Introduction

This Directory is intended to provide information on how to gain access and utilize the special collections that are currently housed in the libraries in some of the major zoos of the world Since these collections contain many interesting and unique materials it may be of use to researchers zoo keepers authors educators etc to know that they exist and who to contact for access

Each record for a zoo library contained in the Directory contains the following types of information institutional name and address contact information website addresses size and types of materials in the collection types of patrons accommodated services and special notes about the library and the collections

There are a few changes from the original document that have been made for this web-based version Some additional access points have been added to some of the records to include World Wide Web site and email addresses The bibliography on the role of zoo librarians that appears in the original document is not included here
