Racquet Sports

Nate Griffin, USPTA

Director of Racquet Sports

[email protected]

Nate's Tips of the Week:

Technical: On the forehand drive preparation, you should be able to keep the non-dominant hand on

the throat of the racquet and in the up position at least until your opponent’s ball lands on your side of

the courts as this will allow you to time and relax your stroke in a more efficient way. (UNLESS....the

opponent's ball is very fast, very deep, or landing at your feet!)

Strategy: Use the slice (underspin) shot to approach the net in singles or doubles as this will keep

the ball low (hopefully) and force the opponent to hit up on the ball and this will also allow you to have

more time to approach the net and improve your position before hitting the volley.

Equipment: Use tourna grips (dry version) in the humid weather, bring a large towel, plenty of

wristbands or compression sleeves. Also, work on holding the racquet by the throat and not the grip

in between points. It would also help to buy 4 or 5 racquets like the professionals! See the Pro Shop

staff for discounts!

Sportsmanship: Compliment your opponent more often instead of scolding yourself for losing the

point as this will actually help you self-coach yourself in a more positive way and your opponent will

enjoy the friendly "nice shot" once in a while!

Drill challenge: 100 ball rally with your hitting partner

with no mistakes from service line, and then

baseline! See me for some free grips if you can do this!

Sabina Hart

Fitness Director

[email protected]

Sabina has recently earned her

TPI Level II Golf Fitness Certification.

TPI (Titleist Performance Institute) is the world's leading educational organization dedicated to the study of

how the human body functions in relation to the golf swing.

Golf fitness is about being fit to play the game at an individual’s highest level and doing so without causing

injury. It’s about understanding how a body’s limitations can influence the golf swing and how to address

those limitations through the proper channels—whether it’s through swing instruction, physical rehabilitation,

strength and conditioning exercises, or a combination.

TPI certification equips a professional to screen for and identify bodily limitations that may be causing

inefficiencies in the swing. After assessment, tailored training programs are developed to support the

findings, first through the base foundation of mobility and stability, and then through proper strength and

power progressions.

CONTACT SABINA TO SET UP A FREE TPI PHYSICAL SCREENING TODAY!

Face Covering Reminder:

Face coverings are required when entering, walking around, etc., but may be removed during active exercise if you are able to keep six feet of distance from others.

Sabina is a NASM Certified Personal Trainer (CPT), Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES), Fitness Nutrition Specialist (FNS), Titleist Performance Institute (TPI)

Level I Certified for Golf Specific Training, NASM Golf Fitness Specialist (GFS), and TRX Functional Training certified.

Class Descriptions

Stretch & Restore Feeling a bit off balance, out of sorts, achy and stiff? This low intensity class will improve balance and posture, while alleviating tightness and inflexibility by incorporating stretches, balance work, and targeting pressure points to help lengthen muscles, increase range of motion, reduce stiffness and achy knots, stimulate blood flow to tight muscles, bring balance to your body, and speed up recovery from physical activity. You’ll leave feeling restored and able to take on your usual activities with more effortlessness, mobility and ease. Trouble Zone Tone A total body strength and toning workout designed to target those notorious trouble zones with upper- and lower- body sculpting exercises to help torch fat faster and tighten your problem areas. So come on in to lift your seat, tone your thighs, sculpt those abs, and say goodbye to those muffin tops and wobbly arms! Dumbbells and some accessories may be used. Low impact and appropriate for most fitness levels. Water Works Low impact combination of cardio, strength and stretching exercises performed in the pool—fun and great for beginners and all levels. This water aerobics workout builds strength, improves balance and burns calories in an energetic atmosphere with music. Best of all, it is low impact and reduces stress on joints and muscles while allowing you to focus on quality resistance training. Dive on in for a splashing good time! Yogalates Incorporating breath for mind-body connection, “Yogalates” creates strength and balance from every exercise or asana for spinal alignment. This class will make you more "mindful" of your body by creating a relaxed mind during and after practice, improving overall well-being and happiness. With practice, you’ll find yourself much more efficient in your ability to “stabilize” overall.

Please bring a yoga mat, water bottle and towel to indoor classes.

For water aerobics, arrive in swimwear and bring a pool towel. Water shoes are recommended.

Aqua Tone Power through the water in this full-body sculpting cardio and strength routine. Increase muscles definition, burn calories, improve flexibility and mobility, and have fun without all the stressful impact on joints. Walk out feeling tall, toned, refreshed, stretched and energized. Cardio-Dance Get a great cardio-dance style sweat going while having fun! Your body will be shaking through a variety of exciting dance combinations while torching away calories! This class will also incorporate a light dumbbell workout that will take you through a variety of exercises while moving to the beat of the music. We will finish off the class with abdominal work to tighten up the core from the inside out. All fitness levels welcome! Cycle Xpress An invigorating 40-minute ride on a stationary spin bike—great for ALL FITNESS LEVELS! Your instructor will lead you through an exhilarating journey of hills, runs, sprints and flats while listening to energizing music. Challenge your body to get strong, fit and lean in this fun cardio workout! Water and a towel needed. Gentle Yoga A gentle yoga flow to promote strength, flexibility, and balance. Students will be introduced to yoga postures through step-by-step verbal description and demonstration. Emphasis is placed on safety, understanding, and stability within each pose. Step off your mat feeling refreshed, nourished, and energized. Cardio-Sculpt & Abs An all-encompassing workout that combines strength and resistance for improved muscle tone, challenges your endurance/cardiovascular system to get your heart going and calories burning, and fires up your core/abs. Pilates In this mat Pilates class, primary focus is placed on postural and core muscles that provide support to the spine. Regular Pilates exercise strengthens the deep torso muscles and brings breath awareness and spinal alignment. If you want to increase flexibility, core strength and develop or maintain a balanced, well-postured body, then this class is key.

With rain or inclement weather, water aerobics will be cancelled & instructor may or may not offer indoor

aerobics, depending on interest (min. 3 participants). Bring change of clothes/shoes.
