A Big Thank You to all who did come out to the Chiefs Tail Gate Party, Dec. 8th against the New England Patri-ots. WOW, we had some scrumptious Soups, Chili's, Chili Dogs, Snacks and

Well we DO have to Say, one of the Most Important and BEST was the WIN, against Poor Tom Brandy, not the G.O.A.T. for This Game, Go Patrick. Father Bob, See your Prayers and Positive WIN did work. Now, let us move forward week by week for advancements of MORE Wins in our NFL near future! GO CHIEFS!

Did you know that Nativity of Mary School receives approximately $200,000 each school year from grants, scholarships, donations and fundraising? These avenues of reve-nue are critical to the vitality of our school. The auction, Mouse Races, Santa-Cali-Gon Days, The Fire Foun-dation, Day of Giving, Ace Scholar-ships, scholarships from parishioners, Benchwarmers and matching grants from companies contribute to the gen-eral operation of our school. A huge Thank You to all who donate and make these events happen. Nativity of Mary School appreciates you!

December 15, 2019 - Third Sunday of Advent Put yourself in the scene of today’s Gospel passage. John the Baptist is in prison. He has heard stories of what Jesus is doing, and wants reassurance that Jesus is the long-awaited Messiah. John’s disciples and those who surrounded Je-sus were faithful Jews who would have known Isaiah’s prophecies by heart. God would send One who would bring sight to the blind, healing to those who were ill, salvation to all who longed to know God’s mercy and peace. Jesus’ response to the disciples’ question rings as powerfully in our ears today as it surely did for the people who were with him that day. His actions are precisely those that the people had been told to expect. Jesus is the One for whom the people have been patiently yet anxiously waiting, like the farmer who waits for the fruits of his labor. Jesus is the One for whom our hearts long. WAITING AND HOPING The people had been searching and waiting for generations for the Anointed One of God. They knew in their hearts that they needed someone to bring them back, to close the divide that had grown between God and God’s people. John’s baptism of repentance prepared them for the advent, or coming, of the Christ. John’s message of repentance and the demands of faith, of justice, and care for the poor and oppressed, while comforting to the weak and vulnerable, was challenging to those in positions of power. Like prophets before him, he refused to ignore the promptings of God to speak God’s word. And like many prophets who preceded him, John was imprisoned and eventually martyred. We can relate to the people who went out into the desert to be baptized. They heard John’s urgent call to repentance and his declaration that the Messiah was coming soon. They heard him express God’s care for those who needed it most. They were compelled to hear and respond. Their lives were changed, as their hearts were opened to the reality of God’s love to which John so powerfully gave witness. GOD IS WITH YOU We too ache for God’s healing and peace. We wait for God to break into our lives with love. Who among us has not at times felt weak, feeble, afraid? Take heart, you are not alone. God is with you. God is ready to save us from the dark-ness of sin and lead us to joy in the presence of God’s mercy. This is the message of Advent, and of the whole of the gospel: God desires so deeply to be with us that God came to be one with us in Jesus Christ. Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Company

Merry Christmas and a Blessed New Year

Another year of operations of the St. Mary’s Outreach Center has gone by. As the Board of Directors reflects this holi-day season, there are many people and organizations to thank. The support both financial and goods of all kind have been vital to serve an ever increasing number of those less fortunate. We wish to thank all of the volunteers who sup-port the operation along with our special angels through the different liturgical seasons. We also pause and think of a dear volunteer, Roberta Vargas, who lost her battle with cancer this past year as well as those who have also passed. As well, we would like to thank Father Bartulica and the staff for their continued support as well as the St. Mary’s Parish Knights of Columbus and St. Mary’s Parish Altar and Rosary Society. We would like to recognize the financial, food drives and volunteer support of St. Mark, St. Ann, Nativity of Mary, St. Joseph the Worker, Our Lady of Lourdes parishes as well as Nativity of Mary School. Have a Blessed Christmas and New Year. We pray that God will bless you as much as you’ve blessed us. We thank Him for your gifts, shared from a heart of love. We pray that God would touch you in a very special way and fill you more with his love each and every day. Your continued support in 2020 is appreciated.

GIVING THE GIFT OF WARMTH We are blessed to partner with the Knights of Columbus throughout the diocese of KCSJ in the Coats for Kids

Drive. The Knights have done an amazing job of rais-ing funds and providing coats for school children in need. We are hopeful that their example of generosity will spread as we begin our winter drive to collect, hats, gloves and scarves for our clients coming through the Welcome Center. This time of year is especially chal-lenging for the homeless and those in need. Please consider giving the gift of warmth this season by donat-ing to our drive.

This Advent, let us begin a habit of offering up our daily lives to Jesus in prayer and sacrifice...may it be for a family member or a coworker...let us let the Christmas spirit enter our prayer life more than our shopping bags! Let baby Jesus be born in a heart fully submitted to the Lord. A Catholic Moment reflection
