Navarro County 4-H Newsbreak August 2011 New Enrollment & Re-enrollment Information: August 1st starts a whole new year of 4-H!! This is the time when we need to start new and re-enrollment for Navarro County 4-H membership. All 4-H members wanting to participate in ANY 4-H event for the 2011-2012 year will need to complete a green enrollment form. Green forms will be handed out at your first 4-H club meeting of the year starting in either August or September (some clubs will start in Septem- ber). If you have completed enrollment in the past years on 4-H Connect, you will not be able to do that this year. This year all 4-H enrollment will be in per- son at your club meeting. Youth must be enrolled by October 31st to be con- sidered a bon a fide 4-H member of Navarro County. New this year for enrollment is the PARTICIPATION FEE. There will be a $20 Participation Fee which has been set by the Texas 4-H & Youth Devel- opment. The fee is set state wide, therefore all 4-H members across the state will pay $20. Navarro County 4-H Newsbreak

August 2011 New Enrollment & Re-enrollment Information:

August 1st starts a whole new year of 4-H!! This is the time when we need to start new and re-enrollment for Navarro County 4-H membership. All 4-H members wanting to participate in ANY 4-H event for the 2011-2012 year will need to complete a green enrollment form.

Green forms will be handed out at your first 4-H club meeting of the year starting in either August or September (some clubs will start in Septem-ber). Plan on showing in the Fall?

Major Lamb, Goat & Swine Tag Orders– If you plan on showing at the Major Stock

Shows in the spring of 2012, (I know its still early!) please come by the Extension Office and

order your tags. Tags are $9.00 each, and you are able to show at the Texas Major Live-

stock Shows! Deadline for ordering tags is August 29th. Swine exhibitors have until Sep-

tember 9th! Late tags after August 29th are $20!! (If you validated your lamb, goat or pig for

the State Fair of Texas and you are planning on showing in the Spring then you have to re-

validate your animal)

Fall Stock Show Sign Ups- North Texas State Fair & Rodeo in Denton, West Texas Fair

in Abilene, East Texas State Fair in Tyler, State Fair of Texas in Dallas and Heart O’ Texas

Fair & Rodeo in Waco. Sign up for these shows will be Tuesday, August 9th from 5-7pm in

the grand jury room at the County Courthouse. Exhibitors and parents must be present to

sign up, bring your check books and social security numbers! Heifer exhibitors don't forget

your papers!!

Houston & NCYE Poultry Orders– the deadline to order birds for the Houston Livestock

Show and the Navarro County Youth Expo Poultry Shows is September 16th. Birds can be

purchased in increments of 25 and are $1.25/bird. The minimum amount to order per youth

is 25 and the maximum amount is 75. IF YOU WANT TO SHOW POULTRY AT EITHER HOUS-

TON OR THE NCYE YOU MUST PURCHASE YOUR BIRDS BY SEPTEMBER 16TH. THERE

ARE NO LATE ORDERS!! ORDERS WILL BE PICKED UP JANUARY 31, 2012 in College Sta-

tion.

Quiz Bowls– We have Beef Quiz Bowl and Horse Quiz Bowl! Each have a district contest

and can advance to state at the Texas 4-H Roundup! Quiz Bowl is done with a team of 4 and

can be with any 4-H member in the county. We also have Livestock Judging! Quiz Bowls

and Livestock Judging are in the Spring, generally after all the Major Shows are over with.

Don’t just settle for showing your animals, be competitive on a district and state level! Quiz

Bowl teams will meet in November and December! District Contest will be in April.

Project Trainings & Workshops

Navarro 4-H County Council meets every third Monday of the month.

If you are interested in Leadership Development, Community Service and expanding your 4-H involvement

on a county and/or district level then Council is just the place for you!

Council Meetings are always open to all 4-H members in Navarro County. However, it is highly encouraged

that if you are your club president and/or your club council representative then you are expected to attend

Council meetings.

This September we will have Officer Elections. Applications can be found online at http://

navarro.agrilife.org/ under the publications tab.

Council members will also be recruiting at the Back to School/Stay in Scholl Rally on August 13th.

Council Meetings are set for the following dates:

Food Challenge Workshops

Series will include Food Challenge rules, food and presentation preparation, district contest informa-tion, and new bucket check list. Great workshop for leaders and youth. R.S.V.P. to the Extension

Series will include new fashion show divi-sion, storyboard preparation, district contest

information and presentation building. Great workshop for leaders and youth. R.S.V.P. to

the Extension Office.

Got Bugs?

Friday, September 2nd at 7:30pm there will be a 4-H Entomology get together. We will go over

some entomology resources and the district 4-H entomology contest. Also, we will prepare your

very own kill jar used for collecting bugs later that evening out on the courthouse lawn. Bring a jar

with a lid to the meeting. R.S.V.P. to the Extension Office.

4-H County Photography Contest There are several new changes to the 4-H Photography Contest this year.

Please pay careful attention to the following deadlines and category changes.

For the County Contest you will submit photo’s the same way we have in

the past. Mounted on the 8x10 inch foam board. The deadline for the Navarro

County 4-H Photography Contest will be Friday, September 16th.

When you turn in your photo’s for the county contest you must also submit a digital copy of your

photo’s on either a USB Flash Drive or a CD. Images must be JPEG/jpg format and must not exceed 1 MB.

Go to http://navarro.agrilife.org for all the new Photography Contest Rules and Guidelines.

There will be no black & white divisions. All photographs must have been taken by the 4-H member

between the dates of October 1, 2010 and time of entry. Photo’s may be submitted only one time in one cate-

gory.

Please note that this is NOT the qualifying contest for the state senior contest that will be held in the

spring of 2012.

The Theme category will follow the 2011 Heart O’ Texas

theme, “Enjoy the Ride!” Photos in this category could include auto-

mobiles, boats, or any mode of transportation, amusement park

rides, horseback riding, bull riding, etc. capture the spirit of the

theme!
