living in the trenches.

Can you guess who is riding this motorcycle in this 1922 picture? T.E. Lawrence… better known as Lawrence of Arabia. He played a significant role in helping the Arabs fight the Turks during World War I.

World War I was the first time that motorcycles were used in combat service on a large scale. Harley Davidson provided around 15,000 for military use during the War.

Not until 1901 did the Army and Navy

Nurse Corps allow women to serve.

Even then, only a few women were

selected. It was not until the United

States entered World War I that the

government realized the need for

using women in the War effort. All

women were called upon to serve in

any capacity. Women not able to go

overseas found many ways to

help on the homefront.
