Dear Members of National Multicultural Diversity Institute: (NMDI)

Welcome! It is a privilege to, once again, have you in our building for

this very special 27th Annual Multicultural Diversity Day Celebration!

The NMDl's work to foster multi-cultural respect, understanding,

appreciation, and awareness is outstanding and so needed, especially in today's

world. As an organization that strives to enhance lives through the art of music,

dance, and theatre, we here at the Flint Institute of Music (FIM) are very aware

of the importance of acceptance and unconditional caring for everyone who

enters our doors.

Thank you, on behalf of the FIM staff, for your unwavering

commitment and outstanding leadership. We are proud of our partnership with

the NMDI, and congratulations on 27 years of excellence!

Sincerely,

Cleorah Scruggs-DeBose, Founder & President of NMDI

Hello (English) Buenos Dias, (Spanish) Shalom, (Hebrew)

Assalamu Alikum (Arabic) Bonjour, (French) Jambo, (Swahili) Namaste, (Hindu) Guten Morgen (German) etc.

NATIONAL MULTICULTURAL DIVERSITY INSTITUTE

We thank God, President Lontine & Flint Institute of Music, NMDI,

Founder & President, Cleorah Scruggs-DeBose & Paul DeBose & our Families,

NMDI members, Sponsors, Clark family & other supporters, program participants,

audience, and all who contributed to the success of this program.

National Multicultural Diversity Day (NMDD) started in my classroom and

was adopted by the National Education Association which currently represents

approx. 3 million educators. In 2000 (NMDD) grew and became National

Multicultural Diversity Institute (NMDI) with a 501 c 3 non profit status. From

1996 to the present NMDI’s Caring Is Sharing Community Outreach has been

giving annually to many charitable organization.

Multicultural Diversity Day can help increase awareness of the tremendous

need to celebrate diversity collectively. This day of celebration is to give tribute to

the strength and beauty that multicultural diversity brings to America. This kick off

celebration can serve as a catalyst for ongoing teaching and learning programs.

NMDl's Mission: To promote mutual awareness, understanding, respect,

and appreciation for different cultures.

MNDI's Strategy and Methodology also includes: Forums for multicultural

diversity day (s) celebrations, festivals, workshop presentations, curriculum

development, publications, scholarships, etc.

NMDI’s Motto: To Love the Creator and our neighbors as ourselves,

showing love starting at home and then spreading aboard.

Let this Multicultural Diversity Day Celebration, other programs, as well

as everyday experiences provide great opportunities for each one of us to check our

own biases as well as reach out and get to know someone better, who is different

than we are. A difference may be in language, gender, nationality, ethnicity,

religion, or one may be physically challenged or the difference may be in other

areas of diversity. Still we all smile in the same language. Quite often we will find

that after we really get to know our neighbors, our similarities outweigh our

differences. As a result more appreciation, respect, and peace can develop and lead

the way for our neighborhoods, and global communities to become a better place.

“To melt the divisions, and dividers of anti-diversity, try an OD (overdose) of

Love, and heaping spoonfuls of kindness one to another” (C. S. DeBose)

DIVERSITY QUOTES

“Men hate each other because they fear each other, and they fear each other because they don’t know each other, and they

don't know each other because they are often separated from each other." (Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.)

"We must be the change we wish to see in the world. " (Mahatma Gandhi)

“We allow our ignorance to prevail upon us and make us think we can survive alone, alone in patches, alone in groups,

alone in races, even alone in genders.” (Maya Angelou)

“To succeed internationally, we need to understand the cultures of the world; and we have all cultures of the world represented

right here-a tremendous competitive advantage.” (Ernest Thompson, Proctor and Gamble)
