Leiker Loot Assignment
You will need a ruler for this activity
Draw the following waves. FOR EACH ONE, LABEL THE CREST, TROUGH, WAVELENGTH, AMPLITUDE, AND
RESTING POSITION.
1. Draw a transverse wave with a wavelength of 3 cm and an amplitude of 2 cm.
2. Draw a transverse wave with a wavelength of 1 cm and an amplitude of 3 cm.
3. Draw a transverse wave with a wavelength of 6 cm and an amplitude of 1 cm.
4. Draw a transverse wave with a wavelength of 2 cm and an amplitude of 4 cm.
Circle the wave with the most energy
Put a star next to the wave with the lowest frequency
Put a smiley face next to the wave with the highest frequency
For each of the following terms, draw an example of this wave behavior OTHER THEN THE ONES WE DID IN CLASS. Include a DESCRIPTION as to what is happening in your picture.
DESCRIBE what each of the following terms mean in terms of absorbing, reflecting, and transmitting light AND provide FIVE examples of each.
Refraction: Diffraction:
Opaque Transparent
Translucent
Use the picture below:
What kind of transverse waves are these examples of? ________________________________
Which two waves have the lowest frequency? _______________________________________
Which two waves have the highest frequency? _______________________________________
DESCRIBE how an echo is like a reflection:
Draw arrows in the diagram to show how an echo works
Use the wave speed formula to complete the problems. Circle your answer and provide units.
A water wave has a frequency of 2 hertz and a wavelength of 5 meters. Calculate its speed.
A wave has a speed of 50 m/s and a frequency of 10 Hz. Calculate its wavelength.
A wave has a speed of 30 m/s and a wavelength of 3 meters. Calculate its frequency.
Next to each of the diagrams, state what type of mirror or lens each one is AND describe the type of image that would be seen if it was reflected/transmitted.
