KEY INFORMATION
He was the art director for “Raygun”
He used repeated texts, incorporated splodges
and had a very chaotic style
Created most major “Raygun” posters in the
1990’s
Grunge music was very popular – influenced a
particular design style called the “dirty grunge”
movement where incorporated the music’s style
into their work. The designs also used muted
colours and had a messy/ urban edge.
Carson was known as “The Father of Grunge”.

The two people featured on the cover are brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher, the lead members of Oasis.
The magazine is completed in Carson’s signature grunge style.
The magazine cover is made using Photoshop and ink.

Carson has used dull colours to create an urban style and has used the ink splodges to create a grunge effect. Oasis were also a popular Grunge band at the time.

The text is irregular and “Oasis” has been reflected.
Repeated idea from the graphic of the two brothers, to show the band needs both brothers.
Irregular font helps to create urban/ grunge style.

Grey is used in the background, the images and lettering are black/ dark grey, there is orange is the ink splodge.
What effect do the colours have on the design?
The grey/ dark colours suggest are urban feel. The orange is used to create a grunge style and draw your eye to the image of the brothers.
