Each year, Metro Vancouver Regional Parks hosts EcoBlitz – a chance to lend a helping hand to nature and show a little extra love for the regional parks you may hike, cycle, swim or picnic at the rest of the year.
EcoBlitz started in 2014 as a one-day event and has now grown to a week-long extravaganza with lots of hands-on activities across Metro Vancouver. Here are some of the fun and rewarding events that people took part in last year:• Invasive plant removal at Minnekhada Regional Park in Coquitlam• Planting trees and shrubs at Pacific Spirit Regional Park near Vancouver• Planting dune grass at the seashore of Boundary Bay Regional Park
in Tsawwassen• Helping collect salmon eggs at the hatchery at Tynehead Regional Park
in Surrey• Helping restore a wetland and pollinator meadow at Campbell Valley
Regional Park in Langley
This year, EcoBlitz is on from October 13 to 21 and will have more than 20 events across Metro Vancouver. For more details, just go to meetup.com and search “regional parks” to get to the Metro Vancouver Ecological Restoration Team’s Meetup site.

"We’re going to be Canadians a few years from now, proudly so. We’re from Iran. We’ve tried different places in Canada and decided this is the place to stay. Here you can see eternity. See? Look at that. It is really beautiful. I’m telling you it is spectacular. This is the unique thing about [Metro] Vancouver, to keep the nature just as is and preserving it. I’m sure the next generation will be proud of us for protecting the nature."
“After my son was born, I’d come here almost daily to walk in the park. I could see the changes in nature throughout the year and that really connected to me on how life is constantly changing. It kind of soothes the soul. I had a bit of post-partum depression and it sometimes felt scary. This, nature, was a place where I felt grounded and inspired. He’s 15 now. We will often go for walks together if he wants to talk about stuff. It’s been nice to do that together throughout our life."
