JRE 1.5.0.

JRE 1.5.0_06 includes all of the security and daylight savings time updates that are listed in the above JRE 1.4.2 table.

Agent Properties dialog box. Host Description and Contact Person fields do not set values after a # is entered. [95544]

Do not use the # sign when entering values in the Host Description and Contact person fields.

Always

Navisphere UI is not functional on AIX. [110383] Use one of the supported operating systems to run the Navisphere UI.

Always

Newly bound LUNs. Newly bound LUNs do not always appear under the SP node in the tree after the bind is initiated and before it completes (when the SP node is expanded but the unowned LUNs node is not expanded). [102605]

Opening a new Enterprise Storage window will display the LUNs.

Rarely under a specific set of circumstances

Binding LUNs. All LUNs within that RAID group go to the transitioning state even though they are not all binding. [100125, 103006]

Wait for all bindings to complete before attempting operations on any LUNs involved in that transitioning RAID group.

Always

Netscape. Reloading Navisphere by retyping the IP in the URL will cause the new login window to fail. [100192]

None. Likely under a specific set of circumstances

Unsuccessful transmission of test response using ConnectEMC. [103490]

An error is given unless a timeout that is within the valid range is specified. The valid range for Dial Type responses is 1200 – 7200 and for IP Type responses is 300 – 3000.

Newly renamed template does not appear in the Navisphere UI. [103836]

1. Restart Management Server from the Setup page.

2. From the UI, select Main Menu > Event Monitor > Find and Resolve Template Conflicts.

Rarely under a specific set of circumstances

Expanding a faulted subsystem. Expanding a subsystem that is faulted may not show the fault in the subfolders, depending on the object that is faulted. [65817]

Use either the Faults dialog box to display the fault information, or expand the lower level folders to view the fault.

Always under a specific set of circumstances

UI limitations on Linux systems. The fonts in the Help windows on Linux systems may be small or difficult to read. [67043] Help topics display only the topic title on Linux 7.1 (2.4.4 kernel). [69719] The portal configuration dialog may be displayed on a Linux system in a very small window leaving most of the content obscured. The Setup page will not be displayed on a Linux system when it uses Netscape 6.01 and has more than one security account. [81741] There is a known issue in which Netscape 7.1 is incompatible with JRE 1.4.2 on the Linux platform. Java applications will not run in this configuration. [90683]

Try adding the font path specification, FontPath "unix/:7100", before any other font path specification in the /etc/X11/XF86Config file. Note that this change may impact fonts in applications other than Navisphere 6.0. None. Resize the window to a larger size. Upgrade to a revision greater than Netscape 6.01. Use Netscape 7.0 with JRE 1.4.2.

Likely under a specific set of circumstances

UI limitations on Solaris. The Setup page will be partially displayed on a Solaris system when it uses Netscape 6.01 and has more than one security account. [81742] Using Netscape 6.01 on Solaris, you cannot edit text boxes within the dialog boxes. [83594]

When selecting an icon field window in Solaris a null pointer exception appears in the Java console. [81818] With JRE 1.4.2 on Solaris, sometimes the icons in the tree appear black. [96125]

Upgrade to a revision greater than Netscape 6.01. Upgrade to a revision greater than Netscape 6.01.None. This is a known issue with JRE 1.4. Reboot your client machine.

Likely under a specific set of circumstances

Netscape Version 6.01 limitation. The UI cannot be displayed using Netscape 6.01 with User Management Ports set to 2162/2163. [69863]

Upgrade to a revision greater than Netscape 6.01.

Always

Adding, modifying, or deleting global information. Adding, modifying, or deleting global information from two different clients at the same time may result in one action not being saved. [65453].

None. Rarely under a specific set of circumstances

Expanding RAID group reports. When a RAID group is expanded to exceed 2.199 terabytes, the LUN bound in the RAID group will expand to 2 terabytes and the excess capacity will become unusable. You will not be able to bind another LUN despite the extra capacity in the RAID group. [81001]

None required. Always

MetaLUNs SP ownership. When a metaLUN is owned by a particular SP, and that SP is removed, the metaLUN is still shown as being owned by that SP. [85120]

None required. Always under a specific set of circumstances

Subnet filter. If you select the subnet filter while the Navisphere tree is populating with storage systems, the software restricts the subnet filter until you log out. If you attempt to filter by subnet before all storage systems have been added to the tree, the Filter for box will not get updated with new subnets as they are found. Only subnets that were found when Filter by subnet was selected will show in Filter for box until you log out and log back in. [87975]

Wait until the tree is fully populated before attempting to perform filtering.

Always

Unmanaged legacy storage system. The hosts associated with a storage system that was managed through a portal will still be shown in the Management UI if the storage system is unmanaged. [82060]

Restart the Management Server on both SPs. The Restart Management Server button is located on the Setup page of each SP.

Always

Trespassing a LUN. Sometimes, trespassing a LUN will not cause it to appear under the peer SP in the UI. The trespass has occurred, but the UI did not update. [102606]

Open a new Enterprise Storage window, or open a new browser window.

Rarely under a specific set of circumstances

13

Known problems and limitations

EMC Navisphere Manager Version 6.22.0 for FLARE OE 03.22.yyy Release Notes

Problem area and description Work-around Frequency

Exceeding the Java virtual memory limit. A large amount of UI activity can cause the UI to exceed its Java virtual memory limit, making the UI unresponsive. If the UI is left up and running for many hours, especially if it is an icon field during that time, the UI may be unresponsive when you try to use it again. This is because the UI is processing information even while it is idle. When you attempt to use it again, Java tries to allocate enough virtual memory to actively run Navisphere Manager again. However, depending on the information processed during the idle time, Navisphere Manager may require more Java virtual memory than is available. Running Analyzer charts or binding many LUNs can cause you to exceed the virtual memory limit even faster. [91672]

This happens because the default memory limit of the Java virtual machine is 64 MB, and is often too small. To decrease the probability of this problem occurring, set the Java virtual memory to the maximum allowed as follows: Go to the Java Plugin control panel. Under Java Runtime Parameters, type: -Xms64m -Xmx512m The –Xms parameter is the minimum virtual memory size. The –Xmx is the maximum size. The –Xms parameter should always be 64m . The –Xmx parameter should be chosen based on your PC configuration, but should never exceed your amount of RAM. In the above example, the maximum is being set to 512 MB.

Likely under a specific set of circumstances

Expanding a secondary image. If you expand a secondary image LUN (synchronized or asynchronized) so that it becomes a metaLUN, the UI will not update to show that the LUN is now a metaLUN. [104924]

Open a new Enterprise Storage window. This is a problem for secondary image LUNs only.

Always

LUN migration – New RAID type for a LUN. When a LUN migration results in a new RAID type for a LUN, the old RAID type is still used in the LUN's product identification string seen by any hosts attached to that LUN. The user should be aware of this when trying to map the LUNs from the host's point of view to the LUNs as they are displayed in Navisphere. [105965]

None. Always

Destroying a large number of metaLUNs. When a large number of metaLUNs is destroyed in one operation, a timing condition in the Management Server may result in a subset of the metaLUNs still being displayed in the UI when in fact, they have been successfully destroyed. [109415]

Restart the Management Server for both SPs. Enter <IP address>/setup to access the Storage Management Server Setup page. After logging in, click the Restart Management Server button.

Rarely under a specific set of circumstances

14

Known problems and limitations

EMC Navisphere Manager Version 6.22.0 for FLARE OE 03.22.yyy Release Notes

Problem area and description Work-around Frequency

Host LUN device names. Manager fails to show host LUN device names or mount points in the UI when loopback address is (incorrectly) registered from attached host. [116960]

Delete the host ID file on the server, restart the Host Agent to register the correct IP address and restart the Management Server on both SPs.

Likely under a specific set of circumstances

Setting the IP address. Setting the IP address through the Setup page occasionally results in a connection reset error message.[107408]

The IP is correctly set and the error can be ignored.

Infrequently under a specific set of circumstances

Running Windows-UI (off-array) on a Windows 2000 system. Invoking Programs > EMC > Navisphere Manager from the Start menu may encounter an intermittent error that says, Cannot find the file 'C:\Program Files\EMC\Management UI\6.17.0.1.4\WebContent\start.html’ (or one of its components). Make sure the path and filename are correct and that all required libraries are available.

Closing the error message box will start the Navisphere application.

Infrequently under a specific set of circumstances

Seldom UI process. Seldom UI process still in the task manager after closing the browser [119315]

End the browser process using task manager

Infrequently under a specific set of circumstances

Propagation delay. Propagation delay does not let a system be added to a domain, immediately after removing it from one. [120123, 120809]

Wait until the propagation is completed.

Infrequently under a specific set of circumstances

Faults dialog displays duplicate faults. Duplicate faults message for Legacy system present in local and remote domain. [124143]

None. Infrequently under a specific set of circumstances

Domain status. Domain status does not display fault status of the storage system. [124582]

Domain status displays the domain configuration; for fault status and other information refer to the tree in the Enterprise storage window.

Likely under a specific set of circumstances

Reserved LUN pool configure dialog. The reserved LUN pool configure dialog no longer listens for the changes and dynamic updates. [128604]

Close the dialog and re-open the dialog to see the update.

Always

Stopping a consistent session. Manager displays an error message when trying to stop a consistent session after some components of the session failed over. [123950]

Attempt to stop the session again.

Likely under a specific set of circumstances

2-gigabit point-to-point disk array enclosure. Navisphere Manager refers to the 2-gigabit point-to-point disk array enclosure as the “DAE2P” and the hardware manuals refer to this same enclosure as the “2PDAE.”

None. Always

Icon field window in Solaris. When you select an icon field window in Solaris, a null pointer exception appears in the Java console. [81818]

None. This is a known issue with JRE 1.4. SUN says “Closed, will not be fixed 4782196.”

Always

Templates are displayed as applied. User might see templates show up as applied under subsystem nodes in the Monitors tab. But these templates may not show up under the Templates folder. This may seem inconsistent but is an expected multi-domain behavior for Event Monitor. This means that the subsystem is available in a remote domain configuration for some other domain that holds that template.

None. Likely under a specific set of circumstances

LUN name characters. The LUN name has missing or different characters in the name. The CX700, CX500, CX300 and CX3-series storage systems do not support ASCII characters that are greater than 128. These characters will appear as spaces or different characters when output. [129547]

Do not use characters whose ASCII value is greater than 128 when creating LUN names.

Always

Communication error message: When pointing a pre-version 6.22 off array Manager at a version 6.22 storage system, you will receive an Unable to connect the provided IP Address and Port Number error message.

None. Always

2007 Daylight Saving Time changes: Beginning in 2007, daylight saving time in the U.S. will begin on the second Sunday in March and end the first Sunday in November rather than beginning on the first Sunday in April and ending the last Sunday in October. Due to these changes using a version of classic CLI older than version 6.22 or Manager that is not running JRE 1.4.2_11b01 will result in incorrect time displays and logging information.

Use version 6.22 Classic CLI and JRE 11.4.2_11b01 or JRE 1.5.0_06

Always

VNC table selection display in Linux: When remotely connecting to a Red Hat Linux 9 machine using VNC, the display color gives the appearance that table items are not selected when clicked on. [139679]

None. Likely under a specific set of circumstances

Browser hangs when initializing global security from the File menu: If the success message box is not closed within approximately 30 seconds the dialog will disappear and the browser will hang. [136312]

Restart the browser session. Likely under a specific set of circumstances

Unable to gain focus of ESW when browser session is open for a several days: The Enterprise Storage Window may loose the ability to gain focus if the browser session is open for several days. [134429]

Restart the browser session. Infrequently under a specific set of circumstances

Technical notes

This section includes important information, most of which does not appear anywhere else.

AX100-series and AX150-Series restrictions

Although AX100-Series and AX150-Series storage systems appear as CX-series systems within the Manager application, there are some restrictions on the AX100 system, which are summarized here with more details within the individual reference manuals:

SnapView sessions are always persistent. SnapView sessions do not support consistent start. SnapView clones are not supported. SnapView rollback is not supported. Only four SnapView snapshot (copies) are supported. AX150-series storage systems support eight SnapView snapshots SAN Copy/E supports copying data from the AX system only to a

CX400, CX500, CX600, CX700or CX3-series running SAN Copy. Only RAID 5, RAID 1/0 and hot spare RAID types are allowed. Only LUN expansion by concatenation is supported. LUN migration is not supported. Shutdown is supported. No performance statistics for either SP or LUN are reported. Software upgrade is disruptive, even with the Software Installation

Wizard.

Monitoring AX100-series and AX150-Series storage systems

AX100-series and AX150-series storage systems can be monitored with Navisphere Manager. These systems can still be managed by Navisphere Express. AX100 and AX150 storage systems that are being monitored by Manager cannot be managed with Manager. They cannot be expanded in the Enterprise Storage window; you will see only fault status. For AX100 storage systems with FLARE OE version 02.19.yyy and AX150 storage systems with FLARE OE version 02.20.yyy the monitored systems will display Needs Attention Status as well.

EMC Navisphere Manager Version 6.22.0 for FLARE OE 03.22.yyy Release Notes

Adding a storage system with a higher version of the FLARE OE to an existing domain

The Manager UI software manages storage systems running the same or lower versions of the FLARE OE. To add a storage system that is running a version of the FLARE OE that is higher than what is running on the storage systems in the existing domain, you can do one of the following:

Use a Windows off-array Manager UI.

By using an off-array UI, the UI runs on a local Windows server - there is no need to download the UI from the storage system.

Upgrade the Manager UI on the off-array server to the higher version UI.

The installation places a Navisphere icon on your desktop.

Double-click the icon, and then select the connection type and enter the IP address of one of the storage systems in the domain.

Use the Configure Domain dialog box to add the new storage system to the domain.

Use the multi-domain management feature (available in the FLARE OE, version 02.19 and higher).

A multi-domain environment consists of a group of domains that you can manage from a single instance of Navisphere Manager. The multi-domain feature allows domains that may be geographically dispersed, but are part of your storage enterprise, to be managed and monitored by one administrator — providing a more cohesive view of the enterprise.

Create a new domain and add the new storage systems to it.

Configure a multi-domain environment that includes the new domain and any existing domains.

iSCSI configurations

If you cannot add an iSCSI host to a storage group or the iSCSI host appears multiple times in Connectivity Status, it may be due to incorrect handling of case in the Microsoft Initiator. [116814]

If you manually registered an iSCSI initiator followed by a restart of the Host Agent, you may experience these connection problems due to the use of capital letters in hostnames. If you have capital letters in the hostname, perform the following steps to correct the problem:

1. Start the iSCSI initiator applet in the Control Panel on your host.

2. Select the Initiator Settings tab.

3. Select the change button at the bottom of the dialog. This will change the iSCSI name to lowercase.

4. In Navisphere, open the Connectivity Status dialog box and remove the manually created initiator record.

5. Reboot the host or restart the Host Agent to push the initiator to the storage system.

Managing version 6.22 storage systems from older UIs

Due to the introduction of dynamic security certificates in version 6.19, no icon will appear in the Enterprise Storage window for a version 6.22 storage system that is managed from a version 6.5, 6.6, or 6.7 (pre-patch) UI. There is no loss of functionality, since you cannot manage a storage system from a UI that is older than the management server on the storage system. What is lost is the icon in the Enterprise Storage window that shows the storage system as running unsupported server software.

Technical notes

EMC Navisphere Manager Version 6.22.0 for FLARE OE 03.22.yyy Release Notes

Supported platforms for CLARAlert

For this release, Windows 2000, 2003 and XP are supported platforms for CLARAlert® management station. Windows NT is no longer supported.

Invalid host configurations

A server cannot be connected to a CX-series or CX3-series storage system and an AX-series storage system at the same time.

Avoid migration of SAN Copy sessions

It is possible, though not desirable, to create a SAN Copy session, and then migrate either the SAN Copy source and/or destination before starting the actual SAN Copy session. Although this is allowed, it should never be done. The migration may cause the SAN Copy session to fail, especially if you migrate the SAN Copy source to a LUN that is larger than the SAN Copy destination. Do not migrate LUNs that are part of a SAN Copy session. [109921].

Physical capacity field of metaLUN properties

The physical capacity field of metaLUN properties indicates the user capacity (plus metaLUN overhead) of the metaLUN and not the physical capacities of the component LUNs.

Upgrading from Navisphere Express to Manager

An AX150 system running Navisphere Express version 6.20 can be upgraded to Navisphere Manager through the purchase of an optional software package. Once you upgrade a system, you cannot revert to Navisphere Express. Contact your service provider for more details.

Display of hosts in UI

A managed host will be displayed in the Hosts tab of the Enterprise Storage window. However, expanding the Hosts node in the Storage tab will not display the host unless it has been added to a storage group. Once the host has been added to a storage group, it will then be displayed under the Hosts node. [109267]

Configuring domains

When you add a system to a domain, if an existing system is immediately and automatically removed from the domain, there may be a problem with an internal domain identifier. Please call CLARiiON Product Support for help in resolving this problem.

Technical notes

EMC Navisphere Manager Version 6.22.0 for FLARE OE 03.22.yyy Release Notes

Java plug-in security warning

When you first connect to a CX-series or CX3-series storage system, you may see a Java plug-in security warning indicating that the certificate has expired. You can ignore this warning; Navisphere 6 was correctly signed with a valid certificate. This warning is due to an incompatibility between the signing tool and the JRE. Once you select Grant Always in the following dialog box, subsequent connections from that client system will not display the warning.

Windows Management Server setup with web server on the same machine

If you have a web server (IIS or other) running on the machine on which you have installed the Windows Management Server, you will not be able to communicate with Navisphere 6 Management Server using the standard ports (80/443). You need to use the Navisphere-defined ports by specifying:

/localhost:2162

Inconsistent display of host information

The display of hostnames, IP addresses, storage group membership, and other information in Manager may become inconsistent or inaccurate after performing any of the following:

Changing the IP address or hostname of a host Manually registering a host with information that is inconsistent

with its actual configuration Manually registering a host when the host is in an inaccessible state Adding new hosts to a configuration that contains unregistered hosts

If host information is displaying incorrectly in the Management UI, you should restart both the management servers and all instances of the Management UI to ensure that the host is properly managed.

Enter <IP address>/setup to access the Storage Management Server setup page. After logging in, click the Restart Management Server button. Repeat this procedure for the other SP. Any open management UI sessions should then be closed and restarted.

Technical notes

EMC Navisphere Manager Version 6.22.0 for FLARE OE 03.22.yyy Release Notes

No ACLs on FAT file systems

Files installed as part of the Off-Array Management Server installation are protected by ACLs (under NTFS). ACLs are not supported on FAT file systems, so the files that normally would be protected under NTFS are not protected.

Moving mapped LUNs from one host to another

In order to correctly see all host-related information for LUNs after moving them from one host to another, you must restart the Management Server on both SPs.

Enter <IP Address>/setup in the URL. After logging in, click the Restart Management Server button.

Managed devices and UI performance

EMC recommends that you limit to 30 the number of devices managed through one CX-series or CX3-series storage system. Managed devices include hosts, legacy agents, and NAS devices. They are managed through portal configuration. Exceeding 30 managed devices may result in performance degradation of the UI.

Number of systems in domain

EMC recommends that you limit to 90 the number of CX-series or CX3-series storage systems in a domain. Exceeding 90 may result in delayed replication of global information throughout the domain.

UI performance

Tree expansion and display of dialogs may be delayed depending on the number of objects (RAID groups, LUNs, and so on) that the user interface displays. With a node down in the domain, some operations may be delayed.

Running virus checker software on the UI client may result in slow startup times during applet loading.

Technical notes

EMC Navisphere Manager Version 6.22.0 for FLARE OE 03.22.yyy Release Notes

Unable to access security information error on login

Navisphere 6.X does not support management through a proxy. If you receive the error Unable to access security information after logging in, make sure that your browser is not set up to go through a proxy. If you are not using a proxy, close all of your browsers and clear the cache in the Java console.

Storage-system serial number

If different storage systems have the same serial number, Navisphere Manager may exhibit strange behavior. Make sure that different storage systems have different serial numbers.

If a storage system has no serial number, the storage system cannot be managed through Navisphere Manager 6.X. Make sure that the storage system SP has a valid, unique serial number.

Setup page

When you log in to the setup page, you may receive an indication that security is not initialized when it really is. If this occurs, point the browser at the setup page again, and then wait a moment before logging in.

Storage systems not in the domain appear on the Monitors tab

On the Monitors tab, a storage system that is not a member of the current domain, but that is physically connected to a storage system that is a member of the current domain (for example, SAN Copy destination) will appear under the Monitor icon.

Communication problems with a host

If you experience problems communicating with a particular host, restart the agents on those hosts. Refer to the appropriate CLARiiON Server Support Products Installation Guide for instructions on restarting the agent.

Network timeouts

If you experience network timeouts when you attempt to connect to the agent, you can increase your agent polling rate, especially with a wide-area network (WAN) configuration. You can also increase the network timeout for central monitoring if you experience timeouts when you centrally monitor other agents.

Technical notes

EMC Navisphere Manager Version 6.22.0 for FLARE OE 03.22.yyy Release Notes

Inaccessible storage system

If a host is attached to more than one storage system, and one of the storage systems becomes inaccessible, there will be two icons for that host in the Host tab of Navisphere Manager. One of these icons represents the inaccessible storage system. Do not apply a template to an empty icon.

Registering Tru64 HBAs to the storage system

When registering Tru64 HBAs to the storage system, the Tru64 hostname may not appear in the This HBA Belongs to dropdown menu.

Note: Tru64 attach platforms are not supported for the CX3-series storage systems.

Connecting a Tru64 host to storage groups

The Tru64 hostname on the Connect host to storage dialog box may not match the name of the host on the storage tab.

Note: Tru64 attach platforms are not supported for the CX3-series storage systems.

Binding and unbinding LUNs in NetWare

After unbinding a LUN, use the List Devices command to see the newly configured LUNs correctly. After binding a new LUN, use the Scan all Luns and List Devices commands to see the newly configured LUNs.

When binding or unbinding LUN 0, you will need to unload NavAgent.nlm if previously loaded, unload the driver, and reload the driver to see these changes to LUN 0.

The first LUN added to a storage group is identified as LUN 0 to NetWare. When you add or remove LUN 0 from the storage group, or otherwise modify LUN 0, you must unload and then reload the QLogic HBA driver. NetWare then recognizes the modified LUN 0.

Note: NetWare attach platforms are not supported for the CX3-series storage systems.

Access Logix and NetWare host

If you have any existing storage systems with the Access Logix option that are connected to NetWare hosts, and you want to use storage groups, you must unload and then reload the HBA driver after enabling data access for each such storage system.

25

Technical notes

EMC Navisphere Manager Version 6.22.0 for FLARE OE 03.22.yyy Release Notes

Note: NetWare attach platforms are not supported for the CX3-series storage systems.

Renaming a storage system or changing the Host Agent configuration

When you rename a storage system from Navisphere Manager using Set Name on the storage-system menu or change the Host Agent configuration using Manager or CLI, the comments in the agent.cfg file are removed when the requested changes take effect. Comments that previously resided in the agent.cfg file are thus permanently lost.

Using portal management for servers already managed

Navisphere automatically manages any server that is properly zoned and has registered with a storage system. Host icons will appear in the Host tab of the UI representing the servers. You should avoid attempting to manage these servers a second time through portal management. Portal management is used to manage a Host Agent on a server that is not automatically managed by the Management Server.
