National Tsinghua University Wins Supercomputing
Conference SCC Competitions with Acer Servers
National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) in Taiwan, using computing devices sponsored by the Acer
Server team, was named Overall Winner of the 2011 Student Cluster Competition at the SC11
Supercomputing Conference in Seattle, Washington. In the SCC competition, teams of
undergraduates compete to build a small computing cluster and then race to produce the greatest
sustained performance across a series of applications. The competition is designed to introduce the
current generation of students to the high performance computing community. In 2014, NTHU
students again won at the SCC competition, winning the highest LINPACK award using devices
provided by the Acer Server team.
During several months of preparation for the competition, the team, coached by NTHU Professors Yeh-Ching Chung and Che-Rung Lee, cooperated closely with Taiwan’s National Center for High-Performance Computing, Acer, and NVIDIA Corporation during the pre-testing process to enhance and optimize the software and server hardware.
