Here is exciting news about our monthly photo contest. In addition to our photo of the year contest that we announced last meeting, we are also going to have prizes for our monthly contest winner. Next Meeting: January 20

Mark Currier will be the speaker for our January meeting. He will discuss night and low light photography.

Basic Digital Photography ClassA class covering the basics of digital photography is given before each of our meetings beginning at 6:30. If you are new to photography or just need to review some of the basics this would be a good place to start.

Meeting Time & Place: We meet on the third Tuesday of every month at 7:00 PM at First Baptist Nashville, 7th and Broadway in downtown Nashville. Go behind the buildings and park in the small fenced lot just behind the East Building at 6th & Broadway. See on a city map or parking lot map and di-rectionsFuture Programs: If you have any suggestions, e-mail them to Rod Shean, or let him know at the next meeting.

Membership DuesThe membership dues are $20.00 per year. Checks are made payable to the Nashville Photography Club. We began collecting dues for the new year at the July meeting. George Lepp Seminar: The Photographic Society of Chattanooga is pre-senting a seminar with George Lepp on Saturday,January 31. The cost is $24 to non-members of their club and pre-registration is required. After January 22 a $6 late fee will be charge. Go to www.chattanoogaphoto.org for details and a regis-tratiion form. At our January monthly meeting we will discuss the possiblity of car-pooling to the event.

George Lepp was in Nashville last year for a seminar and the reviews were exceptionally good for his presentation. He writes a monthly column for Outdoor Photography magazine and is well known for his work.

Rocky Mountain School of Photography Seminar:

On Saturday and Sunday, February 14 and 15, The Rocky Mountain School of Photography will present a weekend seminar. It will be at the Preston Hotel on Briley Parkway in Nashville. Visit the website www.rmsp.com/weekends for more information. One day price is $129; the two day price is $179.

Report from the Hiking Group:Our next hike will be in Feb., and will have a bit of a twist - Chattanooga Aquarium - come and practice the skills you all learned in Bill's class. Join us in an underwater adventure with beautiful exhibits and fishy friends! The Best of Photography and Film from the George Eastman House CollectionFrist Center for the Visual ArtsOctober 10, 2008–January 25, 2009

Featuring masterpieces of photography and film from throughout his-tory, this exhibition includes such iconic works as Mathew Brady’s por-trait of Abraham Lincoln, Ansel Adams’s Moonrise, Hernandez, New Mexico; Edward Weston’s Pepper No. 30; and Alfred Stieglitz’s The Steerage. The exhibition also presents various versions of famous pho-tographs, such as Lewis Hine’s Power House Mechanic, and Dorothea Lange’s Migrant Mother, which together provide insight into the artists’ creative processes. Films represented in the exhibition include The Phantom of the Opera, Peter Pan and The Lost World.

The Best of Photography and Film from the George Eastman House Col-lection was organized by the George Eastman House International Mu-seum of Photography and Film.

Chromatics Show: 20 works by Nashville Creatives

Opening reception January 22, 6-8 PM

Club member Rusty Bright has an image in ths showof Nashville Creatives working in and around the city by day while moonlighting as photographers, painters, book-makers, and sculptors.

Nancy Hellebrand: Earth, Air and WaterThru March 14 at the Parthenon

Twenty-three photographs by Hellebrand will be on view. Admission is charged: $5 for adults, $2.50 for 62+ and children 4-17, children 3 and under are free.
