As spring approaches and the golf clubs get polished, NAIFA-RI has many events/topics coming up.
YAT Networking EventJoin us on Thursday, March 30th for a Young Advisor Team (YAT) reception at Circe Restaurant & Bar, 50 Weybosset Street in Providence from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM. Along with your fellow agents, we also invited the Young Agents Committee of IIARI (Independent Insurance Agents of Rhode Island). Network, relax, and enjoy an evening with your peers. There is NO CHARGE to attend this event but a $5 donation at the door to benefit Project Undercover. This local non-profit provides diapers, socks, underwear and baby wipes to serve the approximately 20,000 Rhode Island children under age 7 living in poverty. For more information on Project Undercover, please visit www.projectundercover.org.
RI Professional DayThe Financial Planning Association of RI (FPA), RI Chapter of the Society of Financial Service Professionals (FSP) and the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors of RI (NAIFA) cordially invite you to the 2017 RI Professional Day scheduled for Thursday, April 27, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Warwick! The day is open to ALL professionals and affords an opportunity to secure up to 6 hours of CE and network throughout the day. The day includes Exhibitors as well as Continental Breakfast, Program Breaks, Lunch & Afternoon Reception.
Congressional ConferenceNAIFA holds its next Congressional Conference May 23-24, 2017 at National Harbor, Maryland, south of Washington, D.C. Just in the past four years, over three thousand NAIFA members from every corner of the country came to Washington and visited Capitol Hill to meet with lawmakers and advise them on how their decisions affect agents, brokers, and their clients. Keep in mind that over 75 mil-lion American families utilize the products and services we offer. If you would like to find out how you can help, please call the NAIFA-RI office.
Join one of the only life producer organizations committed to protecting your business and your clients’ business. Appointments will be set to meet with our federal congressional delegation on May 24. Go to naifa.org for more info!
Charitable Golf TournamentMark your calendars for Tuesday, June 6 for the 2017 NAIFA-RI Charitable Golf Tournament to be held at Alpine Country Club in Cranston. It’s a great excuse to get out of the office and network with peers while helping to raise money to support a Rhode Island-based charity. Official registration information and links will be coming out shortly!
NAIFA-RI will happily accept any door prize gifts to support the non-profit charity selected. Proceeds from the door prizes and various contests on the course will support the charity as well. If you are interested in sponsoring, please reach out to Mike Carano, the event chair, at [email protected].
Thanks In advance for your support!

Although there is not really an “off-season” for political involvement , the past six months were distinctively out of the ordinary. We have continued to meet with members of our congressional delegation and the leadership of the RI House and Senate on a regular basis.
These relationships allow us to build on past successes in providing insight to lawmakers on issues that are likely to affect our clients, industry, and practice. In personal meetings with public officials, we continue to convey NAIFA’s perspective and advocate for our community by providing them with literature and becoming a familiar, and trusted constituent resource.
Coming up in this legislative year, we expect proposals at the state level to address RI’s estate tax, tax relief on income from pensions and social security, and of course federal tax policy. All of these issues and more are on NAIFA’s radar. Implementation of the fiduciary rule looks like it will be delayed, but it is officially “on the books” – stay tuned by visiting NAIFA’s Website (www.naifa.org) for updates.
One thing that our association unvariably needs is your financial support through IFAPAC contributions.
Thank you to those who are already contributing and please spread the word! Every amount helps! Please call or email [email protected] for details on how to become a contributing member or to learn more about IFAPAC.
Finally, we have a call to our members! Please let us know at 401-732-2400 if you are on familiar terms with an elected official…this can be a respected advantage when connecting with legislators on issues key to our profession.
It is hard to believe that March is already here and that our “new congress” is hard at work. The GOP is already working on a replacement plan for the ACA and the US Labor Department has proposed postponing the implementation of its fiduciary rule from April to June. While we are running our practice every day, it is NAIFA that is working on our behalf making sure that the regulations that are important to us are “front and center” in congress. For instance, did you know they were involved in 1,612 different bills that were introduced during the “113th Congress”?
I do want to take time to thank our new members for the month of February. Peter Matteo, Caleb Neves and Dan Dalton all associated with Baystate Financial. It is wonderful to know that they feel as strongly as we do believing that this industry is worth fighting for!
If you are not a current member of IFAPAC, please consider joining today!
Sincerely,Janice A. Kaplan, IFAPAC Chair

2017 NAIFA Rhode Island AnniversariesCongratulations to NAIFA RI Members
The cornerstone of any viable organization is the members. Without NAIFA RI members we have no voice to encourage support or opposition to laws and regulations that
directly impact our livelihoods and the lives of our clients. We tip our hat to those who celebrated an anniversary last year.
