To ensure and enhance the quality of teachereducation, the HEC has constituted the

National Accreditation Council for TeacherEducation (NACTE) as an autonomousbody to accredit all teacher educationprograms offered in the public and privatesector institutions in the country.

To prepare the competent and dedicatedteachers and empower them to educate the

future generations, the fundamentalrequirements are very much available in theprofessional literature which include standardsof what a Teacher Education Program shouldbe and be able to produce.

NACTEis looking after the matter regardingthe accreditation of institutions their

departments, faculties ,disciplines by givingthem appropriate ratings and define theorganization's objectives, functions and dutiesto be performed.

All teacher education programmes beingoffered or to be initiated in future within the

jurisdiction of the Council will receiveaccreditation from the Council under thefollowing procedure: -

1: Any institution planning to offer a teachereducation course/programme may apply to

the Chairperson, NACTE.2: The application must contain/attachfollowing information:(a) Title of the course(b) Duration of the course(c) Level of the training(d) Minimum eligibility qualification etc

The scheme of studies i.e. course outlines withsuggested readings and credit hours for eachcourse.

(f) Staff with their qualifications (academic andprofessional)

(g) Books and journals available in the library(h) Other facilities available in the institution i.e.

laboratories, playgrounds, equipment, etc.(i) Buildings and infrastructure(j) Other programmes being run

1) All the existing teacher education degreeprogrammes shall be within the jurisdiction of theCouncil..

2) The accreditation will be for specific degreeprogrammes and not institutions.

3) Accreditation shall be mandatory for all relevantacademic programmes.

4) assist and advise teacher educationinstitutions in planning their programmes.

(5) support the intellectual development ofprospective teachers (students) interested inpursuing the teaching profession.

NACTE has developed National Standards forAccreditation of Teacher Education Programs.
