NAPLAN Measuring student progress is an important aspect of teaching and one tool of measurement comes via the recently released NAPLAN data. I am delighted to report there has been some excellent performances by our students with results reflecting a strong commitment to school and to learning. Growth in learning between Year 3 and 5 continues to be strong - there has been an increase in the number of students achieving in the top two NAPLAN bands. Overall, the results confirm a significant progression towards achieving the goals as outlined in the school plan. Students who sat the NAPLAN assessments in Years 3 and 5 will take their results home on Wednesday. If you wish to discuss your child’s results please contact the class teacher (via a brief note or a call to the school office) to arrange a time for an interview. Australia! Story, Country is highlighted through the 2016 shortlisted books. Iron man, Spiderman and many other colourful characters visited the school today as part of our Book Week celebration. The school was alive with a range of characters from many wonderful books, from Harry Potter to Where’s Wally. Of course, today was character dress up day for K-6 students and staff. It is certainly a great way to bring reading to life. We thank librarian, Mrs Beattie who has kindly put the week of special activities together. Tell Them From Me - Student Survey This term, Moree Public School is again taking part in the Tell Them From Me student, teacher and parent survey. The survey will provide us with valuable feedback on what our school community thinks about school life, how engaged they are with school and the different ways that teachers interact with them. This information will support the school in improving student wellbeing practices. The survey typically takes 30 minutes or less to complete and will be administered by the school during normal school hours. Your child will not take part if either you or your child so chooses. If you do not want your child to take part in the survey, please contact the school office. Tuesday, 23 rd August 2016

Tell Them From Me Parent Survey is designed to help our school understand parent and carer perspectives on their child’s experience at school. This valuable feedback will help our school make practical improvements. The survey is conducted entirely online at home or on public computers. This year it can also be done on your smartphone. The survey will typically take 15 minutes or less to complete and is completely confidential. Should you wish to complete the survey please contact the school office for a username and password - available from next Monday. Dance Festival accolades to our students who performed at the recent New England dance festival. The feedback I have received has been tremendous, highlighting their quality performance on the big stage of the Tamworth Regional Entertainment Centre. Presenting in eye-catching costumes, MPS students looked spectacular with their highly professional choreography. We were also very delighted to hear positive comments about the excellent behaviour of children over the two days. Well done, students and thank you to Miss March, Mrs Ross and Miss Carlin for preparing and escorting the students. Father’s Day Stall Our Father’s Day stall will be held on Thursday 1st September. There will be some great gifts available for purchase so children will have the opportunity to spoil their dads and granddads. Each class will be taken to the stall during the morning session. Thank you in advance to Mrs Humphries and Mrs Miller for coordinating the gifts and to all the mums who will work on the stall. Jump Rope for Heart Our students have certainly enjoyed participating in Jump Rope for Heart this year. Jump Rope for Heart program raises much needed funds for research to help the fight against heart disease and stroke. Having joined some of our students skipping in the playground last week I can say without hesitation that it is hard work! Our thanks go to Miss Larken, Miss Rigby and Miss Jones for coordinating the events.

Year 6 Excursion I was delighted to be able to greet the Year 6 students as they returned from their excursion to Canberra and the snow. While they were a little weary after the long trip they spoke excitedly about the many activities they participated in. It was clearly an enjoyable and educational experience for them. For many, this would have been their first trip to the snow. Special thanks are extended to the parents who assisted on the excursion Mr Jennings and Mrs Tighe and also to the teachers, Mr McDonald (organiser), Miss Burey and Mrs Hosegood. Australian Capital Territory … Students from our school have recently undertaken, an education tour of the national capital. Students were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia's history, culture, heritage and democracy.

The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government is contributing funding of $30 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.

Kindergarten enrolments 2017 Parents and community members are reminded that Moree Public School is currently accepting Kindergarten enrolments for 2017. If you have a child who turns five (5) before 31st July 2017, you are urged to complete an enrolment form and return it to the front office, accompanied by a copy of your child’s birth certificate and confirmation of residency. It is important to complete these forms early as we now commence preparations for 2017. Mr Adrian King

4. DANCING, DANCING, DANCING … In true MPS style, 30 students represented themselves and their school with pride during the New England Dance Festival on 10th & 11th August. The junior dance group and the year 5 members of the senior dance group performed beautifully to packed audiences during the Wednesday evening performance and the Thursday morning matinees. The junior dance number was titled, Float and the organisers particularly congratulated them on their wonderful poise on stage.

The year 5 dancers performed to an original song composed by Studio Time called, What Life is About.

A number of people, particularly the motel manager, made comments about how well the students conducted themselves and how polite and considerate they were at all times.

Feedback to be proud of dancers, well done!

A special thank you to Mrs Ross & Miss March who spent many hours preparing choreography, practices, costumes, make-up and hair styles. Thank you also to Mrs O’Dempsey who not only drove us safely to all our appointments, but doubled as an accomplished hair stylist!!

5. COFFS HARBOUR – Year 4

On the 3rd August, Year 4 students travelled to Coffs Harbour for the annual excursion. Despite the wet weather we enjoyed a number of fun-filled and educational activities. The first day involved an educational presentation at the Dorrigo Rainforest Centre followed by a visit to the Big Banana for some heart-pumping games of laser tag. That evening students played Kegal 9 pin bowling then had the opportunity for a hands on experience with a giant python and hungry crocodile during the reptile show. The fun continued on the second day with guided tours and shows at Dolphin Marine Magic, a special viewing of the new, Ice Age movie at Coffs Cinema, beach games and a test of skill at Ten Pin Bowling.

Friday started with a visit to the Butterfly Sanctuary where the students strolled amongst hundreds of live Australian butterflies. During the trip home, students were treated with a special visit to Ebor Falls. A big thankyou is extended to Miss Larken, Ms Kelleher and Mr French for their assistance throughout the excursion. Without their generous support the excursion wouldn’t be the success that it proved to be for the children of MPS. Mr Burgess
