International Women's Day represents anopportunity to celebrate the achievements
of women while calling for greaterequality. For the second year in a row,ICCR will be teaming with many, many
others in the community to create acelebration in the Capital Region. The
event will take place at the OpalkaGallery, 140 New Scotland Avenue, onthe Sage College of Albany campus.
There will be plenty of parking available.The event is FREE and open to the
public.

America’s ability to face the economicand security challenges of the 21st
century and seize new opportunities isdependent on an educated and informed
citizenry and workforce. AcademicWorldQuest is a unique opportunity to
expose our youth to the world outside ourborders and prepare them for the
challenges and the opportunities of the21st Century. Academic WorldQuest, aflagship program of the World Affairs
Councils of America that engages morethan 4,000 high school students annuallyacross the U.S. to test their knowledge of
global issues and foreign policy.

The International Center of the CapitalRegion, Rochester Global Connections
and the World Affairs Council of WesternMassachusetts in partnership with the
U.S. Department of State and Global TiesU.S., will be sponsoring a one-day
diplomacy summit entitled Women’sEmpowerment: Keys to Leadership.
The daylong event will explore integratinglocal and regional gender dimensions into
various dialogues and workshops as away of investigating gender barriers and
unleashing the productive potential ofwomen, and how all of this relates to
diplomacy and international exchange.Workshops throughout the day will drill
down into specific discussions such as ahistoric perspective, academic studiesand accomplishments, governmentalrepresentation, journalism, non-profitleadership, LGBT and human rights,
handicap and disability rights,entrepreneurialism, and sports
diplomacy. We are anticipating severalhundred attendees throughout the day
from upstate New York andMassachusetts, as well as individuals
from across the United States that sharea common interest in encouraging women
leadership.

ICCR is seeking three educatorsinterested in traveling to Turkey this
summerSpotlight on Turkey is sponsored by the
Turkish Cultural Foundation incollaboration with the World AffairsCouncils of America. The program
consists of a spring Teacher Workshop, aTeacher Study Tour in the summer, and a
public cultural program in the fall. Afull-day Teachers Workshop on Turkeywill be held on Saturday, April 9 in the
Capital Region. From those whoparticipate, ICCR will have an opportunity
to nominate at least three teachers toparticipate in a Study Tour of Turkey
during the summer. In the fall, ICCR willconduct one public program showcasingTurkey and Turkish culture. The programwill draw on the teachers who participated
in the study tour and will consist of avariety of cultural activities, including film
screenings, performances, food,discussion groups for the general public.Please let us know if you are interested.
ICCR Selected for New Initiative – The2016 Young Transatlantic Innovation
Leadership InitiativeJune 4th – 19th, 2016
The 2016 Young TransatlanticInnovation Leadership Initiative (YTILI)
is an international exchange programsponsored by the U.S. Department of
State, Bureau for European and EurasianAffairs, focused on the themes of
developing entrepreneurial skills andenhancing economic opportunities for
young professionals in Europe.Participants from around Europe will
spend three weeks in the United Statesworking at host institutions (NGOs,
private businesses, academic institutions,or local government offices) arranged by
selected Community-Based Members(CBMs) or other local organizationsbased on the participants' areas ofexpertise and professional goals.
Participants will be assigned a mentorand have the opportunity to participate inthe day-to-day operations of American
organizations and benefit fromjob-shadowing and professional
interaction with their American peers. ICCR will be seeking individuals in theCapital Region willing to serve as home
hosts for this program.

Facing the Global Immigration andRefugee Crisis

Keynoting the presentation will be MaherNasser, director of the Outreach Division
for the United Nations’ Department ofPublic Information (DPI). Mr. Nasser as
more than 28 years of work experience inthe United Nations during which he hasworked in various capacities in Gaza,
Jerusalem, Amman, Cairo, Vienna, andNew York. Mr. Nasser became director of
DPI’s Outreach Division in February2011. Mr. Nasser first joined DPI inJanuary 2006 as director of the UNInformation Centre in Cairo. Before
joining DPI, Mr. Nasser worked in variouspositions with the UN Relief and WorksAgency for Palestine Refugees in the
Near East (UNRWA) in Gaza, Jerusalem,Vienna, Amman, and New York and withthe United Nations Office on Drugs and
Crime (UNODC) in Vienna. Aftergraduating as a civil engineer from BirZeit University near Ramallah in 1986,
Mr. Nasser worked with twoJerusalem-based NGOs focusing ondevelopment and human rights. Mr.
Nasser also attended the Middle EastPeace Conference in Madrid in October
1991 and the subsequent bilateralnegotiations in Washington, DC, as thepersonal assistant to Dr. Haidar Abdul
Shafi, the head of the PalestinianNegotiating Team.
