The Mode of Life of Priests That priests, through the modesty and humility of their lives,
commit themselves actively to a solidarity with those who are
most poor.
Our second collection today is for the Catholic Communication Campaign. This campaign connects people with Christ through the Internet, television, radio, and print media. Fully 50% of the funds we collect stay right here in the Diocese of Brooklyn to support local communications projects. The other 50% of the funds support national communications efforts as well as projects in developing countries. This collection connects people around the world to the Gospel message. Please be generous today!
We were created for community. Human beings are not meant
to be alone. As each of us grows in our relationship with Jesus,
we find ourselves drawn further into community. Our
stewardship never reflects just on us, but on the Body of Christ
to which we belong.
When speaking to his Father, Jesus always spoke about all of us
as a whole. Jesus has a unique relationship with each and every
one of us, but he also sees us collectively as one. When the
Holy Spirit was sent to assist us until the Second Coming, she
ascended upon a multitude, not just one person at a time.
We are called to live a fruitful stewardship way of life. It is by
that fruit that we can tell if we are really giving of ourselves in a
generous manner. However, the fruits that result from my
stewardship and your stewardship will never amount to more
than what we can produce together.
As you try ever harder to cultivate what God has given you and
offer it back to Him with an increase, what does your
relationship with your parish community look like? How has
your stewardship helped enable your community to become a
clearer reflection of God? It is important to reflect on these
things because we can sometimes find ourselves drifting away
from community if we are not careful. We are always stronger
together. We never want to wake up one day and find ourselves
alone.

7th Sunday of Easter
"So that they may be one, as we are one, I in them and you in
me." Does technology bring us together, or does it remind us
of distance and differences and keep us apart? Most days, I'm
not so sure. With the constant inundation of news from across
the world, it can be easier to tune out the sufferings and the
joys of people we'll never meet, in places we'll never visit. But
is this the invitation of Jesus?
Over the centuries, our Church has become truly universal
across the globe. There are Christians across nations and
cultures, across lines of rich and poor. There are Christians
who live behind white picket fences, and Christians dying in
conflict zones. "That they may all be one," Jesus prays. One in
what? Love. "That the love with which you loved me may be
in them." This is easier said than done, of course. The world is
far too vast for us to individually love every human being. I
can hardly remember the names of half the regulars at my
Sunday Mass! But that doesn't mean we can't try.
"I pray not only for them, but also for those who will believe
in me through their word." Jesus had this religious popular
explosion in mind. The mission and message of Christ was not
meant to stop in the Apostle's generation or stay cordoned off
in the geographic confines of Israel. Jesus' words at the Last
Supper are a prayer, a plea to the Father for the spread and
unity of the Church across time and space. This week, look up
organizations supporting the persecuted Church and make a
donation. Next week, visit a struggling parish within your own
diocese. When you meet someone new at hospitality Sunday,
invite them over for dinner to get to know them better.
Whether far off or close to home, let's allow Jesus' prayer to
live in us, to be drawn together in love.
Pray for the Deceased
May They Rest In Peace

the sick of our parish:
Almighty and Eternal God, You are the everlasting health of those who
believe in You. Hear us for Your sick servants… for whom we implore
the aid of Your tender mercy, that being restored to bodily health, they
may give thanks to You in Your Church. Through Christ our Lord.

Whether statues or stained glass, the image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus can be found in churches all over the world. Jesus looks down, one hand extended out and another pointing to a heart wreathed in thorns and glowing with light. In the Sacred Heart, we see both the sorrow and the joy of the life of Christ, who became one of us out of love. "Jesus knew and loved us each and all during his life, his agony, and his Passion and gave himself up for each one of us ? He has loved us all with a human heart" (CCC 478). In the Incarnation, God becomes man. Jesus experienced the fullness of humanity, including its sufferings. June 28th is the Feast of the Sacred Heart. We remember all that Jesus endured for us. We also remember why he endured it -- out of love.
