WHILE CURRENT MEMBERS HAVE AN AVERAGE AGE OF 62 YEARS, ALL CURRENT AGE GROUPS HAVE A VERY SIGNIFICANT PREFRENCE FOR NEW MEMBERS TO BE AGED 35-49 YEARS RATHER THAN 50-64
IMPLICATIONS IN MEETING NEEDS OF MEMBERS AGED 35 – 49 YEARS
IT IS OBVIOUS THAT IF WE WISH TO TARGETPERSONS AGED 35 – 49 YEARS, SO AS TO MEETTHE NEEDS OF THE MAJORITY OF CURRENTMEMBERS (REGARDLESS OF AGE), IN THEOPERATION OF OUR CLUBS, WE NEED TOENSURE THEY APPEAL TO PERSONS AGED35 – 49 YEARS – HOW THEREFORE, DOES THECLUB CARE SURVEY RESULTS HELP US?
HELPFUL POINTERS
THE VERY GOOD NEWS With the vast majority of issues surveyed,
the needs of persons aged 35 – 49 years are the same or little in difference to those of other age groups – however there are some areas of difference, although these differences in most cases are not large
THE DIFFERENCESNATIONAL ANTHEM FREQUENCY
35-49 50-65 65 & OverHave at every Meeting 16% 22% 28%Every second Meeting 3% 3% 4%Only at Special Meetings 36% 36% 34%Prefer not at all 30% 27% 20%
It would seem there is less support for the anthem among thoseaged 35 – 39 .. While support is stronger in the older age groups, even there, a combination of the last two answers is greater than50%
THE DIFFERENCESTOAST TO MONARCH FREQUENCY
35-49 50-64 65 & OverHave at every Meeting 40% 49% 63%Every second Meeting 5% 5% 6%Only at Special Meetings 16% 17% 13%Prefer not at all 25% 21% 10%
Again there’s less support than that in the older age groups
THE DIFFERENCESA CHRISTIAN BASED INVOCATION
35-49 50-64 65&OverEvery Meeting 35% 45% 55%Every second Meeting 7% 6% 7%Only Special Meetings 13% 9% 6%Non Christians say theirs 6% 5% 4%A period of silence 4% 3% 2%Not at all 16% 13% 8%Only 42% aged 35 – 49 seek a Christian based invocation at every orevery second meeting, similar to the 39% who gave one of the otheranswers shown
OTHER DIFFEERENCES
We’ll now have a look at issues where there is a marked difference in view between members in accordance with the century in which they were inducted
PARTNER IS A LION
Joined last century 17%
Joined this century 31%
This is good news as we can now more often expect two members from the same household – since this survey was conducted the Family Membership Dues concept has been introduced where the second person receives a 50% reduction in the International and Multiple District portions
ONLY 1 NON BOARD MEETING PER MONTH
Last Century This CenturyHave that now 26% 29%Would welcome the change 9% 11%Would not be concerned 14% 16%Would have minor concerns 13% 13% Total 62% 69%Would have major concern 29% 17%
These results reflect a move to a lesser number of meetings, perhaps indicative of lifestyle changes brought about by family and workplace requirements
NUMBER OF GUEST SPEAKERS
Last Century This CenturyHave the right number 58% 67%Not enough 38% 28%Too many 1% 1%
Just over 1 in 4 joining this century want extra guest speakers, whereas this rises to nearly 2 in 5 among longer serving members
VISITS TO OTHER CLUBS
Last Century This CenturyHave the right number 42% 54%Not enough 53% 39%Too many 0% 1%
Clearly, even though around 2 in 5 who joined this century would like an increase in the number of visits to other clubs, as a group they are certainly more satisfied than those who joined last century
BACK TO THE ANTHEM & TOAST TO THE MONARCH
Anthem Toast Century Century Last This Last ThisEvery meeting 26% 20% 60% 44%Every second meeting 4% 3% 6% 4% Total 30% 23% 66% 48%Only at special meetings 34% 37% 14% 19%Not at all 24% 25% 14% 21% Those now joining (62% of them) opt for the anthem at special meetings
or not at all – support for the toast is much stronger with both groups, however while it has 66% support from those who joined last century, this falls to 48% among those who’ve joined this century.
AND THE CHRISTIAN BASED INVOCATION
Last Century This CenturyEvery meeting 54% 37%Every second meeting 7% 6%Only special meetings 7% 10%Non Christians say there’s 4% 6%A period of silence 2% 4%Not at all 10% 14%Not stated 11% 11% As can be seen many now don’t want such an invocation
NO SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCES, HOWEVER LET’S LOOK AT ETHICS & OBJECTS/PURPOSES
Ethics Purposes Century Century Last This Last ThisEvery meeting 53% 56% 46% 52%Every second meeting 23% 15% 23% 16% Total 76% 71% 69% 68%Only special meetingsand inductions 20% 22% 20% 23% New Total 96% 93% 89% 91% There are no major differences – so continue with confidence
