The sitting room and dining room look out to the sea and the beach, as do the single and double bedrooms on the first floor. The kitchen has a back door that opens up onto a small and secluded back garden. The cottage has oil fired central heating, a stove burner and additional portable oil fired electric radiators. The land immediately around the cottage is reasonably flat. There is a stoned, flat and private driveway in front of the cottage secured by a farm style gate. The approach road to the house is a narrowish lane offering access to the beach and to the Cushendun GAA playing grounds. The Cottage is arranged as follows: Entrance hall, sitting room, kitchen, dining room, and bathroom on ground level, double bedroom, one twin bedroom, and one single bedroom on the first floor. National Trust Cottages Accessibility Guide Strand House

Introduction

• Strand House is a double storey detached country house located on the Cushendun Warren,

beside the beach with views across to Scotland.

• The sitting room and dining room look out to the sea and the beach, as do the single and

double bedrooms on the first floor.

• The kitchen has a back door that opens up onto a small and secluded back garden.

Approach

• The cottage is approached via major roads in the direction of Cushendall and then approximately 6 miles of country roads to Cushendun and a 100 meter lane.

Arrival & Parking Facilities

Getting in (and out) of the cottage • The main entrance is the front door which has a clear opening width of 84cm. There are

two steps from the stoned path way, one small 5cm step on to a concrete second step which is 14cm onto the ceramic tiled floor in the entrance hall.

• The back door has a clear opening of 82cm and is a stable door. The key safe is on the left hand side of the door as you face it, at a height of 99cm (from ground level). It is operated by a combination lock mechanism. There is a small step up from the concrete

path outside the back door (3.2m long) which is 4cm high. Front door Back door

Getting around the cottage

• There is a ceramic tile floor covering in the kitchen, shower room, living room and hall.

• There is carpet in the dining room.

• There are wooden floors in all the first floor rooms with small rugs.

• All internal doors clear opening widths are 76cm.

• There is a large rug covering the majority of the floor space in the sitting room.

• The stairs have a wooden bannister on the left hand side, the individual stair height is 21cm,

the distance from the top of the individual stair tread to the bannister is 95cm.

• The width of the stairs is 78cm wide.

• There is a large farm gate to the main driveway and parking.

• There is a small red gate to access the narrow side garden 85cm wide.

• There is a wooden gate from the side garden to the public pathways, warren and beach

which is 93cm wide.

• Circulation space in double and twin bedrooms, sitting room, dining room, bathroom and

kitchen is good.

• Single bedroom has limited circulation space.

Kitchen

• The kitchen is to the rear of the property.

• There is an external door to the back garden

• There is a door leading into the rear hall area 76cm wide

• The height of the worktop is 92cm.

• There is an electric cooker with controls to the front and a ceramic hob with controls to the top which are 94cm high.

• There is a fridge freezer, microwave, washer/dryer, dishwasher, cordless kettle and toaster.

• The sink has a lever mixer tap. • There is a central pedant light.

• The window overlooks the garden and field.

Dining Room

• The dining room is to the front of the house

• The window overlooks the driveway and has sea views.

• There is a door to bathroom and door to hall.

• There is a dining table and six chairs.

• The table has knee clearance of 62cm.

• The dining chairs are upholstered with a wooden backrest and are 45cm high.

• The internal doors are 76cm wide.

• There is a central ceiling light.

Bathroom

• The bathroom is off the downstairs hall.

• The height of the bath is 57cm high.

• The WC is 43cm high.

• The basin is 87cm high.

• There is a central ceiling light fitting.

• There is a wall fitted shaving light

• There is a mirrored bathroom cabinet and separate shaving mirror.

• There is a lockable door into the dining room.

• The shower is within the bath and is of adjustable height.

Rear Hall, Stairs and Landing

• Doors to bathroom, and sitting room access to main staircase.

• Ceramic tiled floor.

• Central light.

• The stairs are hard wood finish and the steps are 21cm high.

• The top of the stair tread to the bannister is 95cm.

• The landing is 109cm at its narrowest width.

• There are 3 bedrooms off the landing.

• There is a low window with sea views.

Sitting Room

• The sitting room is approached from the entrance hall.

• There is a window overlooking the front garden with sea views and a window to the side overlooking the small side garden and with views of Cushendun harbour.

• There is a central ceiling light.

• There are three winged armchairs with a lowest seat height of 43cm rising to 47cm and one

sofa with a seat height of 43cm. • The ceramic tiled floor is covered with a rug.

• There is a TV with separate DVD player situated on a corner unit.

• There is a nest of side tables lowest in height being 51cm high.

• There is a free standing lamp, coat stand, and dresser.

• There is a small free standing corner unit.

• There is a multi fuel stove.

• There is a digital radio.

• Underbed storage hosting extra pillows 5cm off the floor.

• There are two bedside tables 79cm high with table lamps and a ceiling light.

• There is a wardrobe with a clothes rail at 178cm from floor level and a rail at 138cm from

floor level.

• The wardrobe has a full length mirrored door.

• There is a chest of drawers at a height of 124cm with a free standing table top mirror.

• There is a luggage rack.

• There is a hard floor and two rugs.

• There are two windows one overlooking the gardens to the rear and one overlooking the

garden to the front and the sea.

• There is one full length mirrored door on the wardrobe.

• There is a hard floor and two rugs.

Garden

• The garden is on three sides of the cottage.

• There is a farm gate at the entrance to the house and garden.

• The garden is large with grass, trees and shrubs.

• The garden can be accessed by both the front and back doors.

• A stoned driveway runs between the front and back gardens

• The side garden is a narrow grassed area accessed by a small red gate 85cm wide.

• There is a wooden gate to then public pathways and beach 93cm wide.

• The land the house sits on runs down on to the beach and is gently sloping and uneven.

• There is a fixed table with bench seating in the garden.

• There is a washing line.

Additional Information

• Assistance dogs are welcome at all our cottages

• In the event of a fire, it is the responsibility of the guests to evacuate themselves. Vibrating fire/smoke detectors are available if requested at time of booking. Please contact us if you have any other specific access requirements in this respect.

The National Trust aims to expand the list of accessible /equipment/items available at each cottage and these may include
