Dear friends,
We have completed one more year of our journey together for a better and equal life to the
differently abled. It is a pleasure again to present before you the gist of our initiatives,
programs and projects for the year ended on 31st March 2016 along with audited financials.
It is heartening to note that attitudes and approaches towards the people with disabilities are
changing, slowly but definitely. All the stakeholders including the State and Judiciary are
waking up to the challenges and have shown a purpose in meeting these challenges.
At NASEOH we have realized that there is a urgent need to build the capacities of the
differently abled aspiring to be employed on equal terms to match the recruiting standards of
willing employers in the private sector. We have started networking and partnering with
professional training outfits to address these challenges.
Leveraging on the success we have experienced in the area of community based rehabilitation
efforts in rural Maharashtra, we intend to enhance this program module to another Tehsil –
Pathardi in Ahmadnagar district in the coming year.
On a sad note, death snatched away our Vice-President Mrs. Keti Mehta and we will miss her
constant counsel of highest order in our governance; pray for the eternal peace of the departed
soul.
This journey has always been possible with unstinted support I have received from my entire
team of Office Bearers, Members of the Governing Council, Volunteers, well-wishers and the
staff. We remain grateful to each and everyone who have walked with us in this journey,
encouraging and supporting us all through and I expect similar participation in our march
forward.
Thank you.

a very poor family and lives at Panvel Taluka of Raigad district and suffers from (L) Infantile

hope and renewed enthusiasm of a better future.

Being a physiotherapist and part of NASEOH, it’s a teamwork for the betterment of the
beneficiaries. We provide quality services with most modern and advanced equipments.
Individual treatment and exercise sessions are carried out for both in patient and OPD basis.

A Volunteer Speaks :
18
“ With the grace of the Lord and the blessings of my own Gurus I have been associated with
Naseoh after I quit my job as a software consultant with a middle sized company.
At Naseoh I found the right environment to express my teaching skills. I have thoroughly
enjoyed teaching the students whenever possible. I must confess due to certain domestic
situations I have not been very committed recently...
I do not know whether the organization has benefited from my services but I have grown as an
individual learning so many things from the students. The part I enjoyed was I realised that
language is not of great significance when you have the will to communicate. The first batch
that I took had almost 6 to 8 hearing impaired students. They were just too intelligent and
taught me the sign language. It was a great learning process for me. I also improved my
marathi speaking abilities and learnt to explain technical terms in Marathi.
Last but not the least when I associate myself with these students the feeling which remains
with me is how much I have to thank God for all abilities He has bestowed me with and not to
complain for anything .
The last batch however I found that there were students with learning disabilities due to which I
felt the course did not give the desired result to many of the students.
I would request the panel to keep this in mind and choose those candidates with physical
disabilities for the computer department as it requires a certain amount of logical thinking.
As an organization NASEOH has been open to all our suggestions and always made us feel
welcome…
Thank you for the opportunity provided by you . – Brindha Karthik “
The following representative case studies reflect the real impact of this core intervention in
giving direction and meaning to differently abled youth to move ahead in their lives.

Mr. Javwad Ahmad Khan
“This is the story of Mr. Javwad Ahmad Khan. He successfully completed MS Office Computer
Course at NASEOH with a first class.
Javwad hails from the small town of Maurawan, Unnao Dt., Uttar Pradesh in North India. Born
on 10.10.1988, as the sixth child of a poor farmer, Javwad has an elder brother, who is also a
farmer; four elder sisters, who are all married and settled; and four younger siblings – a brother
and three sisters, all students. Despite the poor background, his parents have ensured that all
the children are well educated.
Javwad suffered a polio attack when he was barely one year old. Till the age of twelve, he
could neither stand nor walk. The parents brought him to Mumbai to undergo surgery at this
point. After a prolonged treatment, Javwad began to walk – despite a limp – to the joy of his
whole family.
He finished schooling from Maulana Hasrat Mohani School and Junior College from KNPN
Inter College in Maurawan. Later, he did his B.A. Political Science from Kanpur University. All
his education was in Hindi medium. It was while looking for a job in Mumbai, did Javwad
20
realise the need for computer education. No one was ready to give him work despite his being
a graduate, unless he knew how to operate a computer.
That’s how he got to study MS Office at NASEOH. While here, he had applied to NASEOH to
be provided free lunch as he couldn’t afford to pay for his own. He also completed the course
successfully in the first attempt itself. With the help of some of the employees of NASEOH,
Javwad found a job at a restaurant in Govandi, doing the billing. He worked there for one and a
half years for a salary of Rs. 5000. The hardworking Javwad didn’t mind the long hours and
seven-day job. But what irked was that he couldn’t get leave even during festivals. He had to
slog all 365 days in a year. Even taking one day’s leave cost him a salary cut. Then there was
the issue of returning home late at night. Hooligans used to get into the train compartment for
the disabled and create trouble. Javwad was in fear every evening till he reached home.
Luckily for him, Javwad managed to get a job at a transport company at Masjid Bunder,
because of his computer skills. He prefers the timings here while he gets Sundays off. The
company also provides him with a railway pass from Wadala to Masjid Bunder and back.
Javwad lives in Antop Hill, Wadala, along with four other friends. Together, they pay a rent of
Rs. 4000. Electricity bill, water bill, provisions and other personal expenses come to Rs. 4500
for Javwad. He is still able to send some money back home on a monthly basis.
Even while Javwad’s disability is only physical, many times, employers tend to treat such
people with disrespect, putting pressure on them. He faced many such issues during his job at
the restaurant.
Javwad is happy that he is treated with respect by his present transport company employers
and hopes to do very well here.
Javwad is truly grateful to NASEOH, not just for giving him computer knowledge, but also the
mental support he needed to land a job. Even today, NASEOH and it’s employees are a part of
his support system.”

Kalpesh Krishnaji Bangar
“Kalpesh was born on August 14, 1993 and he suffers from 100% hearing loss and also has
trouble speaking. Despite his disability, Kalpesh managed to complete studies till Std. IX. After
that, he decided to get vocational training at the Tailoring Unit in NASEOH. This is where he
learned cutting and stitching of shirts as well as making jute purses, bags and belts.
After successfully completing this six-month certified course, Kalpesh managed to secure a job
at an industrial unit in Andheri where he does what he’s good at – cutting and stitching jute
bags. Kalpesh is happy to earn a salary of Rs. 8,000 per month. He lives along with his
policeman father, housewife mother and two brothers in Ghatkopar.
Kalpesh is happy with his job and feels grateful to NASEOH for training him for it and helping
him get the job via their placement cell. “
We acknowledge the substantial financial support received from Bank of America and
S.H.Kelkar & Co. Ltd. (KEVA) with deep gratitude, which helped us to strengthen and improve
the quality of intervention of Vocational Capacity Building of disabled youth.
EMPLOYMENT AND INCOME GENERATION SUPPORT

a) Open Employment: The efforts to scale up the open employment in the private sector continued with sustained
focus through the year. The creation of interactive platforms and opportunities to bring the job
aspirants and prospective employers was intensified. A large scale job fair was organized in
December 2015 where around 800 job aspirants across disabilities and 35 employers came
face to face which resulted in actual employment to more than 152 persons.

Perhaps the following stories explain this effort more clearly:
Nazim Abdul Majid Dhenkar
“My name is Nazim Abdul Majid Dhenkar. I belong to Khed in Ratnagiri district. I have been
physically disabled (Cerebral Palsy - 60%) since birth; I was unable to get polio doses when I
24
was young. Currently my age is 25 yrs and I am under medications. Two years ago I stopped
taking medicine prescribed by doctor due to which problem aggravated and my body started
shivering all the time. After taking medicines again the problem has reduced to a certain
extent. I am a graduate in B.A and also have done my post graduation. I was successfully able
to complete my education last year with full support from my family.
I have 3 siblings – 2 brothers and 1 sister. My sister is also physically disabled as she has
difficulties in movement. Out of my brothers one of them has physical disability as well. My
younger brother is a civil engineer in a company. My family has been extremely supportive
through all the difficulties which I have faced in life.
I got an opportunity to appear for an interview during Job Fair, 2015 organized by NASEOH.
Unfortunately I didn’t got shortlisted. After the Job Fair I have been in touch with Mr.
Mahammadhusen, Placement Officer for further job openings. He guided me all the times and
then I had appeared for the Customer Service Representative post at Euroable, Chembur and
got selected. Now I have completed 2 months training and attending inbound calls. I have
enrolled for a typing course and whenever I faced any difficulty my team leader is there to
support and help me out. I managed to stay at Community dormitory at Sandhurst Road in
Mumbai. I am deeply grateful for the support provided by NASEOH. “
Archana Gaikwad
“Born on March 17, 1979, Archana Gaikwad hails from a poor family of seven members
including herself. Her father had lost his job around twenty-five years back and never went to
25
work after that. Her mother works as a maid in a few houses and has single-handedly provided
for Archana and her three siblings. Her elder brother has completed his graduation and is in
service while her younger brother has given his Std. XII exams and is awaiting results. A
younger sister has completed Std. X and is at home nowadays. The seven of them live in
Siddharth Colony, Chembur.
Archana is a victim of polio and her mother discovered this only when she began to walk.
Though Archana cannot recall the exact experience, it was her mother who gave her the
requisite treatment to help her improve her walk.
Archana came to train at NASEOH for MS Office, BPO Training and Typing I 2005-06. She
succeeded in all the above courses and got a job with Reliance Customer Care BPO through
NASEOH’s placement cell. She worked at Airoli from 7 am to 5.30 pm for a monthly salary of
Rs. 7,000. She also managed to make some extra cash doing overtime.
Archana quit her job after a year and a half and went back to do a Para Professional course
from St. Pius College in Goregaon. Her classes were from 3-6 pm on Saturdays and 8 am-6
pm on Sundays. After a six-month certification course, Archana was selected to work with the
BMC, for social work in Chembur, doing counseling.
Monday, Tuesday & Thursday: She works form the Chembur M(W) ward of BMC
Wednesday & Friday: She meets the poor people in the different areas of Chembur and
keeps them informed about all the facilities BMC offers to them, free of cost. She also helps
bring this information to the handicapped. After finding out their needs, she helps them co-
ordinate with the right departments and ensures that the facilities actually reach the public.
Saturday: This day is set aside for paperwork and filing.
Earning a salary of Rs. 14,000 per month, Archana is very happy that she’s able to help all
those she is able to, while leading a respectable life, despite her disability.
She’s also extremely grateful to the staff at NASEOH for all their help and support. “

Mumbai continued. The vulnerable operators were supported to strengthen their income
generation capabilities through provision for replacement of their dilapidated structures and the
seed money to enhance their product range.
