    INTRODUCTION(1)

    Croatia has eightnational parks: Brijuni,Kornati, Krka, Mljet,Paklenica, Plitvice Lakes,Risnjak and North

    Velebit

    Their total area is 994km; 759 km is land and235 km is water

    PLITVICE LAKES Most popular Croatian national parkWoody mountainous region with a string of 16 smaller

    and larger lakes of a crystal blue and green color

    National park since April 8, 1949.

    Mljet is often referred toas the most beautiful

    Adriatic island

    According to one myth,Mljet was part ofOdysseus route and

    FLORA

    The Risnjak massif has always been known for its rich flora

    Relatively high number of species, up to 1148 species andsub-species

    The National Park includes an exceptional diversity oforchids, from which many are rare and threatened

    FAUNA

    The park is home to animals such as the brown bear, reddeer, weasel, squirrel and so on

    The most important animal used to be the lynx, after whichRisnjak got its name

    Risnjak is one of the rare key areas in Europe where the lynxsurvives

    TOURISM Tourist offer consists of the possibility of touring and active

    holiday

    Risnjak has specific tourism offer and is suitable for thearrival of certain types of visitors

    Lovers of active holiday can take a mountain bike ride,special places for game observation or sports fishing

    Negative impacts of Tourism

    Negative impacts can be affected through: killing animalsthrough hunt, destruction of vegetation by collectingherbs

    Depletion of natural resources: water resources, localresources, land degradation

    Pollution: Air pollution and noise, solid waste andlittering, sewerage, aesthetic pollution

    Physical impacts: Construction activities andinfrastructure development, deforestation andunsustainable use of land

    Jobs for local people

    Income for the local economy

    Helps preserve rural services like buses, village shops andpost offices

    Increased demand for local food and crafts

    Tourists mainly come to see the scenery and wildlife, sothere is pressure to conserve habitats and wildlife

    National Park since 1980. Group of about 130 islands, islets and reefs, covering an area of

    about 64 sq km

    Located between ibenik and Zadar islands

    Rugged shores with many caves and coves

    There are more than 650 plant species, some of which arerare and endangered

    The landscape of chalk limestone is covered with bushes of

    Underseas The sea around the islands is rich with fish and a variety

    of marine life

    The Kornati NP has 353 species of algae, 3 species ofunderwater flower plants as well as about 850 animal

    The Krka National Park was proclaimed in 1985, asthe seventh national park in Croatia

    Located near ibenik, covers a total area of 109 sq km

    The Krka river flows through the Dalmatian region

    Three types of areas within the Krka river basin:mountains, fields and plateaus

    Total number of seven travertine waterfalls

    Most famous are: Rokislap, Skradinski buk,Ronjakand Manojlovac

    The travertine waterfalls are very sensitiveformations to environmental change and humanactivities

    About a hundred caves and pits along the courseof the Krka River
