ZONE CRICKET TRIALSOn Tuesday the NPS Boys Cricket team played their first round of the PSSA Knockout against Wee Waa Public School. Our boys lost the toss and were sent in to bat. It was a tough day at the crease for NPS only scoring 55 runs but a solid effort to stabilise the middle order by Jacob Sampson allowed us to see out 25 overs. George Barton was the strike bowler for Narrabri picking up the only two wickets for the NPS squad. The match was all over after only 12 overs with Wee Waa reaching the target with only the two wickets lost. The Narrabri team are to be congratulated on the way they played and carried themselves on the day, displaying our Core Values proudly and showing sportsmanship even in defeat.

THE LIBRARY CORNERLast week we began a new roster of Year 6 Library Leaders. The students are all very keen and responsible. We appreciate them being willing to help keep our library tidy and assist students during Play 2.Every student has the chance to borrow a book and we encourage them to do so. We have plenty of new books coming in to our library and they can be found on a shelf near the front counter. Students are welcome to come and have a browse in their library time or Play 2 to see if there’s anything that tickles their fancy. We look forward to welcoming families into the library on Friday, 20th March for our Book Fair and launch of our Star Reading Program. Please come along, have a read with your child and a browse of our big range of books.Did you know that reading aloud to your child lets them experience the joy of story, models fluent reading, helps expand their vocabulary, exposes children to new authors, texts and genres, builds awareness and empathy and improves children’s long term reading success? Even our older children still love being read to!

“Reading should not be presented to children as a chore, a duty. It should be offered as a gift.” —Kate DiCamillo
