SMOKE VENTILATION MADE SIMPLE

Natural smoke and heat exhaust ventilators (NSHEVs) are installed to provide smoke-free escape routes in the event of a fire. As per the Construction Products Regulation, EN 12101‑2 is to be used for all NSHEVs. This standard defines the requirements and test methods for NSHEVs.

An NSHEV consists of the following components: a motorised drive with corresponding components (bracket, fittings), the filling (glass, panel) and the SHEV opening with corresponding components (profiles, seals, fittings) in the façade or roof.

EN12102‑2 PROFILE CERTIFICATION

Whether façade or roof, the possibilities for integrating D+H products into NSHEV solutions certified in accordance with EN 12101‑2 are multifaceted. There are many application possibilities that the D+H product portfolio offers in conjunction with the tested series of profiles by partner manufacturers. An approved NSHEV has passed the following tests:• Opening time ≤ 60 s• Aerodynamically acting surface• Functional safety• Snow load• Wind load• Low ambient temperatures• Resistance to heatThe tested components must not be replaced with other components.

The path to the CE marking and certificate of constancy of performance of the NSHEV:D+H Euro SHEV is an optimum solution for manufacturing an NSHEV. The profile system is tested and certified for this purpose in connection with the D+H drive systems. The window manufacturer uses these system tests.

The tested NSHEV can be recognised by the CE marking:

CONTROLS

Natural and smoke ventilation will generally require a control system. This may involve items such as thermostats, CO2 sensors, smoke sensors, wall switches, emergency call points and others, all of which can be provided as part of the requirement of modern buildings ventilation strategy.
